First RUclips comment I’ve ever posted but I felt I needed too. Can’t stress how much frustration and how many times I just said “screw it” and gave up on figuring these things out. Every other video “explaining” operation procedures and just said “see it’s simple” without showing anything in particular. This is a prime example of why not all things should be digitized because contrary to popular belief nowadays you can’t find “everything” on the internet.

This video is so much more informative and easier to understand than the owner's manual. Thanks for posting!

You ain’t kidding. “Hold Y spring” and it was referring to some that looked nothing like a spring. That spring wasn’t properly shown on the diagram either, making it so frustrating to release a tad.

I have only been around cheap knockoffs of these and they were quite dangerous. I have even been given a few due to the owner's frustration. After a little studying I threw them away! Thanks for the tutorial, I will know what to look for next time.

You're welcome and yes that was part of why I made this video, it seems that often that people are frustrated by these colors when they are really pretty easy to use

Thank you- so much better than any written directions.

I’ve always been sketched out by comealongs. They’re certainly handy, but once they’re under tension, oh boy, I want nothing to do with them at that point.

What is the brand of the blue come along you show in the video. If you said the name of it, I just could not understand when I looked at the video. I have a few different come along hoists or cable pullers and each seems to work differently. One does not even have any online instructions, even though the company is a USA company. It can be frustrating, as so many of the cable puller/come along videos just show unboxing or crappy reviews and don't really answer much at all as to how to really use them. Is the pully setup on the blue puller you show actually the same as a 1:1 or double purpose or even a snatch block? Trying to learn about them before I get into a rough situation. Thanks for posting your video as it helps greatly.

thanks for the review. you said that this winch is good but not the best. Which come along do you consider to be superior?

Can these be used in reverse? To lower things from a higher point?

It's a no name Chinese one I got from a flea market

Catus: The idea that it was a 1) No-name Chinese winch and that 2) You purchased it at a flea market was interesting. Those purchases can be risky if you don't have a lot of knowledge about the product. That, and the seller may not show up at that market the following weekend if you have a problem with it. My follow-up question then is: What, if any, U.S.-made winch(es) would you recommend over the Maasdam 144SB-6, given that it uses older technology and seems to be less-convenient/efficient to use? Thanks.

@@CatusMaximus That heavy chrome plating on the teeth, although pretty, may be simple trick to hide potential unpleasant weaknesses in the metal. That bling is no good if all that's under there is some cheap pot metal zinc alloy. Lots of Amazon reviewers having issues with the teeth breaking on many overseas knock-offs.
