Cantonment board - type of urban local body. The station commander of the Army is the ex-officio president of the board. The CEO of the cantonment board is an IDES officer who is appointed by the President. The Cantonment board comes under the Ministry of Defense.

I would like to tell everyone one that cantonment should not exist its a colonial practice and people living there are very oppressed no welfare schemes no rights and even army constantly torture these people under the name of security...what will u do by becoming IDES officer you will only be a officer of cantonment which is very oppressed ..I hope people preparing for upsc should know the reality..a bungalow and car and respect is not going to make your life happy ..army will not let u do anything for cantt minimum budget...I think people should pursue something else In life it is nothing as compared to ias or ips or ifs (in terms for civil service)...I think one of the worst jobs for a talented person instead pursue your passion you will be far more happy ..I absolutely respect gaurav kaushal sir he is an ides officer I am very sure he is a brilliant officer but he also knows the harsh reality of cantonments .he should have gotten ias he deserves it.

IAAS is far better. Within 16 years you will be auditer general of a state. Promotion in IAAS is at par with IAS.
