Sanitarium is another underrated horror game. It was one of the best point and click adventure games, but was released at a time when the interest in that genre was diminishing.
When I was five, my parents got their first pc, then I asked my father if I can play a game on it, he said "sure". We went to the shop and I saw the picture, the hand, the orange clouds, I thought it's gonna be a fun game. I accidentally chose UNDYING. As soon as I launched this game that was the biggest mistake I've ever done in my life. I got to that moment when Aaron's ghost scares you. I was terrified, but at the same time I was obsessed with it, I didn't want to play it but I did. It was amazing! I'm 14 now, I got a gaming pc, I play all the new games, I completed Amnesia, Outlast, Fear, but Undying, there is something in this game that still makes me quit to my desktop, but as I quit I launch it... AGAIN!...

The second game was a huge disappointment though and I think really killed it. They should remake the first. I would probably cry and buy it for literally everyone I know if they made it with newer graphics
Seriously? Jurassic Park:The Game from Telltale? As much as i love everything about Jurassic Park,that game just sucked compared to Dino Crisis. Dino Crisis is classic with unique story,and great gameplay. Telltale is just boring point and click,in Dino Crisis you can actually control character. Dino Crisis is as good as Resident Evil.

Haunting Grounds is more of a spiritual Sucessor than a Spin Off. For one Capcom actually has all the rights to everything about Haunting Grounds. Heck the characters from teh game make a cameo appearance in Joe the Condor's ending from Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
It won't be forgotten if haters like you keep bringing it up in places where it isn't mentioned. You guys are the main reason that it still exists outside the realms of it's own fanbase.
Rezo Lution Haunting Ground is one of my all-time favorite games. I actually had to step away from it the first time I played because Debilitas' initial chase/hide scenes scared me so much.
Giovanni Pedroni I always got the good endings with Hewie. I know there were multiple endings for each scenario, and how you treated Hewie could change the outcome, but I never got those. Even if there were "rewards" i.e. unlockables from getting them. Hewie actually made me want an all white german shepherd, which I may or may not have wanted to name after him. x"D
Because this list is about "forgotten" games. Alone in the dark is still widely known and popular - even if almost nobody remembers the first 2 games, which were AWESOME at the time. :)

I actually won an english version of it on ebay for around $30 so I got to play it through once. Unfortunately I lent it to someone who then broke it -_- Dunno why I thought that would be a good idea.. It's pretty hard to get a hold of but I do recommend watching a let's play of it.

I remember playing Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks and i found out that it had the Suffering 2 demo..played it and i got creeped out xD sadly i never bought the full game :(

This is making me so nostalgic. I was a teen when all these games came out, and I played almost all of them. Believe me, the cheese factor of the voice/live acting was very much apparent at that time too, though we were still able to appreciate the advancements in tech that these games represented. And FMV combined with computer graphics made games extra spooky. Harvester really blew my mind at the time. Some other games in this same vein that I remember are Phantasmagoria, Tender Loving Care (TLC), and the original Alone in the Dark. Watch some Let's Plays if you get the chance.

Yeah, both Prison is Hell and Ties that Bind are awesome. In TTB, your powers when you transform get warped depending on alignment, which is also rather awesome
I didn't like the fact that DC2 went to pre-rendered backrounds instead of real-time 3D rendered environments that that first one had. Great game still though.
I enjoyed Dino Crisis 2 a lot, but it was mostly pure action. You even got rewarded some currency for killing stuff that you could spend on buying more weapons and ammo. Fun game, but Dino Crisis 1 was pure survival and horror. Never played DC3, and don't intend to start now. I REALLY want a remake of the firs two for PS4 and XBone, though.
The Suffering & it's sequel Ties That Bind are easily my favourite horror games. They introduced me to the whole morality choice of being good or evil in a game, not just the typical good guy hero & have been a huge influence on ideas for a graphc novel I'm (still after all these years) writing. The atmosphere, the monster designs & the back story of Torque was so captivating & compelling. Not to mention some great voice acting.
There's a spin off of Nocturne called The Blair Witch Project: Rustin Parr. Instead of Stranger, you play as Dr. Holliday and is sent to Burkitsville to deal with the things happening there. Same engine btw. And if you do get interested with Rustin Parr, you can try playing the other Blair Witch Project games, Coffin Rock and Elly Kedward.

dj games there's just something about being part demon running around killing them in gory horrible fashions, not to mention being a psycho that killed his wife while in beast mode that's just satisfying. Not to it's taking place in prison and you're killing them all in a prison. I've been to prison more than once, and met so many that could use a shotgun to the face.
I missed out on that game back in the day but I tried to play them on PC a while back and its like they're impossible to run on a modern PC, as in it just doesn't work. I was gutted because I'm mad about horror games and I heard The Suffering was a must see.

