  • The Western Highway - Anthonys Cutting Realignment involved constructing a new 5km highway connection south of the existing route, from Melton West to east of Bacchus Marsh.
    Eon-FX was engaged with three cameras to cover construction works over the two year period. This is the presentation video result.

      Watch the video more carefully... They built a ramp to reach higher ground, and in that ramp they left the hole for a road underneath it. Obviously no government is so stupid that they are going to create a hole to just for the sake of building a bridge. So it's a smartassy nonsense comment.

      Two main reasons:
      The soil on top will have vegetation and living things in it so needs to be replaced.
      Also loads from the traffic will need need to be disturbed into the ground. Therefore, certain materials with certain characteristics of strength and drainage will layered and compacted. This is called base course and and sub-base course.
      So if you would just place asphalt on the ground alone the weaker parts of the soil will settle and dip, causing cracking in the asphalt.

    Interesting. I've been driving on that road to Ballarat and saw three major changes, the building of the freeway in the early 80's, the expansion and widening of the freeway in the early 90's and now this bridge. I need to see it to get a glimpse of my days changed forever. I hope the bridge ends aren't as bumpy as the other bridges around Melton and Bacchus Marsh. Terrible to go over these bridges, with some of them being sunk to almost 3 inches and when driving over the bridge your car front end will be wrecked. I advise anyone who goes over these faulty bridges and have false teeth, to add extra glue because a sudden impact can make you accidentally swallow them, trust me. The bridges and road surface aren't exactly level and an impact can actually cause neck whiplash, damage car suspension or dislodge the front part of cars, wheels, ball joints, windscreen seals, etc.

      @pranavnaxane2252 4 года назад

      What's that?

    • @Wardell43
      @Wardell43 4 года назад

      @@pranavnaxane2252 Generally it's a steel plate roughly 3 x 3(1 meter x 1 meter) or so with a screw on adapter welded to the center to hold a section of 4 inch (100 mm) pipe.
      First off preliminary survey gathers the strata data to determine the foundation for the fill.
      As construction has begun, you place fabric like you see at 0:50 in the video than place 2 or more or whatever the survey data recommends of the steel plate on the fabric.
      So you get the elevation of the plate and screw in the first pipe section and get that elevation.
      Then as you add soil to the fill, you add a section of the pipe as needed until you get to the top of the fill, getting the elevation of each joint of pipe.
      The original survey data will recommend a time period or if you should add extra fill(surcharge) to assure that the weight of the fill has settled.
      I brought this up because of the existing water hazard
      My first bridge as part of the site survey team, didn't have the recommendations, so the contractor built the fill up (Over an existing road) and as we got near the top we noticed all of the surrounding trees were leaning and found our concrete survey monuments had moved roughly 10 feet or so. and the fencing was distorted from moving.
      So, Geo came back out and rebored and determined we needed to take the fill back down and put in Settlement gauges and build up the fill with a 10 foot surcharge and let it sit for roughly 3 months then check the elevation.
      After the bridge was opened the end bent still settled roughly 10 inches and caused a slight thump in the middle of the bridge. 30 years later they got rid of the thump.
      That was back in 1983.

    Why don't just build a bridge from the lowest point to the highest point?
    Make two mountains and build a bridge between them for what?

      Old highway was steep and twisty - lots of accidents - mostly trucks. It was long overdue when built.

    A complete non-sequitor 12 years later: All of that heavy equipment is diesel powered. It will never ever ever be battery electric. THat is completely impractical for manchinery of this size. For several reasons.

    So, they just wasted money putting in a bridge where a bridge wasn’t needed.

    Cada vídeo deste que eu vejo aumenta o asco que sinto dos administradores públicos do Brasil.
    Pela estratosférica carga tributária extorquida dos brasileiros, nossa infraestrutura deveria ser, isso mesmo apenas ser, mas não é novidade que nesta bosta de país não é.
    Brasil tem a mesma infraestrutura de quando nosso principal meio de locomoção eram as carroças.
    Administradores desgraçados, não fazem e quando o fazem 90% do dinheiro é desviado.
    É para ter nojo desta merda toda ou não?
