With Reaper synch always works. Not just in bank. This is the first video I have seen that discusses the calibration of the meter plug in - that can be very important - props to you. Also nice for you to discuss the difference between the DAW and plug in layers.
I have the full SSL suite - SSL UF8, UF1, UC1 & SSL 12 - if I was to buy any of these on their own I would opt for the UC1 to control the channel strips. The UF1 is used for transport and meter monitoring only in my system.
Just to add to your remark on the flashy lights and fader movement at start up: some time ago I asked SSL's customer service if I can turn it off as it can get a little annoying over time. As it turns out, it is a power on self test, and required for proper calibration. So, not a gimmick after all...
You might consider getting a UC1 for control of the channel strips and bus compressor. It works very well. Nice to have one to one knob use. The whole point of the UC1 is to control the channel strips and bus compressor.
@@teashea1 yes I can imagine that. But I’m not really using those SSL channel strips on every channel and the remaining room on my desk is too limited really.
Whoah!!! I never got to see this how you’re showing it….this thing actually looks high powered and very surgical! Hey have you tried using the God Particle at all? It honestly changed the game for me…..not that you need it for your mixes, your mixes sound great….but even me, I e been mixing since 1998 but have never been able to achieve mastering without distortion above maybe -10 LUFs…..the first mix I did with the God Particle helped me to get to -6.4 LUFs….i still had to do some tweaking as always but it was almost like I could tell I had that extra push with that plug.
Thank you! And yes I did try the God Particle a while back. Was not immediately convinced but I also did not mix into it. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/o5vOiWeGSps/видео.html
i have the uf1 with cubase. i really would like to get a uc1 or uf8, but unless they get a new workaround to make the controllers follow the selected channel, i'm not spending another dime on these. if they can make the channel follow on the plugin mixer layer, they should be able to make it behave the same on the cubase layer via their ssl 360 link plugin.
Apparently it’s a limitation with the Mackie protocol, Cubase and many other DAWs. There’s a link to that SSL webpage on my original video about the UF1.
@@LanewoodStudios thanks. yeah i know, but they obviously are able to receive the channelinfo from the link-plugin while on the plug-in layer. i don't see why they can't make that info receivable on their DAW layer. switching to the plug in layer gets rid of all the macros, and i can't switch back and forth between layers everytime. if i work on a certain channel, and i need it louder or quieter, it's muscle memory to pull down the fader. doesn't help when it's constantly stuck in the wrong bank and you end up messing up the volume on a completely unrelated channel
it's very frustrating because their product excels at everything else and adds so much more functionality than other controllers. all means nothing when the basic function doesn't work how it should, and since 1.6, they've proven it could
@@marcuspetendi7758 I think there is a special 'trick' they can do in the plugin mixer layer. You are not actually switching between channels but between plugins. And then they link the channel fader (e.g.) to the plugin fader. You can also see that if you put two SSL plugins on the same channel. SSL then sees this as two channels in the mixer. Anyway, it would be great if they could make this work in the DAW layer of course but I wouldn't bet on it ;).
Hi Maarten, my shopimg cart at Thomann´s is filled with some SSL stuff, including the UF1 and th UC1. I´m coming from Steinberg´s CC121 (now broken) and also used the iCon QCoin pro since 2018. I think I can replace these 2 by the SSL controllers. Question: If I use your Thomann link will my whole shopping cart get you comission or only the UF1? I wouldn´t mind if the whole cart gives you comission!!! Just asking...😉. Oh, an by the way I had to search a few videos to catch your name. It´s nor in your channel description...
If you click any of my Thomann affiliate links and then order, anything you order shortly afterwards I will get a commission on. So thanks for that 😁. Yeah my name is very Dutch, hard to pronounce and write for non Dutch people so I do not use it a lot on the channel. It no secret either though. Thanks, Maarten 😉.
@@LanewoodStudios I corrected my comment with the right name 😉. Cool. So first I get my new studio desk, then I do the switch from PC to Mac, then I have to move Cubase and all my libraries to Mac. Wish me luck 😀

My man you should’ve been purchased the UC1 by now to go with your UF1. Even if you’re a minimalist, those 2 will fit perfectly on your desk. 🧐PLUS!…The UC1comes with (2) SSL Channel Strips, the SSL BUSS Compressor 2 and the 360 LINK to control all your 3rd party plug-ins from the UC1 controller itself. The cost of the plug-ins alone are more than the UC1 itself so in turn, it’s like getting the hardware for FREE! With those 2 pieces alone you got actual hands on Automation, EQ, Compressor, Gate, Expander, Metering, Buss Compressors, Transport Control and the ability to control your 3rd-party plug-ins (there’s no need to use your stock EQ or faders if you don’t want)… and don’t get me started on all the other extra features you get if you add a UF8 and SSL 12.🙄
