Greetings from Ireland, where we also have lots of red-haired people. I really enjoyed seeing your video, is is refreshing to see ordinary peoples’ lives, rather than what is on the news. There was once a strong pagan culture here and some aspects of it survive. We have many ‘holy’ wells where people still go to pray and leave offerings, though their prayers are Christian, these days. And one of our most important saints is Briget (Bríd or Brigid). She had flaming red hair and was the goddess of the Spring, now the women’s saint. Please keep making the videos. I hope your troubles are resolved. God bless.

Another great video. It's so wonderful to see another side of Russia and the warm culturally rich people there besides what we in the west see there in the news. Not to say all is perfect, but there is so much good under the surface and I hope to visit one day. Thank you for such an uplifting peek into a fascinating culture. I think the village life can be hard but beautiful and spiritually rewarding, yet most of people want to cluster in big cities to experience stress and pollution. Nice video, thanks for showing us the life of an almost unknown European culture that deserves more attention 👏

A wonderful, delightful video as always Elena. The connections between Finns and Udmurt, as spoken of by the hotel owner, are unexpected (to me) and fascinating. The entire video is charming. And I hope of course you resolve all issues in your life to a good outcome. However, it I confess my favorite bit is the funky music and montage in the first 20 seconds, very very hip and cool!

What a great video! First though, İ would like to express my wish that the problems that you experience are resolved soon. İt is always good to see your videos and this one is very interesting for me because İ write on ancient history and Sun God is important and found in cultures around the world. İ am also interested in languages Finno Ugric too which includes Hungarian and originates from Lake Baikal area and the ancient people who spoke it may have come from Southeast Asia though the language may have originated around Lake Baikal and even Mongolia and Northern China. Languages and peoples have deep histories from many parts of the world. Loved the costumes, the plains and cozy Russian village houses. Even the log fight for the strongest man was interesting. Everything to do with the forest. Wonderful vlog. Spasiba Elena!

Yes. Although, I wanted to say, that we Hungarians can not understand a single word from either Finnish or Udmurtic language. So the so called Finno-Ugric family does not exist for me. I admire Finnish culture personally but I think, Hungarian one is totally different from that. Might have close connections with Kazanians and Chuvash people.

A lazy boring sunday and along comes charming Elena with a lovely video to safe the day. :)
Don't stress yourself with keeping up a video posting schedule. There are more important things in life.
We don't know what kind of questions keep you busy. Just keep in mind that the future is uncertain, so try to focus on the present. If it's about decisions, and logic doesn't have an answer for you, do what feels right.
I'd really like to visit Russia at some point, but all I can say in Russian is "I don't speak Russian." That needs to be addressed before.
A flight from germany to St. Petersburg is a lot cheaper than to Izevsk, and I can probably do more there when traveling alone, like visit the museums you showed in your St. P. videos :).

Elena, this was another excellent video!
You did a great job in your impromptu interview with the woman who runs a hotel. You asked very good questions and listened to her answers. You asked questions that let her explain and detail. You didn't ask those questions that only get a 'yes' or 'no' answer. Not every interviewer is as good.
I could have listened to her more, explaining her pagan rituals and what her gods are. Perhaps you can go back and delve into those subjects.
I too wonder what those people do for a living. Next time, ask people to describe their work.
It was heartening to see the fun those people had at the festival. I'd bet they are mostly happy with their lives.
Thanks for all your good work.

"Orja" (aria) in current finnish means "slave"... that is one of the facts that show us that the indoe europeans tribes who called themselves Arians lived in contact (it seems not a very friendship one...) with Fino Ugrians people aprox 5.000 years ago. Those tribes who now we called Sinthasta and Andronovo cultures later a part of them went to the south (Iran / India) and others stayed and the scientist link them to what later historians call Scythians.

This video must have taken a lot of time to edit. You captured the place and the people with your usual sensitivity and insight. Pagans, furry people, nature - all good, and you have left me happy to have taken the time to watch.
So - before I go back to sleep - I should ask for clarification. Do you or don't you speak the Udmurt language? I know your family is from the region, but it seems you did not learn the language. Is that right? If so, is that common? Maybe you understood what these people said in Udmurt, but don't speak yourself? I guess my sleeplessness has me confused.
I'm just curious, in any case.
Thanks for sharing this trip by way of such a well-made video. May your problems be in the past.

Hey Village Girl! Let's go to the festival and have some tea and blinis!! Afterwards, we will listen to some songs like "Ойся ты Ойся" and maybe you will dance with swords while I make your video for your channel. Then we will go to the forest to find some forest spirits and maybe hang some pancakes on trees! Ha!! Sound good to you? What do you think?
