Elephant milk is on the bitter side, according to one research article. I can imagine that makes it less palatable, and humans tend to struggle more with digesting bitter food. That said, elephants aren’t milked for human consumption; it’s for orphaned elephants.

Unfortunately that is how most of these elephants are kept. It is cheaper to buy a 1 m chain than to build a corral.
