    The lobby is beautiful and impressive, though not functional from a library standpoint. It definitely works as a tourist attraction, and that can be beneficial to the surrounding businesses. I agree with the poster who mentioned that getting rid of the giant pearl would be better - when it’s lighted it’s distracting and incongruous, and when it’s not it still blocks light.
    The children’s area is so pretty, and well laid out to boot. I’d love to take my kids there! The stacks and periodical room seem pretty ordinary, but I really like how much natural light they have (though I hope they’ve coated the windows to avoid fading the books). All in all if this were my municipal library I’d be quite pleased with it.

    Всегда любила библиотеки открытого хранения и доступа. Зависала между стеллажами, прочитывая по диагонали кучу книг пока выбирала на почитать. Сейчас у нас в основном каталоги и предполагается, что ты уже знаешь, какая книга тебе нужна. Неудобно для запойного читателя.) Очень интересная библиотека, спасибо за экскурсию. У нас в Москве, на ВДНХ, в павильоне Атом, открыли пространство с библиотекой похожей на помещения в начале видео, местами для чтения - качелями, лежанками, креслами, скамейками - всяко-разно и пр. Одно плохо - народу очень много и шумновато.

    From your comments, I can see that you are also one. A very knowledgeable scholar. Because you don't understand the structure of China. China is indeed an one-party dictatorship. Do you know why China's modernization is progressing so fast? The first is the advantage of one-party dictatorship, and the second is that China has a very large population and a large labor force. If you don't play to your strengths in projects like infrastructure that require a large number of people. How to rehouse so many workers in China? Managing a country of 100 million people is not at all the same order of magnitude as managing a country of 1.4 billion people. It can be said that the socialist system was put forward by the Soviet Union, and China's socialism is socialism with its own characteristics. To put it bluntly, China's system is a structure in which capitalist system and socialist system coexist. There is no perfect system. Just like without a perfect person, everything has two sides, white and black, high and low. Just as we look at some injustices in society, so does the large population of China, there will be corruption and the dark side of society. There is an old Chinese saying: when the water is clear, there is no fish. I don't think Westerners understand this sentence either. In Chinese philosophy. The opposites of good and bad, black and white, corruption and clean government, and society certainly coexist, but to control this tipping point is what leaders should do.

    I wondered how practical library is it. Who the architects designed this?

    • @davidgmaloof
      @davidgmaloof 7 месяцев назад +2

      The library collection holds 1.2 million volumes, which is average for a municipal library, but nothing massive. To compare, the Shanghai Library holds 57 million volumes. This library design does not seem practical, but it is beautiful to look at.

    天津這座濱海圖書館設計前衛格局也十分宏偉,不過畢竟不是美術館,附帶的藝文空間展覽方式十分守舊,內容也非常保守而沒有活力,這和建築本體形成強烈對比。
