    My aunt had her soul towed cuz she hit a viscous pot hole and the left rear wheel keeps locking up. The tow truck driver said that he thought the caliper locked up but when i took the caliper off and spun the hub, it was making a god awful noise and was still wanting to lock up. But after watching this video, it looks like this is exactly what is doing. Thanks for the video!!!

    Great video, thanks. A thought for why it started binding up, the old rotor Inner circumference was worn a little bit over time. The new ones had more meat (material) on them. Just a thought.

    Thanks I was looking for a good video on this. My wife has a 2013 soul and the E brake barely grabs so now I know how to adjust the pads back out and the pull handle!! Appreciate you!

    On mine, the adjuster on the left hand side of the vehicle had a left hand thread and vice-versa. I guess so that pushing down on it thru that access hole from either side will back the shoes off so you can release the drum.

    Just what I needed! I’m doing the brake pads and couldn’t even get the rotor off with all the drag! Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for the video. I had to have the E-brake pads replaced (after 9 years, so I'm not complaining). But when I got the car back, the brake handle needed to be tightened up. This video showed me the place to do that. Thanks!

    just so you know: i believe on the parking brake there is a limit on travel it must past. that is why you would adjust tension on that cable. now on a hand pull parking brake lever it would be 7 clicks on most cars. on a foot lever is ??? changes from cars to trucks but about 5 inch's down ... check with the dealer just call them ask for service dept. now on the rear parking brakes you should service them at least... that means remove them and grease up that backing plate where the metal rubs on the shoes and makes a wear mark, it will slow down the release movement of the parking brake shoes to fully retrack back to the resting place and can rub on the rotor hat that is what it is called that brake rotor with that built in parking brake area for the shoes to rub on. it is called a ROTOR HAT... anyway i replace these all the time on diesel trucks they sometimes forget to release the parking brake and smoke the parking shoes the diesel has so much power they never feel the drag of the brakes.., now these shoes on cars are very thin and it is normal for this... it is just for holding a car not using it to stop a car so they are thin...

    Very useful. Linked to this video in another video that recommended grinding the pad hardware down. Sure that guy will be surprised.

    Yep had a similar experience doing discs and pads on my Optima rear disc and was painting the calipers. Getting them off for me was a nightmare need to finish the other side tmoz

    So once you have each side adjusted just up to where the rotor turns without dragging, does the nut at cables at council handle base get adjusted then or befor you adjust the E brake shoes at the wheel? No flamming hear and thnx in advance.

    Putting on new rotors, the inside diameter is smaller due to wear. So the new rotor will drag because the shoes have adjusted out.

    Were you good to go after this? I just watched a few videos with soul brake jobs and one is saying you need to grind the outer edges of the new pads so they float within the caliper. If not, they bind up on the rotor.

    • @RicochetJP
      @RicochetJP  4 года назад

      No grinding needed - everything has been working fine with these parts since I did this work.

    Everytime you use the park brake it turns that star wheel adjuster just like back in the days of rear drums i assume. So im guessing a common problem is the fact that it gets adjusted too much and causes the shoes to make constant contact with the drum. Doesnt make sense tho that an auto adjust would b there due to the fact that the primary brakes there are discs. Anyway i got a job for that tomorrow on my bosses gfs soul. Wish me luck.

    Similar mechanism to the E46 BMW (late 90s/2000s). With the BMW the adjustment screw is accessible through one of the wheel bolt holes. You can adjust it without removing the wheel simply by removing one bolt and rotating the wheel until it lines up with the adjuster. On the Kia I can clearly see that feature is not present :-)

    I thought adjustment was at starwheel. Didnt know you had to loosen up the cables. ? That dont look right.

    • @RicochetJP
      @RicochetJP  3 года назад

      It is at the starwheel. Cable adjustment is for dialing in the parking brake handle action.
