The $3300 'Mule-caster' seems to look and sound remarkably similar to a $1200 Fender Telecaster. The Mule-caster has an 8-months wait list, the Telecaster you can buy today. It seems you can't order a Mule-caster outside the States, not even Canada. Mule-casters played on RUclips seem to rely upon the particular amp being used. So, why is Tony getting so dang gooey-eyed about this lump of kitchen chopping board with a maple neck? If you think it's so good, I gotta bridge I wanna sell ya.

I love 'Sweet Child O Mine' and Slash's guitars a lot. BUT... Rhett Skull points out that there seems to be no modern-day Jimmy Page or Slash maestros playing Gibson Les Paul's or SG's, wowing the music scene with Gibson yumminess. Page, Slash and many others influenced entire generations of musicians to learn to play a Les Paul guitar. Martin's 'Dreadnought Story' documentary states that Martin's fortunes were revived in the mid 1990s by MTV's 'Eric Clapton Unplugged': people saw Clapton play and then ordered a Martin 000-28 in their droves. Rhett Skull is concerned that if there are no chart-topping young axe-men (or women) stars playing Les Paul's, influencing the next generation, then the future is problematic for a really great guitar. Apparently the same is not true with the Stratocaster which continues to be used by many prominent rock-star johnnies currently on the music scene, keeping Fender's order books full.

I have #266 in my lap right now, bought direct from Matt when he was at the Dallas guitar show, it’ll never leave me. I have had a ton of guitars that have passed through my hands, but the mule will always remain with me.

Yep. Love my Mule Resonator. And yes... best neck I've ever held. I want one of each model too, but since I could only afford one (at least so far) I figured the Resonator was the most versatile being able to play both electric and unplugged.

Hi Tony. I first heard about Mule from you. I think it was to do with the Mule bus. Really enjoyed hearing the Mule resonators. Do I want one: Yes. Have I cleared it with the wife yet: NO! I am starting over again with my guitar journey. Right now I have a Teton Dreadnought and a Recording King resonator. I like the sound of each, but love some of the guitars that you have highlightted on this channel. Keep up the great work of spreading the gift of guitars.

Hi Tony! I love your show, you always have such interesting and useful tips and topics as well as bringing light to gear I don't know about😍 Your video about how to play without a pick was the info I needed when I first started playing 4 years ago and was struggling, lol, so I owe you a lot!😍 I have a dozen acoustic guitars but I don't play with an amp, nor do I know how to play with a slide- so would a resonator be pointless for me, or can you play them unplugged? I think they sound so cool, but I don't know much about them😍💜 Love from Texas!💖

Hey Tony... Love the show, love the Mule! I have a Dobro DM33C and I really like it. I thought I loved it until I saw the Mule Mavis... I will be putting the Dobro up for sale (or not, depending on business😉). But I'm going to get on the waiting list for the Mavis this week. I discovered your show about three weeks ago and have been catching up from Season 1... while trying to stay current as well... I'm up to AT38 so far. I am one of the aging guitar players that has been playing for a while, but needs some direction, so I just became a member of TAC and jumped into GW as well. Next will be a guitarsinal shirt and photo. You Noah and Levi (not to mention the whole community) have reinspired me. Thanks for the good vibes😎

Love blues and swampy Americana. Resonators have always grabbed my ear, but I've never owned one. Always figured I'd pick up a National one day. Then, I saw and heard a Mule Mavis. And, after 8+ months on the waiting list, Matt and company are building my Mavis now. Can't wait to spend a lot of sweet time with her!! 🎸 🎶

Love the show. I hope one day to get a Mavis. They are great sounding guitars. I saw a great female guitarist a few days ago. I saw Gwenifer Raymond at the Ark in Ann Arbor on Sept 26. It was amazing how she captivated the audience, no backing band, no singing. Just her and her guitar. Great show.

I got one of these on order . . . hopefully its awesome . . . read on for my resonator experience. Got the brass tricone, prob go for bare or get gold color. Well good to know you like them. So my confidence level is growing 4 mule.
Import resos to me have that 80's / 90's import guitar feel . . . (today imports electrics and wooden acoustics are good as US made in some cases like Alvarez or Eastman, Fender Japan or Epiphone, PRS SE etc). Maybe they might be better in 10-20 years they'll get to the wood acoustic and electric bretheren level . ..
I have tried all the import ones . . . they either have tone or playability. The recording king tricone has the best tone but it playability, no go, it has a baseball neck that makes Les Paul baseball necks seem like stickball sticks. It has a wide a55 classical guitar neck. The first 5 frets are good but then by the body joint I'm looking at double pinky thickness height. 12 fret body join, all the neck needs for complete wonkeyness is a dang warp DRIVE. And yes I shaved the saddle down, its a classic case for neck reset (but the expert said the cost is worth more than I got it, which was new for 700 USD back in the day). The tone is that cream bell (its brass) that my multi-National friend says its close to his national. New RK's are smaller necks and better overall playwise but not the tone.
The gretsch honey dipper and bobtail are heavy V necks, but action is fender acoustic (getsch is pwned by Fender btw). Not the Fender electric that V's are luscious soft V glove that is found on Eric Johnson signature strats . . . but hard V (the final battle) that digs into my thumb and aches in the web of my hand . . .
THe bobtail (spider cone) tone is like a taylor, so I'm going to sell it, its heavy, and since its sounds like a sterile acoustic, might as well get a taylor or wooden acoustic as those are lighter.
The honey dipper has that delta and banjo tone, but its kinda tinny and teeth grating on the highs.
The republics are great, tricones. They are very playable. The brass one has the cream and bell ring, but its like a muffled version of my record king. They have standard 1.75 necks and good action. The guy that sells republic does a set up, so they are good .The brass was tuned out of the case. I have a steel tricone, and it has more of a sharper, tinny, treble tone than the brass one. But they are not close to the King of Tone (Recording King).
I haven't tried royall since they are perpetually out of stock and since I have a mule one the way, the mule will ahve to hold out until I can save up for another one (If I like it ) or go with National Style . . . My friend has that money is no problem thing that everyone and their mom wishes, so he has stable of nationals and mules, beards etc . . . and his mules are good . . . (beard and nationals are on pt too).

Mules….I’ve heard really good, and really not so good things. It all depends on the specific guitar you get, as with any guitar. No truss rod is bit concerning. I’ll be honest my buddy got a not so great one…just prob after prob….this is just a comment, I do think they are amazing, but everything in life has ups and downs…

Eh the whole biscuit/tricone resonator tone is not very versatile to me. Stick to your Beard square necks.