The thing is there was never really a video game version of The Omen. That's like saying Dead Rising is a ripoff of Dawn of the Dead, or that Contra's a ripoff of Commando. Not saying Lucius was a great game, but it practically relied on your knowledge of The Omen and its selling point was that you'd get to fill the little hellspawn's shoes.
Never heard about it. Looks like something that should be remastered. With nice graphics and slight upgrade without changing stuff if its good. Looks interesting.

Always happy to hear Nocturne mentioned. I have a copy of it I'm playing through right now. It's one of the best games of all time in my opinion. The opening video alone is magnificent, and the lighting effects were unlike anything before or for a long time afterwards. Even today dynamic shadows like what Nocturne had are rare. The voodoo god wasn't an enemy, though... you summon Baron Samedi at one point to raise a fellow Spookhouse agent from the dead.
No original Clock Tower? Well, it was only a Japanese release, but if I'm not mistaken you could play it as an extra on Clock Tower (2)? Speaking of point-and-click, how could they forget Phantasmagoria? Fairly similar to Harvester, though really more like it's cheesier, more comical cousin... but the death/gore scenes were sublime.
Especially the first Phantasmagoria was really good. I've been trying to find the the music for the starting screen ever since then! Really cool game. Harvester was awesome too!

Koudelka is one of the best survival horror games from the PS1 generation. Four disc story with some seriouly disturbing content for the time. it belongs on a top 10 list of survival horror genre defining games.
Eternal Darkness. It was the reason I ended my years-long ban on purchasing Nintendo things, and it was worth it. I can still hear the chanting... a marvelous horror game indeed. And although not strictly horror, System Shock 2 features some of the scariest and tensest moments in any game I've played.
I played the suffering when I was little .. well I tried to. Whenever I got to the part where he's locked in that room with the gas or whatever I got too anxious and quit. Lol
I was 8 and couldn't get enough of it. They really need to redo this game. The second one was so bad though that I don't think it's possible to come back
I wholeheartedly agree with Clive Barker's Undying. I'm one of the people that bought it when it was released and I thought it was one of the scariest games I played then. The atmosphere and the incredible story behind it all made it really awesome.

Darkseed I and II are definitely forgotten gems, HR Giger's artwork spewed into one mass horror puzzle game. It was breath taking at it's time.

I've always wanted to play that game. Unfortunately I never got the chance to. The price of it was insanely high.
I actually won an english version of it on ebay for around $30 so I got to play it through once. Unfortunately I lent it to someone who then broke it -_- Dunno why I thought that would be a good idea.. It's pretty hard to get a hold of but I do recommend watching a let's play of it.

This is making me so nostalgic. I was a teen when all these games came out, and I played almost all of them. Believe me, the cheese factor of the voice/live acting was very much apparent at that time too, though we were still able to appreciate the advancements in tech that these games represented. And FMV combined with computer graphics made games extra spooky. Harvester really blew my mind at the time. Some other games in this same vein that I remember are Phantasmagoria, Tender Loving Care (TLC), and the original Alone in the Dark. Watch some Let's Plays if you get the chance.
Rule Of Rose isn't forgotten just hellishly expensive at over $70 for the Japanese import of it or over $250 and up for the English version.
Or just use a pirated verison on a modded ps2
or a pc emu.

there is a very terrifying movie where a guys wife was brutuly murdered and left with his son. His son is kidnapped and has to travel very far to find him. He travels with a mentally disabled woman and are almost killed. they find his son in the end. This movie is.........Finding Nemo

Dino Crisis 2 was poorly received? I remember it being even better than the first one. Dino Crisis 3 did seem like trash though.

