Map07 author here. I haven't really played Final Doom since I was a kid in the 90's. Map07 left a huge impression on me back then, so this remake is based on 20-year-old memories. Same with Map11 which I also did for this project. And I think I misremembered some of Plutonia's difficulty into this.
I just got ps1 final doom and I wanted more all is well on the at least it's not doom1/2 over an over again spoiler alert .. ... sandy peterson made aoe2, he also changed the level design of the game overall due to religious interests, like they made a jesus face button floor level they didn't introduce, and I think it shows the desperation some in final doom to maybe do others harm idk something like
Did you feel you were improving on the original while creating the map? By mis-remembering giving better combat opportunities and took out hit scanners for higher tier enemies - great! For two missing super-charge, it's forgivable (difficulty spike). The weapon layout makes sense especially after seeing the play through, the Barons aren't missed in this harder map (esp. the prison area which looks less annoying). I hope I have time in the future to play this creation.
i simply HAD to skip straight to MAP07 to hear that glorious midi. what i think happened was that "Soldier of Chaos" was too easy to remember, and since apparently the guy tasked with this midi had 'remixed' songs to be off on purpose before (D2TWWRI - MAP27), he purposely made the midi out of tune and staggered as if he "forgot" how it was supposed to go. hats off to you, Mr robo_cola
I wonder if Map 9: Stronghold is the "Defensive Perimeter" mentioned in the Doom TNT Game Manual. It is said that this stronghold was supposed to be a fire pocket meant to stop another possible demonic invasion as the reformed but dying UAC continued its experiments on interdimensional travel - until hell attacked from the "wrong direction" using spaceships instead
Plutonia from memory is in production now. I actually participated in, I made MAP25. Spoiler - they didn't get rid of that rule about playing the map a couple of times. I remember I saw the comment in one of your Doom 2 From Memory videos, somebody made a joke like "in Plutonia From Memory every linedef will be replaced with a string of chaingunners", funniest shit I've ever seen
Fun story from my childhood - the only reason i was always preferring to play TNT instead of Plutonia was simply because TNT had custom music. Imagine if more people liked TNT for that more, plutonia team had one job.
They should really rename these 'cursed' projects to "-Doom game here- But You Saw it 5 Minutes Ago". Nothing will beat early Episode 1 Cyberdemon or every wall being a lift.
Something about that Map 7 midi gives me the same sort of joy that the sad farting clowns from the Mansion Basement in Resident Evil Dualshock Edition give me, there's just something so cursed about it that you can't help but to appreciate its wonders.
You should make a rule to blow up all the barrels. At least the ones, you see. Leaving barrel intact is like leaving a monster alive for my completionist eyes.
I am impressed by that map 8 recreation. Most of the stuff was correctly placed. I think the creator skipped the items on the stairs of the final room and that'd be it. And speaking of MIDIs, I'm still working on that remix of your MIDI - which won't become a MIDI itself, I'm trying to do something else - but it's hard. Your music skills are impressive. Some other songs by you feel like they just need the vocals.
It's very notorious how most of these maps feel like a serious improvement over the originals, simply by means of being much smaller in scale. So it's a lot easier to deal with the Hitscan and in general it looks prettier and cozier. It's amazing but every single room just looks smaller and much more tidy. Like the mappers really wanted more symmetry and sense of scale.
I think part of it is that it feels less cursed when you aren't as familiar with the maps. I thought there were some things a bit off with MAP06 so I rewatched BMD's playthrough and there are indeed quite a few pretty big differences which would probably have got more of a reaction in a D1 or D2 level. The entry to the piston room is completely different, for a start. I still agree that it's all just a bit too accurate, though. There's differences, but the overall layout is more or less spot on and so is most of the texturing. I've played through TNT a few times over the years, but if you taught me mapmaking and then told me to make that map the setpieces would still have been there but probably not in the right order, the textures would be all over the place, the connecting corridors would be completely wrong and there'd probably be a few random elements from other maps thrown in for good measure.
It is so refreshing to hear good things about TNT. Civvie's bitching about how "bad" it is getting too annoying. Although I usually enjoy his videos, his TNT shorts usually gets E3M8-likes from me.
The sheer joy we get from you when something is cursed or so delightfully wrong is what makes me excited for these. It also makes we want to see maps that are made wrong deliberately, just to gauge the reactions.
I saw your TNT Video and i thought, why don't i play the level and then watch you play this version. So i can tell which are faithful and which are cursed.

Hey decino! A suggestion if I should be so bold... maps you might not remember so well from the originals could perhaps be played off cam for you to be a refreshed memory in your mind. Then your reaction to the Cursed aspect of these maps would be more prominent? Not that it matters too much, as still entertaining as all hell.
49:13 I feel called out. (I'm not an expert on TNT, but it's my favorite wad thus far). Decino was right though. The room with the plasma rifle and yellow keycard in map10 is taller and has thicker pillars and is larger in the original. The "courtyard" where the red keycard is found is also larger, and there's no blue door frame in the area with the mega armor. I also have to wonder if map09's name is a reference to the "me and the boys" meme.
So, what do I think about this one here. Favorite map, 07 definitely! Map 09 is the only one I find Okay. Map 08 is all the more disappointing! Remix for Map 08 is nice but.....shouldn't be Remade instead? Am I wrong here? I honestly don't know. Nevertheless, this was still fun in it's own rights! Great job as always decino! Can't wait to see part 3! 👍

