what great videos if I close my eyes I just picture myself sitting on the porch of my log cabin outside of Seattle enjoying the peace and quiet of the beautiful nature around me...amazing what music can do
Thanks for your nice comment. Just keep your guitar sitting out of the case where you can pick it up a couple times a day for a few mins. You'll do fine! I'm self taught by listening to Bro Oswald's recordings. Still learning here. I'm 75 and didn't really get into the dobro until I was in my early 60's. I love the sound of the dobro. I'm not very fancy, but , I enjoy playing. thanks again. lgbdobro@yahoo.com Larry
Beautiful song, Larry. I've always wanted to learn to play the Dobro, just never got around to it and now I'm probably too old! Ha! Ha! Really enjoy your other videos also.
Darrel, Thanks for the comments. I use an open G tuning on my Dobro and played this song in the Key of C. I once ran across Bro Oz at a festival in Middle Tennessee and he let me pick it for a while and he had his old Dobro tuned up in Open A and used a metal extension nut to raise the strings.
Thanks for the beautiful music. I play the ordinary guitar a little, and it's remarkable how clever somebody was, somewhere back there, to take one of those and make something that makes that really cool sound. And for whatever it's worth, I kept thinking that song sounds like something else, I think that would be Good old summertime, and when the work's all done this fall.
thsnk you do much for this. i learned to slant from these few examples. it was a great time behind the barn as i learned how... it sure makes a difference in the variations of a tune.. thanks again
Beautiful My Friend. Mr. Kirby 'Os' was The man On the ole 'Hounddog'.. He could make 1 cry. Loved Uncle Josh Graves also. Your rendition of this ole Classic is Lovely. Shades of Bashful Brother Oswald""" Thanks MartinHD28V
Sharon, Thanks for your nice comments on this and the other remarks you made concerning my playing and songs. I don't think one is ever to old to learn to play. I played regular guitar for years and didn't take up the Dobro until I was in my mid 50's. Also appreciate your subscribing to my site. Larry
@moosehunterr Thanks my friend. Really appreciate your thoughts. My first try at this You Tube thing. Hopefully will post a few more songs one of these days. It's a learning process for sure and thanks for taking the time to listen. Larry
Either of the resophonics you mentioned are good. You might want to also check Beard Guitars online. Paul Beard makes a beautiful guitar and also distributes the Goldtone import that he personally sets up. Larry
Thanks so much for commenting on my music. I'll put those 3 gospel songs on my "to do list" and will try to them on in a few weeks. You might want to subscribe to my You Tube channel and you will be notified of any new postings. Thanks again. Larry
Thanks , Rich. The brand of the black guitar is an OMI Dobro from the early 80's in Ca before Gibson bought out Dobro and the other one is somewhat smaller, but is also a very old "Dobro" brand and after a lot of research, it appears to be a model 55 and was probably built in the late 20's or early 30's. Has a nice sound, but not nearly as loud as the black one. My first try at YOU TUBE and my next group of songs I post will be much better on balancing the sound. The Dobro needs to louder.
Why Sybil, Thanks so much for the nice comment. I'm glad you liked this song. Years old, but lots of meaning. Have a nice weekend. lgbdobro@yahoo.com Larry
Edna, Thanks so much for your comment watching my old time Dobro pickin'. I'm nothing fancy, but love to play those old waltzes. I record the rhythm with regular flattop and then just play along with it. My daughter does the taping for for me. You made my day. Larry lgbdobro@yahoo.com
That is astounding. Thank you for sharing! I'm 44 now, and was raised on this. So nice.
