Great vid. Can I attach the clips directly to a block wall (e.g. with TapCon masonry screws)?
This looks like a good system. I've always had good luck with 2 walls with regular drywall on the first, then 1/2", insulation, and a double layer on the second. No special materials needed which is a plus. I can't hear anything of the neighbors despite sharing a very tall wall. I may look into this if I have to do another one and don't have the space.
Does this mean you didn’t build a stud wall and put plasterboard on the wall then 1/2 insulation? If so how did you fix it & what insulation? Bit confused with all these special systems..
Thanks for the informative video. I'm just curious why you stand up the drywall, short-side down instead of long-side down to reduce the number of vertical seams in the wall. I'd think less seams less noise penetration. Also less vertical seams makes the finished wall look smoother to the human eye. I used isolation clips on my ceiling and on the walls I laid my drywall long-side down for my percussion room and it has worked very well.
25 mm soundblock 50 mm framing infilled with 50mm soundblock then two sheets soundproof insulation board ! Cheap and very very effective! Happy me !

Great video ,how can the studs be joined to the party wall to make sure of a gap?

You can build a stud frame that connects to the adjacent walls, floor and ceiling slightly set off from the party wall. Alternatively, you can attach MuteClip directly to the party wall. Why is it so hard to find soundproof contractors in the US like this.. I’m in Atlanta, GA and have called 15 contractors and get same response- yeah we don’t really do that.. bummer

Because all soundproofing uses high mass, it is best to consult a structural engineer before you install a system, yes.

Hi, our current systems don't actually use an additional stud frame. This setup is for our in-house testing and is a stud wall supported by brick pillars. Our current wall systems use MuteClips that are screwed directly into your brick or stud wall. However, if you want to create a decoupled stud wall in front of your existing brick wall, you would need to cover the outer perimeter in flanking band, to reduce vibration transference, and then screw the frame to the adjacent structures.
Hi iKoustic, great video! Any specific reason why you recommend the 60kg/m3 mineral wool over the 100kg/m3 mineral wool? I'm assuming its simply an effectiveness per cost as 100kg/m3 would always be better. Is it just that it's a negligible gain for the much more expensive wool? Thank you!

Hello, I live in a country were the Tecsound SY70 is not available (Thailand). So if there is nothing to replace it, I will just put 1 layer of plasterboard.
How efficient this will be? Any recommendation to find a similar product? Thank you
You could put green glue between the two layers of plasterboard

how does this work for blocking out heavy bass, low frequencies.....that's what i'm trying to block out from my neighbors apt next door, i keep hearing his bass... does this system work for bass?
Hi,
Low frequencies are the hardest to soundproof against. That's why you can always hear the bass outside a bar or nightclub. That being said this system will reduce a lot of the bass you're dealing with. Yes you can just use acoustic plasterboards if you wish to improve your noise issue. It's worth noting it won't deliver the same results but if you are only after a small improvement this is a common choice.

@@K0msur You can yes. This will result in poorer performance but is a common soundproofing technique.

Yes you can, this would be called out Muteboard Single system. In this system, you adhere the Tecsound to the back of the plasterboard before installing instead.

Do you use acoustic sealant between the sections of tecsound
Hi,
It shouldn't be required between the Tecsound layers as there aren't usually gaps. As the video shows, you can fit the Tecsound layers right up next to each other. You can also overlap them slightly and then trim away the excess for a perfect fit. If you did end up with some cracks, then sealant won't hurt and is a good idea.

Thanks! You offset the stud wall from the party wall, but then isn't the rock wool touching the party wall? Is that an issue?

No, this is perfectly fine. Acoustic mineral wool doesn't conduct vibrations in the way rigid materials do. Instead it 'exhausts' them, so contact is perfectly fine and will prevent cavity space fo the drum effect.

We haven't done this but we prefer using a membrane between two rigid layers (in this case acoustic plasterboards) as it adds a degree of flex. This prevents a sound that might excite layer one from easily passing into layer two.
So the last part confuse me with the sealing. Isn't that thin layer applied along the edge a huge weakness in the wall?
In regards to subwoofers and sound isolation in general? I've never understood that part. And could you not also add isolation in the space the decoupling creates of its depth, although a small gap?
Also is there a way to come in contact with you?
I have my complete floorplan with the wood structure made in a 3D program. I have stripped down all my walls in the living room and changed the isolation to hunton woodfiber.
About to build a second two inch wall with isolation on the inside against the harsh cold weather and trying to figure out the best way to build it without ruining my wallet. Decoupling is off the table, but the rubber band underneath the wall and on top and sides, with a small gap between and heavy wood fiber boards on that with no connection to the walls or ceiling is where I'm at.

To illustrate the benefits of mUteClip you could compare our MuteBoard 2 system vs our MuteClip double system. MuteBoard 2 system is missing the MuteClip and channel and one layer of plasterboard. This system is capable of creating a 6dB reduction whereas the alternative using MuteClip creates a 15dB reduction.

@@Theballroomgreenhills Adding 100mm of stud wall onto the current stud wall (both filled with RW3 60kg/m3 Mineral wool) Should improve the performance of the system by 4-6dB. There will be a similar improvement for a staggered stud wall formation.

It's good to show you but doesn't show how good it actually works. They should do a normal wall with sound coming through then this ikoustic system in place so we can hear the before and after. I know they have a separate video showing decibels reducing 5,10,15 etc but that's not in the real world . This video should have been a before and after so we can hear how affective this system is.
Hi Glenn, thanks for the suggestion! Sadly this is a free standing example wall in an open space, so a sound test as you describe wasn't possible. We are always looking out for these opportunities as we know hearing is beleiving!
mineral wool will sag in time...
mineral or fibre wool is the only acoustic absorber, you can't have rigid insulation like PIR as it does nothing for sound proofing
