  • How to Use a Microscope. Step 2, Setting up the Light. Illuminate your microscopic journey with our step-by-step guide on setting up the light for your microscope. In this tutorial, we begin with the basics: plugging in your microscope and powering it on to activate the light source. We dive deeper as we explore the nuances of adjusting the light intensity using the designated knob, starting with the highest intensity for the best clarity. We also introduce the iris, a crucial component that controls the amount of light reaching your sample. Learn the difference between a fully open iris, which allows maximum light, and a closed one, which minimizes it. For beginners, we recommend starting with the iris fully open to achieve the brightest setting.

It is best to have light from above as well as below. Over saturated light from below may mask colours because some specimens may be opaque. Having illumination from all around gives best results.