I didn't like the fact that DC2 went to pre-rendered backrounds instead of real-time 3D rendered environments that that first one had. Great game still though.
I enjoyed Dino Crisis 2 a lot, but it was mostly pure action. You even got rewarded some currency for killing stuff that you could spend on buying more weapons and ammo. Fun game, but Dino Crisis 1 was pure survival and horror. Never played DC3, and don't intend to start now. I REALLY want a remake of the firs two for PS4 and XBone, though.
I had much more fun with DC2 than 1.

The Suffering & it's sequel Ties That Bind are easily my favourite horror games. They introduced me to the whole morality choice of being good or evil in a game, not just the typical good guy hero & have been a huge influence on ideas for a graphc novel I'm (still after all these years) writing. The atmosphere, the monster designs & the back story of Torque was so captivating & compelling. Not to mention some great voice acting.
Harvester is somewhere between plain ridiculous and brilliant. I just can't decide.

There's a spin off of Nocturne called The Blair Witch Project: Rustin Parr. Instead of Stranger, you play as Dr. Holliday and is sent to Burkitsville to deal with the things happening there. Same engine btw. And if you do get interested with Rustin Parr, you can try playing the other Blair Witch Project games, Coffin Rock and Elly Kedward.

dj games there's just something about being part demon running around killing them in gory horrible fashions, not to mention being a psycho that killed his wife while in beast mode that's just satisfying. Not to it's taking place in prison and you're killing them all in a prison. I've been to prison more than once, and met so many that could use a shotgun to the face.

I missed out on that game back in the day but I tried to play them on PC a while back and its like they're impossible to run on a modern PC, as in it just doesn't work. I was gutted because I'm mad about horror games and I heard The Suffering was a must see.

The thing is there was never really a video game version of The Omen. That's like saying Dead Rising is a ripoff of Dawn of the Dead, or that Contra's a ripoff of Commando. Not saying Lucius was a great game, but it practically relied on your knowledge of The Omen and its selling point was that you'd get to fill the little hellspawn's shoes.

+TJ F well i actually born q year after the game release, i think one of my most precious memories were when me and my brother sit down and play CBU, later when i was kinda 11 or 12, i downloaded the game.. its just wonderfull, later i played Bioshock, and then bioshock infinite, bdlieve that for me itmwas so easy, in hard, because the gameplay is almost the same as CBU, really apreciate the game, ◆•◆

Always happy to hear Nocturne mentioned. I have a copy of it I'm playing through right now. It's one of the best games of all time in my opinion. The opening video alone is magnificent, and the lighting effects were unlike anything before or for a long time afterwards. Even today dynamic shadows like what Nocturne had are rare. The voodoo god wasn't an enemy, though... you summon Baron Samedi at one point to raise a fellow Spookhouse agent from the dead.
No original Clock Tower? Well, it was only a Japanese release, but if I'm not mistaken you could play it as an extra on Clock Tower (2)?
Speaking of point-and-click, how could they forget Phantasmagoria? Fairly similar to Harvester, though really more like it's cheesier, more comical cousin... but the death/gore scenes were sublime.

Yea....to horror fans. General gamers haven't heard of most of the games on this list. Just about every gamer I've ever known knows about Eternal Darkness.
All the gamers I know have never heard of this game, even back when it was new and I was telling all my friends how awesome it was lol..if nothing else, it deserved an honorable mention (I literally clicked this list expecting to see it).
Koudelka is one of the best survival horror games from the PS1 generation. Four disc story with some seriouly disturbing content for the time. it belongs on a top 10 list of survival horror genre defining games.

Eternal Darkness. It was the reason I ended my years-long ban on purchasing Nintendo things, and it was worth it. I can still hear the chanting... a marvelous horror game indeed. And although not strictly horror, System Shock 2 features some of the scariest and tensest moments in any game I've played.
I played the suffering when I was little .. well I tried to. Whenever I got to the part where he's locked in that room with the gas or whatever I got too anxious and quit. Lol

I wholeheartedly agree with Clive Barker's Undying. I'm one of the people that bought it when it was released and I thought it was one of the scariest games I played then. The atmosphere and the incredible story behind it all made it really awesome.