MAP09 is called Stronghold in the original, but they called it "The Boys" in the recreation and they called MAP10 Weakly Holding. It's like they messed up the order or something.
@28 min mark, that music reminds me of the melody upbeat tempo from the movie "The Hitmans Bodyguard" any time Sam Jackson was taking down a bunch of bad guys.
Chance for introspection; maybe the reason you like the cursed stuff is because you get to show off how much better you remember the originals compared to the level maker? I'd say it's impressive that they are able to get it so right, even with a refresher.
The whole reason of remaking maps from memory is to remake maps from memory, and if you can compare someone else's memory to yours, that's just a direct by-product of you seeing something you don't think was there, or maybe it was, and you start remembering, and that's what's fun
@@ultrasupermegakek2932 Yes, that is my point. Saying that something is "too accurate" makes no sense, is the author supposed to make it wrong on purpose? It's kinda weird to knock something for being too good.
@@FlamerFingers If you know you remember the map 100% accurately because you've played it a day or a week ago, what's the point of naming it "from a memory"? If you want a more abstract answer, treat the whole project as a dream. You can never know what others' dreams look like, you can only ever imagine what they are, but with something like this, you get a way to actually get into someone's near-dream experience, like someone trying to recreate something from over 20 of years ago, and isn't that way more interesting than just "haha look I am so good at remembering, I remember this map pixel by pixel"? If everyone played by the latter, you'd end up with the proper id tnt wad, and I don't think the project is "recreate the original wads as close as possible"
I'm glad I didn't make any maps for this project. Having played TNT once, i definitely would've fucked everything up badly lmao Despite that, I still really like TNT Evilution
Here’s my take on recreating maps from memory. Some people have a good memory, some people have a perfect memory where they manage to remember every single detail to a T, then there are those people who don’t have a very good memory so they miss most of the details and then rarely some people don’t remember any of the details. In short, some people have better memories than others, but one change I would make to the rule is have them play the original map once and only once or if they remember the map that well then don’t allow them to play the original map at all. Just go straight to recreating it and see if they really remember it that well. Because the problem with playing through it twice, the people who have a superior memory will be able to remember all the details much easier than everyone else. But someone like me would heavily struggle with that even if I played the original twice, my recreation could still come out utterly cursed as my memories of certain things are fuzzy at best. It really depends on the person and their memory. But a few of these seemed to be recreated from memory almost too perfectily, I suspect cheating occurred on a few of them.
I feel like, to keep the spirit of how people remember the map without making it too difficult to remake it, I'd have it so your allowed to replay the map, but your only allowed to start remaking the map a week later.
3:50 the original had you lower down into an area with red lights, which gave you radiation damage (from the reactor) I believe. This level is _SO_ messed up. 52:00 it is not quite the same (52:00 that trap room was deeper and the entrance was narrower).. but I think that this map is so simple that I don't see how someone with a halfway decent memory could screw it up.
I wish i could have been involved in these projects. My poor memory, poor sense of direction, and inability to properly picture things in my head would have led to a proper cursed level. But they'll probably have the whole thing done by the time i get to and beat plutonia. Oh well.
I think having to recreate some of these maps from 20 year-old memories might result in some maps not just being cursed, but completely different, since I'm sure some of the less noteworthy maps in TNT aren't going to have anyone who remotely remembers them. But maybe people are allowed to replay a map once, a month before work on the wad begins?
Map07 Midi is spot on because all I remember of TNT is the massive mess. This remake wad is pretty entertaining though. I don't remember *anything* tangible from TNT so it's 100% brand new content trying to figure anything out. Maybe Habitat will be more interesting boot as well.
Ah, I know how it feels having to lookup stuff with doombuilder. Wish they would implement it into Doom such that if you enter IDDT cheat for 2nd time then it would highlight line actions, teleport destinations and so on like a doom builder when you move mouse over lines. And that similarly to doombuilder it would highlight lines when mouse is on sector.
can't wait for the "x but something is not right but something is not right" turtles all the way down spiral, like a game of telephone or generational loss in video tapes
I'm a weird guy because I remember more maps from TNT than Plutonia. Also I think TNT is overhated, it's very good WAD but not that difficult, so not for hardcore players.

I feel like, to keep the spirit of how people remember the map without making it too difficult to remake it, I'd have it so your allowed to replay the map, but your only allowed to start remaking the map a week later.
30:14 wow propellers start spinning when you start moving!
Map 7 midi sounded like a soundtrack inspired by Going Down wad
3:50 the original had you lower down into an area with red lights, which gave you radiation damage (from the reactor) I believe. This level is _SO_ messed up.
52:00 it is not quite the same (52:00 that trap room was deeper and the entrance was narrower).. but I think that this map is so simple that I don't see how someone with a halfway decent memory could screw it up.
will there be a guest appearance of MtPain27 (dean of doom) for the mount pain map?
The midi recreation was good
The Boys was an awesome map!
I wish i could have been involved in these projects. My poor memory, poor sense of direction, and inability to properly picture things in my head would have led to a proper cursed level. But they'll probably have the whole thing done by the time i get to and beat plutonia. Oh well.
100% agreed that its not nearly as entertaining when the maps are too good
24:35 That Secret Tho!
Map 07 midi was a Sim City 2000 midi
I dont know why i was expecting enemies to respawn, i guess the cursed one on this playthrough is me
"Map07 the way og RE1 duelshock Basement Did"
I also missed that Map 07 secret and I'd never find it. Should really resort to using the editor after like 15+ minutes of looking
Map 7 midi is like a kid pressing random notes and it somehow jams
Legendary midi for MAP07 and I'm honestly not familiar with TNT at all, so I can't tell when the maps are different.
I'm a weird guy because I remember more maps from TNT than Plutonia. Also I think TNT is overhated, it's very good WAD but not that difficult, so not for hardcore players.
Wow imagine map 7 designed around a pistol start lol. Can’t tell you how many times I died to the stupid barrens in the original map 7 when I played.
