    wow!!! those server computer rack mount cases are still going? I remember working for a manufacturing company that used 19inch racks to test their products. Each rack was filled with that computer case and HP test equipment. Thing is, this was 30 odd years ago :) Nice to see those 19inch rack computer cases still in use.

      @@tobitweaks On those servers: If you don't plan on keeping them, I would be happy to see them go to a computer collector. These things are not very valuable, but they are a cool piece of early internet history, and there are not that many working ones left (many have broken over the years), so it would be very sad to see these in the trash.

      @@unmountablebootvolume I have been blessed by unmountable boot volume hahaha such a cool username!!! I recently sold one of the proliant servers to the junkyard for like five euros and felt super bad but: it was not working and in parts already. The working one I kept last minute! Original first gen Lawo system. They stepped away from Proliant servers to custom pcs within a year after my console. Thanks for the heads up, I‘ll take care! All the best, Tobi

      @@tobitweaks While it's sad the spare one got junked, I'm really glad you saved that dual P3 one! Those seem to be quite rare, as all P3 servers I ever saw were single cpu.
      The username actually came from the win Vista days, where I got that one A LOT. Back then, it was mostly caused by broken hard drives. Tip: if you keep getting unmountable boot volume at random points in the boot process (sometimes right after turning on, other times it might even reach the login screen), check the connectors between the hard drive and its circuit board. Often, the read/write head connectors corroded (especially on early lead-free drives, where they stopped puting solder on the connecting pads), so the system randomly gets bad data and bluescreens while booting. Cleaning the connector fixed about 1/3 of unmountable drives.

    • @tobitweaks
      @tobitweaks  18 дней назад

      @@unmountablebootvolume Haha I‘ll think of you once I get that unmountable boot drive screen! Also I did not know that the proliants were sought after in any way - to be fair I kinda hated them. The IDE was limited to optical drives only, all you could use were the original scsi drives. BIOS was locked so only access to boot settings is via a software on CD that easily renders your win installation unbootable.All the best, Tobi

      Für Broadcast und TV garantiert überholt, aber für Recording Studios die teilweise noch auf Neve Consolen aus den 70er Jahren laufen würde ich das anzweifeln…da sieht die Kombination aus einem extrem hochwertigen analogen Signalweg, solide programmierter DSP und flexiblem und dabei digital speicherbaren Routing erstaunlich modern aus. Nur die Optik, die ist natürlich ganz was eigenes :) Oh und ja die Anlage verbraucht im Betrieb aktuell gemessen 1,8 kw das sind gute 50 cent die Stunde. Beste Grüße, Tobi

    So cooles Spielzeug... Ich würde von allen Maschinen noch Images ziehen, falls die Festplatten mal alle viere von sich strecken... Hast du mal darüber nachgedacht die meisten Systeme einfach zu virtualisieren, soweit möglich? Damit könnte man vermutlich den Stromverbrauch und die Lautstärke ganz drastisch reduzieren.

    • @tobitweaks

Ich will mir deren Stromversorgung in Zukunft mal anschauen. Beste Grüße, Tobias

      @tobitweaks  Месяц назад

    • @paradieshenne
      @paradieshenne Месяц назад

      @tobitweaks IMHO a brownout is worse than a blackout in most cases. If it's from the grid, it may also carry significant overvoltage. A decent UPS is also a good overvoltage protection. If you want even better overvoltage protection, look into installing a type/class 2/II surge protector in your distribution as a pre-stage

    Be careful with the cooling in the Schrank, there don’t seem to be holes in the doors, then heat can build up and the stuff can break. In the data center we used always doors with holes. Even if you install all 4 fans, they are not very effective, this design is outdated. At least install some temperature sensor so you can see what is going on.

    • @tobitweaks
      @tobitweaks  Месяц назад +1

      While monitoring the heat is definitely recommended and a always a good idea, with this low amount of devices I wouldn’t expect too many problems as long as cold air can enter from below and “hot” air can escape from the top. Just don’t fill the rack completely (back and front) with server hardware from around 2010… That stuff gets *hot*

    So first yes, theese systems where left on all day because turning it off and on puts stress on caps and causes thermal expansion and contraction which damages boards and components. This is quiet a rule for industrial stuff. The more electronics is in there, te greater the chance that somthing blows up on cold start.
    Next, definetly make shure to backup each and every disk from every computer. Storage devices will fail and you most likely won't be able to make a fresh install again. Once one disk fails and You don't have an image to clone it onto a new medium from, the whole thing will turn into a paperweight. So don't relie on a single drive. Always have a backup on at least a second drive or an image file. No matter if it is SSD, HDD of flash storage, they all are proven to fail.

    ich hab a bisserl Schmerzen mit der Stromversorgung im Schrank, Alles auf einem Stromkreis. Wenn du da nur den einen Schalter hast, hast du da ne schöne Welle an Strom, die dir den Automaten auslösen können. Besser wäre es, kurz Zeit versetzt (halbe Sek reicht da) in Gruppen zu schalten. Im übrigen sollte der Hauptschalter am Pult ggfs. auch getauscht werden, dass man da beim Einschalten nen Lichtbogen sieht, sollte so wohl nicht sein
    (Ich spiele grad mit 8 Movingheads a 120W rum, reproduzierbare Auslösung des B16A-Automaten beim gemeinsamen EInschalten)

    • @tobitweaks
      @tobitweaks  Месяц назад

      Hi! Danke für dein Kommentar! Ich habe tatsächlich beim Einschalten manchmal Probleme mit der Sicherung. Der Schrank an sich kommt auf 900 Watt im Dauerbetrieb, die Bedien Oberfläche nochmals auf 700 das geht an sich - aber der Hauptschalter knallt mir manchmal die Sicherung raus. Ich überlege ihn einfach zu umgehen und die Stromversorgung über eine schaltbare Steckdose zu regeln. Allerdings ist im Hauptschalter eine automatische Übernahme eingebaut, die zwischen zwei Stromkreisen wählen kann (wenn einer ausfällt) und genau das macht den Lichtbogen beim Einschalten. Vielleicht hab ich auch versehentlich die Konsole auf dem ersatz Stromkreis angeschlossen dass der Umschalter beim Einschalten jedes Mal springt? Danke für die Anregung und beste Grüße, Tobi
