I'm from America and I agree. I love Eurovision and I love Spanish/Portuguese music. Seems like now would be a perfect time for something like this to return.

As a Spaniard I think that the OTI festival must return as soon as possible.
Latín music is going through a golden age and apart from that, some OTI broadcarters such as Televisa, Telemundo and Venevision are more poweful than some if the EBU's Big five members. However, if OTI returns, the televote must be introduced in order to make the event more modern and transparent.

Hi, I'm talking to you about the future 8 months after your comment, and I have great news.
Hispavisión is going to be realized, the OTI with another name will be back in 2023.
I Hope that Hispavision Will be an amazing contest and that will achieve what OTI could not.
@@fuehi2ster It is already known that it will be organized in Cartagena, Colombia in 2023.
The Spanish broadcaster RTVE is organizing it and they are contacting all the public broadcasters of the Spanish-speaking countries for the organization, Brazil and Portugal would be guests.
Hopefully the televote will be implemented and yes, it will achieve what OTI could not.
Also, Marcos Llunas is the only winning contestant to have also participated at Eurovision (he competed for Spain two years after representing them at OTI). On the flip side, only one Eurovision winner has participated at OTI: Efrem Benita, who competed for the Netherlands Antilles in 1981, would win for Estonia twenty years later as Dave Benton. Plenty of Spanish and Portuguese contestants have also competed at both events. I believe Dulce Pontes and Anabela represented Portugal at both OTI and Eurovision in the same year!
Don't forget Betty Missiego, who represented Peru in 1972 and Spain seven years later.

Thanks! I've been looking into other regions versions of Eurovision. There's also Afrimusic which is pretty similar in format but doesn't appear to have made a big impression yet.
Correction: The 1991 edition was held in Acapulco, Mexico; the 1997 edition was held in Lima, Peru; and the 1998 edition was held in San Jose, Costa Rica.

1997 was in Peru, not Costa Rica. I also could've sworn 1991 was in the USA but that just might be my memory acting up.
De hecho en el 2000 hubo una gran controversia con la victoria de las hijas de Willy Chirino, las Chirino Sisters, fueron duramente criticadas de que no sabían cantar, hasta que ganaron con el padrinaje de Emilio Estefan, desde que ganaron nunca grabaron ni tan siquiera un CD, fue debut y despedida. Muchos vieron ganador al queridisimo José Vega mejor conocido como el Payaso Remi y su salsa "Con Una Cancion" escrita por el mismo y en arreglos de Pedro Rivera Toledo, esta obtuvo el 2do lugar y muchos tildaron como un robo la victoria de las Chirino Sisters
La voz de Claudia Carenzo me parece la más linda de todo la OTI, justo premio de primer lugar en la oti 94

i would personally make it more centered on the americas as a whole rather than just the hispano-lusophone countries (effectively removing the language rule and spain and portugal out of the contest) and make it more closer in format to eurovision, don't know if it would work but it would be cool
who knows, maybe we could bring back the failed american song contest as the national final for the US
Mis preferidos Nydia Caro, Rafael Jose, Marcos Yunas pero the best Francisco ganando 2 veces el mismo. Clase voz!!!
No solo los medios locales sino internacionales opinaron lo mismo, me acuerdo que en el Show de las 12 de Telemundo recibieron a Remi como todo un ganador y hasta la producción del programa y el canal mismo junto a varios auspiciadores le entregaron los premios como si fuera de primer lugar llamando a esto el clamor de Justicia ya que muchos críticos coincidieron en que esta fue la canción ganadora, tras esta controversia se cancelo el Festival OTI de la canción perdiendo su credibilidad, pero recordamos como la punta de lanza para muchos cantantes, como Lucecita Benitez, Emmanuel, Ednita Nazario, José José entre otras super estrellas latinoamericanas
El comediante y cantante Florcita Motuda ganó por Chile en el 1998, recordadisimo por el anuncio del caramelo Media Hora de Dos en Uno en los 80's

I'm sorry but what even is Oti?
OTI stands for "Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica" which translates as "Organization of Telecommunications of Ibero-America", the contest was known as the OTI Song Contest as it was held by the OTI, just like the ESC is named as it is because it's held on the Eurovision network.

@@peopipeo so it's United States, that's the right name. When their song did start the info of song and country was just "Estados Unidos", not "América"
@@izhar400 I don’t see the issue really. Countries have multiple names. For example the UK, Grate Britain, United Kingdom, Britain. And just Bc another language uses a diferente version of the name doesn’t mean it’s the only one. Netherlands in English is “Netherlands” and in Spanish it’s “Países Bajos”, so is that wrong?
