As the owner of an AE86 here in Japan too (In my case a 3 Door Sprinter Trueno) and having experience dealing with Sri Lankan resellers like the ones it looks appearing in the video, I'm going to explain what happened with that auction and also give you some feedback about your car. (And maybe it will be helpful for other readers) First, congratulations Clemens. I'm glad to see, at least you have a USDM AE86 in your country so you know where to look. Second, regarding the auction, you got outbid by the Sellers, I checked that listing and there are many obvious accounts made only for inflating the Price, so when they see nobody else is bidding, they stop, and then they cancel the last bid from themselves, to charge you the maximum. Third. Regarding the feedback about your 2 Door Levin. It was manufactured in September 1984 in Toyota's Tahara plant, Aichi prefecture. It makes sense that the car was in Nagoya, so technically, it belongs to the middle period category, just in case you want to have a reference for fittings parts. And probably that's the original paint, keeping in mind the GT Apex interior. In any case, now your Levin and my Trueno are not that far away, so just in case you want to hang out someday, hit me up! Cheers!

Great story. Cant wait to see how it turns out. Reminds me of last year when I bought a Civic Shuttle (wagon) which was in a similar state. Unfortunately had to sell it but I had a lot of fun with it while I had it.
I see this car when this car on list. i didn't believe zenki ae86 was sold with 1000000yen. but it was real LOL You bought one of my dream car. I envy you and hope you enjoy drive your car.
Yeah buyers remorse is big with this one. ^^ But i don't blame you. I have it all the time. I look at the same item many days and really want it but the moment i actually purchase it buyers remorse sets in until you actually have it. Then it's fine again (most of the time). xD Congrats on owning this legendary car! Greetings from Germany :)
Awesome video! May I ask why you decided to move to Japan? I now study japanese since quite some time, and I want to move to Japan next year. I also like old vontage cars, I was repairing one too just some time ago. I am still a beginner though. :)
I came for work: I work in Automotive industry, and received a job offer in Japan. Before that, I never considered moving to Japan, so it was a pretty spontaneous decision. Initially, I always hoped to have an opportunity to go to China. Now, that we have settled in Japan, we actually like it a lot! If you speak Japanese fluently, that will be a great advantage - I am still learning. It is such an important door opener.
@@mertenbrauer5853 Not only in Japan. Wherever life carries you, it's important to learn the local language. Wishing you good progress with learning Japanese!
Love the video! It gives me motivation to work on my 86 project myself. If you want to get some of your money back out of the car, you could always sell that driver seat that doesn't fit you well. In the US, they are still quite expensive to purchase despite being used.

Actually, I haven't - I worked a lot on Nissan Sunnys (including body restoration), but on the AE86 I don't have super much experience. Learning by doing
Thank you. I was wondering which language the seller and his friends speak. He mentioned that he is from Pakistan, but Haryanvi is Northern India, right? He said he moved from Pakistan and started his car trading business in Japan.

Super cool car! Stuff in Japan seems like it rust similarly to where I live. Seems like it’s going from the inside out. Hopefully it’s not too bad in behind everything! So jealois

@@ogscran2920 To be very honest I am a software engineer, and I am super lucky to have a job at a Japanese company that pays a decent salary. Most jobs here in Japan (for both locals and foreigners) have rather low salaries, and the dream of an own AE86 is out of reach for many. Parking in the center wards of Tokyo easily exceeds 150 Euros a month, which is just ridiculously expensive. That was also another reason why we moved to Yokohama.

Tbh in Japan it is also not easy - I don't even have a proper workshop yet, and need to fix the car in front of my house. Hopefully, my neighbors will not hate me :)
Hi from Aus, if you solve the being tall + bride seat issue I’d love to hear about it. I’m 197cm and have bride seats in my AE86 and have the same problem, trying to think of a solution that doesn’t involve swapping the seats out.
I think I will just put the factory seat in. For the bucket seat, I think the only proper solution is to modify the seat rails so that they can slide further back.
That's not so easy in a foreign town where you don't know anyone and don't speak the local language fluently. It would have been much easier. In fact, the seller offered to lift it up with a forklift, but I thought that would do more harm than good.
