This video really goes to show how far Hackney and Waltham Forest are ahead in terms of cycling infastructure. Hackney has loads of LTNs and Waltham Forest has many protected cycle tracks (and LTNs) . They have shown what is possible. Now other boroughs time to catch up (or at least start - looking at you RBCK).
On an unrestricted electric right at the bottom on a good day ha ha. On a serious note, big problem with a gang targeting Brompton's on the bridge just past the ice rink at the moment.
I think an easier way to finish this route is to turn left at Lea Bridge Station and take the cycle lane through the industrial estate and then to follow Q2 up to Walthamstow Market. That second section of Lea Bridge Road and Markhouse Road can get very congested at times, great video as always!
That’s what I came here to say! That’s the route I usually take (though I’m normally visiting a friend on the route, before yo get to the town centre), it avoids those narrow cycle lanes and feels quicker to me. Either way is good though
That's the nice thing about the number of traffic filters and cycle lanes around that part of town, there's always options. Meanwhile in other parts of London if there is a road closure on a particular cycle route, it can be quite difficult to route around.
@@liamness Yes, the difference really is like night and day between me going north up to Walthamstow or south, down towards Bromley or Bexley where you often have no choice but to go on busy roads with zero bike infrastucture
Heads up that, when you're crossing Mare Street, if you try and look cool by leaning nonchalantly on one of those metal-looking posts in the middle of the road while you're waiting for a gap, they're pretty flimsy and you will look daft
Hi London Cycle Routes - a request if you may. A nice introductory cycle route in the Center of London for tourists, it'd be great to hit some of the attractions of our City and I think cycling across the City is a great way to explore it. Not everyone is a commuter and some people just want to cycle around leisurely and so with summer coming up it might be great to post a few of your recommended routes. Just an idea as you would have the knowledge to drum up a wicked route. Also I would highly recommend taking advantage of the YT shorts functionality. You could post little clips of your route or show how some intersections work as a intro to new viewers as to what they can expect from the channel. Love the content and am a little obsessed so only want to see you grow!
@@Londoncycleroutes love it. i particularly noticed less pavement parking, so good lines of sight, lower speeds of vehicles, and seemed like more patience with cycles and pedestrians. and it was nice to see people waiting in the lane, before making a turn into a side road, whilst pedestrians crossed the minor road. i guess i was in the centre, perhaps further out things might be different?
@@oddknack when I lived there I actually didn't cycle except for the odd deckless rental e bike because the driving is appalling. but after I visited post-pandemic they had made a lot of changes. one amazing thing they do is just thrown down some concrete blocks overnight to put in a popup bike like. in London they take several years to put in a popup!
Love this video and as always love your work. Personally I enjoy (cautiously) bombing down Powerscroft to the base of Millfields Park instead of turning left onto Almack Road like you do......but I like your suggestion as an alternate, hadn't thought of that. Cheers!
Great video and really nice visuals! Very interesting to see how much effort is going into cycle infrastructure in an outer London borough. Wish the others were all as ambitious:D
On weekends when Broadway Market is full of stalls / pedestrians, you can just go down Sheep Lane, hardly takes you out of the way at all and is also very low traffic. Similar story for Columbia Road, turn off at the Birdcage pub and come back via Barnet Grove. I wish the council would put up diversion signs as people do try to cycle through regardless. Which in some sense is fair enough as it's a signed cycle route and it's reasonable to expect that it's usable 24 / 7, but it isn't pleasant for either party.
Good news from up north-west: Barnet Council just agreed to make the A1000 cycle lane permanent and upgrade it - hopefully they will also consider new schemes on other main roads now that cycle lanes have shown to be popular (62% support).
I am wondering if there is a way for you to connect up these routes to offer NS, SN, EW and WE routes? btw I did Waterloo to Greenwich and it was great but can you connect me to Walthamstow from through the foot tunnel and it gets me out towards Essex?
Some of the routes on the channel are longer eg I think Stockwell to Wanstead fits what you’re talking about? At the moment it’s not great to go from foot tunnel northwards sadly as there isn’t a great way through the Isle of Dogs… and also north from the Isle of Dogs too really. I am doing a bit of a study of that area though so maybe will be able to figure something out
I do a route from Charlton up to A friends house up in Walthamstow sometimes, I use the woolwich foot tunnel (or ferry, which is running well lately, as the north lift is broken) then up towards the Greenway. (This section is tricky to find a quiet route) then up the Olympic park then similar to the route shown here (though I turn right up orient way and follow the cycle path through the industrial estate and onto Q2. It’s great as from the greenway onwards it is just about entirely traffic free.
@@a1white there were plans to put in some kind of cycleway down there a few years ago but with the TfL funding squeeze it isn't happening any time soon
The road surface throughout a lot of that route looks to be in poor condition. I wish TFL would do something about it as sometimes it can be dangerious.
TH council will remove it, because it's of no use to the family patriarchs who they exclusively represent. This is what happens when power is given to local big men and not central bureaucracy. Hope you like 5 minute journeys in big blue 4x4s!

Strongly agree! Two of the best boroughs
I do this trip a few times a week, the 40mph down Powerscroft is the best bit!
Haha is it actually 40mph?

Walthamstow after a long! 🖖🖖
Always good to visit!
@@Londoncycleroutes if I ever visit London will certainly cycle around Walthamstow.
Wow I haven’t been to Shoreditch in a while, the back roads are so useful
That Bethnal Green LTN makes such a difference I really hope they keep it
Thanks. The section from Lea Bridge Road to Shoreditch would have been very useful to me when I cycled along the Lea from the YHA at Cheshunt.
It’s a great bit of route
Great Video! I dare to say this is probably THE most accessible route I have ever seen on this channel. Great infrastructure shown there
I think you might be right, thanks as always for the lovely comment!
just back from a trip to Brussels where cycling was great, glad London is getting better and better!
