    Knife held up pretty good to the abuse. I like this 8cr13Mov steel! Seems to be very tough.

    Pretty amazing knife I bought a few days ago … now I saw your massive abuse test and I‘m even more impressed from this little, heavy gem!
    With its bulky and riveted handle and the very thick back of the blade (like „Flachstahl“) it always reminds me on a typical butcher’s knife 😂

    Love the torture tests on this channel. I always kina thought of these Ned Foss knives as a knock off of better more worthy knives for camp carry but I'm impressed by how long these can go before breaking, especially at the price point these knives are sold. Good heat treatment, wow. These last just as long as some of the name brand knifes do. I've seen a couple $150 Bushcraft knives break faster in some cases. Just proves you don't gain much by being a steel snob...

    A lot of Ned Foss knives are sold in the US. They're more expensive than the dirt cheap stainless steel knives, but they aren't that expensive. I've noticed the prices have been steadily increasing, perhaps because people realize they're pretty good knives. I have to admit, I was impressed at how well this knife held up, considering it's stainless steel and inexpensive.

    • @joex
      @joex  2 года назад +1

      i am not 100 % sure, but everything breaks eventually!!

    • @ingowalkerling5141
      @ingowalkerling5141 Год назад

      I think, it is a combination of fatigue fraction, acceleration and momentum. Regarding only one stroke on the edge, you get a torque which results of the distance from the point of mass inertness (not always the same as the point of mass), the mass of the knive and the accelerration of the knive. When you hit the target with the edge, the pressure is higher than if you use the spine. So there will a lot of energy be consumed to deform the target and the edge. With an hit on the spine the area is bigger, so the deformation and the consumed energy for this work less. The greater amount of the energy must be taken from the knife material and its structure.
      The geometry of the blade will affect this, too. The area-massmomentum (Flächenträgheitsmoment), which affects the resistance an object can perform is in the third power (h^3) by the hight of the blade. As I said earlier, the inertia-point of area is different, and so are the torques, which try to bend the blade.
      Another effect is surely the fatique of the material. The more stiffness an material has, the less it can consume impulses. This could result in more and bigger micro tension ruptures in the structure, which leads to a complete material failure.
