I would have loved to see more of the mittens/gloves you mentioned... And what the source is for them, how you went about reconstructing them, etc. And of course, how they perform holding the scutum and gladius...
Holy crap I'm blown away everything I ever wanted to know in living color and I'm just excited that I went I ran across this site it's just really neat I always wondered how they dress for winter and it would be cool to see you make a winter camp and break Winter camp and then do it in the summer I would just like to see how the Roman soldiers lived from point A to point B and how they lived in between
Thank you! We have a lot more in the works. Be sure to check out our website and Facebook page for more information! We also have many public events here in the USA with a full camp set up.
They would most likely wear full armor when in battle, on patrols, guard duty and while marching. They would wear armor on work details while in hostile territory. The rest of the time it is probable they would wear a tunic with, baldric and belt. The winter time they were usually in winter quarters but they would venture out on an as needed basis.
Just remember that most comments will be from "armchair/PC game" Generals, not re-enactors. So, well done for doing this video. Soooo.....When you go back inside with the scuta carrying straps, @ 7.03 re Scuta not hitting legs and being high enough to support the marching pack/impedimenta....good experimental archaeology, I like that. @10.55 with the new suggested carrying system....can I suggest something that is even easier...just reverse the two straps shown so if you pull down on the strap, the buckle releases, one can disengage the Scutum with a rapid effect. Works for me, like I said, its good to such a video experimenting as with ….it does work...or...it does not work. No one can actually say "this is right, that is wrong", we do not know but well done to you and the effort put into this.
Soldier, where is the leather cover for that scutum, where is your extra pilum, where is your furca, why in Patri Marti name is your Lorica segmentata not shined up, I want that lorica so polished you can see your reflection in it. After I want those latrinae so clean Mater Juno would be proud to walk in and take a dump.
Kit Question? what kind of hat are you wearing under the helmet ? I have seen examples of felted wool and knitted caps, but I can't find a pattern or an explanation of what is being used. Great video, can't wait to finish my kit so I too can experiment here in WA state. Leg VI Ferrata COH II

Really enjoyed this video. As reenactors there are a ton of things that we don’t even consider until we try it ourselves. This is great, keep it up
hc8719 thank you, a lot of plans for future videos of this nature.
Great work I love the simplicity of the shield strap. Functional and effective. Thanks for taking the time to research this properly.

I love it so cool. Can I come spend a week end in your camp?
We have a few upcoming events! Where are you from?
I'm here in

I wonder if the romans would not remove their helmets and maybe metal protective gear. when not in battle. As to avoid getting too cold

66kbm thanks for your comments and suggestions. So your suggestion is to flip the strap so the buckle is facing upwards instead of downwards?

Danny it is a naalbinding cap. This type of knitting dates before the first century.
@@legio14gemina66 Tanks, I'm hoping to learn this year. Keep making these videos, so many people don't share outside thier own groups. LEG VI VICTRIX
Thank you, yes there are plenty of videos in the works.
One cannot help but wonder what would happen if a Roman soldier met Bigfoot on the march, it might not end well for Bigfoot. LOL
👍
