Are Windows XP and 7 Gold filled with viruses?

  • One of the most common questions I've seen on both of my Gold Windows videos is: do these contain viruses? I decided to attempt to answer that question in this video by performing a few scans with both Malwarebytes and Avast! Antivirus. While this might not be the industry standard method by any means, it does give us a good idea of how safe these operating systems are to actually use. As always, feedback and comments are appreciated, as I'd be interested in seeing what you guys have found in your own scans.

      It would probably still be better than vanilla Win10. On Windows 10, resolve all simply deletes the Windows folder to get rid of all Spyware.

      @@carlosdelucia3487 while i wouldn't consider windows 10 'bad', I certainly don't consider it an improvement over windows 7 in terms of design, usability and efficiency. That and useless features like cortana being installed and enabled by default doesn't help the experience. Not to mention windows update managed to completely brick a computer of mine and I had to load from a backup and disable the windows update service to prevent this from happening.

    I suggest you scan the ISO first with a strong AV, installing an AV within the installed questionable OS may compromise the AV and may not detect the malware integrated. talking from experience here.

      There have been a few reports of viruses (made credible with details) on some of the recent XP mods; these were system viruses, not due to mods, adware, or cracks. Reports were in comments on a private site where one generally doesn't get trolls or idiots.
      Hopefully this won't become a trend.

      I guess the two true benefits are having activated versions of XP & 7 along with additional 'Pro' programs (cracked) installed. as for the other factors like tweaks, icons and themes, they're more of novelty features since some people including me like a change in how it looks/runs. personally, I think XP Black Edition and Windows 7 lite are better options. :)

    I’m assuming that Chicken Invaders 2 came back as a false positive. I’ve had this happen in the past with a couple of games that I legitimately own on CD, like 4x4 Evolution. Both Malwarebytes and Avast list the game’s executable, 4x4.exe, as some sort of virus, when it definitely is not.

Only reason to pay for it is tech support so it's got all the extra features a traditional paid antivirus would have

    In the past I hated norton a lot due to it's previous versions were so laggy and made the entire PC a lot slower, but in like 2014 I got a really bad virus that prevented me from executing already installed EXEs with some random error. I tried like literally all major known antivirus brands and non of them helped me with the virus. When I was desperate because I had so much important data I installed norton as a joke to myself to feed my sense of irony and suddenly after installing norton internet security BAAM... the virus was not functional any longer, after a scan it was detected and infected files were "fixed". I continued living my life happily ever after haha. Ever since I don't use anything else rather than Norton.

  • @JessicaFEREM

    most of the time, virus scans pick up cracked games as malware or viruses, but most of the time, it's a non-issue. 90% of the time if an AV picks up a game, it's usually a false positive because of Anti-cheats or cracked games.
    still though, if you download something from a sketchy site, then you should at least check it with windows defender, if not something else.
    for 90% of people, Windows defender is all they'll ever need, if it's setup correctly, it can be fairly reliable. defender is fairly good at not detecting cracked software, but it does detect windows cracks for obvious reasons.

    • @ethanrushbrook3314
      @ethanrushbrook3314 3 года назад

      Or better yet, just don't download sketchy stuff. If you don't have that option then just run Windows through KVM on some Linux distro and throw it away when you're done with it.

    • @JessicaFEREM
      @JessicaFEREM 3 года назад

      @@ethanrushbrook3314 most of them aren't that sketchy. it's just that some antiviruses detect crack tools whether they're a virus or not.
      and i quit using Linux because it's simply more annoying than it's worth most of the time.
      also using sandboxie is also a much better idea because that doesn't require me to go through the many steps required to spin up a KVM along with getting new hardware, because I'm just playing games with a built in APU of my laptop.

    I wouldn't look too much into what the trolls say, it's common for uneducated computer users to think that everything has a virus or malware. Also I hate these anti-virus programs nowadays, they try to do too much. I mean since when have 'outdated' programs been an issue? Sometimes the latest version of a program is not the best version, there's a difference.

    when unetbootin is copying install files from LastXP v22 iso to the USB, my AVG scanner detects several Win32:Malware-gen in the main files, and quarantines them so I can't install LastXP unless I first disable the antivirus on my main computer that creates the bootable usb. I wonder if this is really malware I would not want, or is it called malware because the windows installation files are modified to work the way I would rather them work for this installation

    my friend if you want to see if the os have viruses change the avast antivirus( it is a very poor antivirus.... is not good at all... i now from my 20 years working in IT). use bitdefender or comodo or panda or kaspersky and scan in full mode not in quick. you should now that quick mode on all antivirus scan just the important files on os to see if they been corupted. today most of the viruses dont corupt the os they just corupt data on your pc (ransomewear for example ) and they generaly hide in windows temp file witch the quick scan dont check. i bet that if you scan in full mode with comodo or bitdefender or iven norton you will find a lot of viruses .......

    it's easy to play safe IF u dont let it get online...either play in an isolated virtual box or an old PC thats not on the network... then u will never have to worry.
    Buy a raspberry pi for surfing the web and transfer anything that needs to travel across.between.them.in a usb stick.
