Horror movies to watch:💡 In The Tall Grass, The Green Inferno, The Ritual, Dreamcatcher, It Follows, Identity, Color out of Space, Underwater, Cloverfield Paradox, The Crazies, The Void, Identity, The Thing 2011
Finally, you guys are watching a true cult classic that actually flew under the radar. Slither is such an awesome horror/comedy. Gross, gory, funny, great characters and solid acting. The pacing is honestly the reason why this movie is so much fun to watch. Things just keep happening one after the other and it doesn't stop till the end. James Gunn's first film and my favourite.
@@ulyssesveracruz8343Not just that, but Rob Zombie is also the voice of the doctor Starla talks to about Grant. Think he also had a voice cameo in one of the first two Guardians, can be wrong
The actor who plays the mayor (that looks familiar) is the great Gregg Henry. He's a Gunn regular, plays Peter Quill's grandfather in Guardians. He also has a pivotal roll in Payback w/ Mel Gibson and is fantastic in "The Train Job" episode of Firefly...among several hundred of credits over the last 4+ decades.
I love the fact that Grant was actually not a bad guy. He didn't cheat on his wife, he didn't even treat her particularly badly. You go in expecting a horrible man, but... nope. And then aliens.
Yeah he wasn't that bad, just went after a 17 year old girl, quilted his wife because she wouldn't have sex with him and made out with and plan to have sex with another woman. But yeah... He wasn't that bad at all... 😊
It's been confirmed that this movie does in fact take place in the MCU. as the alien slugs can be seen in Guardians Of The Galaxy in The Collector's room, and among his artifacts is a large glass tank filled with the slugs
I like how people LOVE James Gunn, but yet they've never seen this before. I saw this way back before everyone's mouthwatering at the mere mention of James Gunn.
James Gunn is actually an avid animal lover. I think he understands how harmful animal abuse can be and thats why he shows it. He's expressed many times before how he loves all animals. Its conflicting for sure but the fact that he puts an emphasis on animals alone should show that he somewhat empathizes with them.
THIS MOVIE IS SUCH A JEWEL! never thought i'd see you guys reacting to it, you just made my day. Another fun fact: In the extras, when discussing the infamous Brenda scene, James Gunn was the one who rooted for her to be so...round, and said something like "there will be people who'll get it on with this" GREETINGS FROM BOLIVIA 🥰
I miss when Hollywood used to do creature movies they where all unique I’m such a huge fan of the predator and xenomorph alien there such iconic creations
Not to mention the actress who played Brenda, Brenda James didn’t read the full script of the movie and only auditioned and read her lines for her introduction scene (Brenda meeting Grant at the Bar) before James Gunn casted her. After she was cast, Brenda got the script of the film and wonder what becomes of her character while taking a flight to Los Angeles and when she learned that her character ends up becoming this giant alien breeder by Grant until she exploded and that she would be involved with prosthetics she started crying.
Fun Fact: This film nearly depleted America's silicone supply with all the props. Also, two things make this movie particularly unsettling for me: 1. It takes place in my home state. 2. Brenda's death is the stuff of nightmares and I still can't get it out of my head.
it wasnt americas silicone supply, it was the supply of the manufacturer they were using for the props but its still insane that they made an entire distributor run out of their product lol.
Both of the night of the living dead filming locations are within casual driving distance of my house. The 1990 version is like 30 miles and the house is still there supposedly
21:02 the old guy on the chair was Llyod Kauffman, the president of Troma entertainment, the group that James Gunn learned his trade from. they specialize in very low budget horror films, especially Toxic Crusader, which we saw a clip from earlier on.
Can't confirm, but pretty sure this was a love letter to David Cronenberg. _SO_ many shots are right from his films like the bathtub scene, which is totally from _Shivers_ .
I remember seeing They Came From Within (the alt name for Shivers) on Fox 16 in the mid 80s, when it showed movies like that...when it was a "young" station.
This is one of my favorite movies, and I did some random tweet about it first time I saw it like 2008-9 and James Gunn retweeted...I was blown away lol
Re: your question at 40:12 - I've always assumed it's because good thriller/horror directors know how to keep characters likeable and sympathetic in the midst of extreme/absurd circumstances (which is also key to good superhero/fantasy stories). And they also know how to handle tension, rhythm, and pacing (which is also key to staging good action/suspense scenes).
This movie does not get talked about often. It's one of James Gunn's best work in my opinion and when people talk about his past work for some reason this one never gets brought up as much. It's so good. It's weird and nasty. Perfect kind of creature feature.
Man, after seeing them watch this I’d LOVE to see them watch Splinter. Another CRIMINALLY underrated early 2000 horror film with an equally as dope premise as this. I loved that and this movie as a kid when I got into my scary movie phase 😭🙌
I remember being 14 watching this with my 5 year old sister… both of us holding flash lights wear bandanas about our mouths. Every sound we heard whether coming from in or out the house flash lights darting across the floor to see what it was.
I fell in love with this movie when it came out. I loved the soundtrack and it was such a joy to see the Old 97's reappear in the Guardians Christmas Special years later.
I was so glad when I discovered this movie years ago, it’s one of my favorite horror comedies of all time. The moment Brenda exploded, I totally lost my shit and couldn’t stop cackling. It’s pretty much a masterpiece.
I can also proudly PROUDLY say that I watched this in the theater (with about 3 other people in it). I had gotten a subscription to Fangoria Magazine for Christmas the previous year and they had been hyping up this movie for months. And because they knew the movie would flop, they loaded the DVD with the most bonus features I have ever seen. James Gunn knew this movie was destined for cult status, and in less than a year he was proven right. Shortly after this he wrote the dialogue for the video game Lollipop Chainsaw, because of course he did 😂
1. I love this movie! It was a random rental back in the day and I was truly impressed. 2. You two should definitely watch more horror/gross movies together. Hilarious reactions. 3. As a afro-latino living in the south.. I think you guys would actually enjoy it!

I never realized how much Rookers/Grant's fully morphed form is like Pretorius in From Beyond. It's got every 80's Lovecraftian horror in there, The Thing (There is even a character called MacCready!), the ending is THE SHUNT from Society.
