paquito just teared up that solo right in every1's face
probably one of the best sax solos i have ever heard
WOW! This is one of the best videos I've seen on RUclips. Paquito's sax solo was amazing. Even Dizzy loved it!
We get to meet Paquito this September. Can't wait!
Thanks SOOOO much for posting this!
It literally does not get better than this :)
These are the Official Heavy Hitters, everyone a virtuoso on their respective instruments. I've watched this concert a zillion times and still am in AWE!!! They are AWESOME!!!
Arturo's wailing lead trumpet here is amazing, as always. This is not one of Dizzy's best solos, but the late trumpeter is a legend and did help invent bebop, and also helped to popularize early Latin-jazz. He's also a heck of a dancer, showman, and bandleader. His puffed-cheek embouchure and up-titled trumpet bell have helped to make him a widely recogized visual icon. And his distictive musical style has made him legendary music figure
¡Paquito de Rivera, qué maestro!

So much CULTURE! The Afro-Cuban beat, the All-American jazz drumming, the harmonious bass, trumpet, and sax!!!!!!
i was born and raised in cheraw, sc and i'm just now listening to dizzy after being around for 19 years. it's great.
Diz was also known for being an outspoken member of the Baha’i Faith, a religion that grew out of the Middle about 1860s and embraces all the world’s dominant religions as One. Baha’i also teaches that all people are one and equal .But one persecution is the illegality of educating Baha’i people in Iran to this day. Iran literally bans Baha’i from teaching and studying in Iranian universities, but these people have developed ways to educate and study. Diz believed in one world education system too. Diz was one with so much.

Tribute to Mister Dizzy Gillespie !
Peace
I've seen a LOT of concerts in my life...but there's two people I've seen that have honestly left me BREATHLESS..."Dizzy" and Miles. That's it.
Real talk.
R.I.P. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie. What you brought the World can never be replaced. What you've spawned in jazz lovers hearts will live into eternity.
I love you man. I really do.
perfect music... classic, i love it
I found this Performance on VHS at a Dollar store....I'm SO glad I bought this!
I'm a huge fan of Airto and Ignacio (yes I'm a drummer lol) so when I saw them on this performance I freaked out! "OMG I GOT THIS ENTIRE THING FOR A DOLLAR!!!!"
Got this on DVD - brilliant!
I've never heard anyone play like Paquito. His style has a character all to its own.
That is true!Im not a specialist but i ve heart that too!Maybe he uses a special kind of mouthpeace.
The Playboy Jazz Festival...Southern Cali...June 1991. I'll never forget it.
R.I.P John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (1917 - 1993)
In 1989 I lived in Nigeria, and Dizzy came. We went crazy, feted him and made him a chief of several villages. He played with local Jazz artist named Doye Agama (a flautist) and the cuban guy on congas conjured all the yoruba ancestors in a wicked drum solo. One of the great memories.
@
I can't stop replaying it
I feel very fortunate that I was able to see and speak to the Diz, Newark NJ Sparky J's.......
That sax soloist was on. Incredible recording. awesome/10
Thank God for Jazz and all it's players.
I just wish people will respect Dizzy, regardless even in this and his other last performances he was still the best on that stage and the world and this time. He is the reason why everyone on that stage became as great as they did without him they would have really been nothing. This is one of my favorites of Dizzy.
I wish we could se a future generation of musicians like these!!
THIS IS THE GREATEST LATIN MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD.
this song has the best groove ever!
Awesome!!! Good Performance!!!
I just Love how Airto Plays the congas as if he was a chef and he was cooking some delicious damn spicy mexican dish!!!!
from start to finish, pure class!!
Thats SAX solo really soothes the soul after hard times, this whole song really helps :D
BEST SAX SOLO OF ALL TIME. paquito is just the greatest
21/10 Master Happy Birthday!!!
Sax spaventoso. Da pelle d'oca!
listening to the solo from 4:31-6:28 sent chills down my back.... MAN HE IS AWESOME
Dizzy (with capital D) will live forever in our hearts
holy shit, that's amazing. arturo and dizzy are the men.
Paquito's alto sax solo is wonderful here. Steve Turre is a great 'bone player, but he needs to get the microphone out his bell so that he sounds better when recorded. Slide Hampton's left-handed trombone solo has a much more pleasing tone quality because the mic placement is good. Great video, though! A real treat, with a stellar aggregation of musicians.
Grandioso concerto... tutti grandi e sono all stars.
I love latin-jazz
The intro: Manteca,
Then: Tin Tin Deo
Masterpieces!
Listen to him from the 50's. He could blow anyone into the ground. He was an old man when this was recorded. Check out a video from when he played a normal trumpet.
Well, never mind he's 72 while playing this... Still pretty fucking incredible that he can keep up to Paquito! God this band is incredible!!
INSANE PAQUITOOO!!!
Wish I had been there!!! Masters at work!!
happy birthday Dizzy Gillespie!!! just amazing
its beautiful
its amazing that he can even play a note with his cheeks like that; yet he still manages to produce a stellar sound
It was also a design of serendipity... a friend fell on his trumpet at a party and bent the bell to that shape! But after playing it he decided he liked it better. Was it king? He played alot of custom designed Martin horns with the up-bent bell as well...
puffy cheek man! great trumpet, great jazz.
Wish I could have seen this live!
i seen this band in '92 at monterery with paquito, was great
Its for sale in musicstores. name: dizzy gillespie and the United nation orchestra, live at the royal festival hall. Recordcompany: Enja (6044-2 DDD) 1990
Paquito, you jut got yourself a new fan......
It's called circular breathing. I'm a trumpet player and music ed major in Indiana. Idk why, but many people can't circular breathe, but I find it very easy. Especially in the higher range.
Legendary Dizzy!!!!
Yeah, absolutely ! ! I think you'd be hard up to find a cat who could play jazz clarinet quite like him (apart from the sax), living or dead. 99.999% of clarinet players out there are non-jazz players, which is unfortunately. I should mention that the sax is many times easier to play the clarinet (speaking from experience). The clarinet requires a iron-clad embouchure vs. saxophone, flute and other instruments. Believe it or not, sax is probably the easiest woodwind instrument to learn.
1:18 looks like Pedro (Efren Ramirez) from Napoleon Dynamite... XD Great vid!!!!
absolute best groove ever!
YEAH!!! Go Dizzy, you're the man... Paquito "rocks" just as hard though, haha!
The masters of jazz
Fabuleux concert , musiciens exceptionnels , PARFAIT !
Até hoje vejo... 11/2020 amo
Wow, arturo sandoval in the back row, he rocks. You almost never seem him there, good thing in another clip he goes up and kills it on the picc and then the Bb.

lindo!!!!! Saludos desde Loja Ecuador
Maravilhoso! Música de verdade!
i love this guy!
4:45 the piano changes it up makes it soooo groovy and you can feel the whole band just start feeling it. just watch the t-bone player behind the sax soloist
Superbo Dizzy Superbo
E o legal do Jazz.
