      My 25 yr. old Busa is way too powerful for the street and it's all stock. The only way I'd ride one that's got a turbo would be on the drag strip. Like he said in the video, it's no fun tooling around town in second gear or first (up to 90 mph). When I got it I was talking to a friend that's a pro drag racer and he told me my busa has the same HP as his drag bike. I'm going to sell it and clean the carbs and tank of my 700 Interceptor, it's much more enjoyable to ride and still is quick and will hit 155. The Busa is way too easy to do triple digits plus and get into trouble, both with the law and speed.

      Without electronic aids such as ABS and traction control, 80 HP is indeed stupid-fast, but with those aids such 80 hp bikes are now merely "kinda fast but far safer". Interestingly, I looked at bikes with low insurance rates and picked a Suzuki GSXS1000F which Progressive rates as "low risk" with ridiculously low insurance rates. I’ve owned some of the top rides out there. Busa’s, R1s, FZ1, 1200/1250 GS, S1000XR, ZH2, CBR 900RR, CBR 600s, ZZR. I can honestly say some of my most fun and non-scary rides were on the bikes with lower HP. I obviously do like high HP bikes but trying to ride them at even 80% on the road requires, focus, skill, experience and a bit of luck not to eat it or get arrested. This is especially true because I ride for the twisties. 90% of my 1/2 million miles were to nowhere;) I never got a rush like a lot of these knuckleheads on RUclips that weave in and out of traffic on interstates going 175mph+ and actually stupid enough to film it.

    The reason for inline 4s was the lack of sudden torque in racing. There were no driver aids like wheelie control, engine retarding, etc to use going into and coming out of corners. Therefore, torque was a net negative for a rider if it wasn’t gradual like it is in an inline 4 versus today’s “newer” higher torque, lower rev bikes. It’s not speed that people want less of. It’s needing more control while certain people proclaim street riding needs more torque when you already had the answer to that with the inline 4 without electronics. The torque band was purposefully wide and long where the bike is already moving before the pull kicks in. This is much safer for the rider and provides a consistent level of control.

    It goes back to a saying in the car community. You wanna drive a fast car slow? - Or a slow car fast? Who's having more fun? The guy in the Miata who can toss it into twisty roads all day - or the guy in the hellcat red eye who can't use 70 percent of his power unless he wants to catch felony traffic violations or a 'Surprise!' tree that popped up out of thin air?

    • @erenyeager2947
      @erenyeager2947 15 дней назад

      Why not both? That’s the real question. The Miata driver loves flinging that thing around curves, feeling every bump in the pavement and using nearly all of its potential without fear of instantly breaking the sound barrier. Meanwhile, the Hellcat can peel rubber on demand and roar like a beast if you can find a straight stretch long enough to tap its true muscle.
      But here’s the thing having power on reserve isn’t wasted it’s reassuring. You might only use 30% of a Hellcat on your daily commute, yet knowing you’ve got that extra 70% whenever you want it is thrilling in its own right. And if you ever do get to a track, or a deserted back road, you’re set to unleash the beast responsibly.
      At the end of the day, it’s about personal taste in adventure. Some folks want to ring every ounce out of a smaller engine, others want to tame the mighty horsepower lurking under their hood. One approach isn’t better, just different and there’s plenty of fun to be had on either side of the speedometer.
      Also literally just seen a sxt do lose control so u definitely don’t need 1000hp to wrap a tree it’s all about discipline

    • @Gofr5
      @Gofr5 15 дней назад

      @@erenyeager2947 True that. I have a 1290 Super Adventure that 90% of the time is riding pretty tame on the roads, not using much of its power, but when I find an empty stretch of straight road, man does it feel good to let it loose and stretch its legs a little bit. :) The extra reserve power is also nice when I need to get quickly away from annoying dangerous cars that are driving erratically, get around slower traffic faster, or get away from big trucks because.....well never good to be near big trucks.

    • @ara7450
      @ara7450 15 дней назад

      agreed. I've also found that there are a number of very different mindsets about this. Some people just wanna go fast and that's that, so they're always gonna get the faster toy. That's fine, but it's also impractical if you don't actually go fast all the time. I guess it comes down to the priorities of the individual. Personally I cannot see the point in a liter bike (or a Hellcat) but I am also someone who enjoys motorcycling for the feel rather than just the speed so that makes sense.

    • @Gofr5
      @Gofr5 15 дней назад

      @@ara7450 Oh ya for sure. Though having a bigger more powerful engine I don't think is a complete waste, even if you are not maxing it out. Taking my 1290 SAS for example, I usually ride with the RPMs pretty low in the 3000-3500 range for the better fuel economy, but if you look at torque and power curves at 3500rpm, it's still putting out ~50hp and ~80ftlbs of torque at the wheel. Now that's not a whole lot (for hp anyway), but compare for example to my previous bike, the husky 701, which is considered still a pretty punchy bike and has peak figures around ~72hp. That bike liked to rev more and I always rode it 1000RPM higher than my 1290 at 4000-4500 RPM. Looking at curves for 4500 RPM, it puts out ~28hp and ~33ftlbs at the wheel .That's nearly half the hp and less than half the torque my 1290 is giving me, all the while the 1290 is also doing it at 1000 RPM less (meaning if I took it to match at 4500, it'd be further outpacing the smaller 701).
      My point is, a lot of people see bigger engines and only look at peak figures, then either gooch themselves at the numbers or say "what's the point?" when they realise they won't actually use it. A lot of people miss looking at the bigger picture (the power and torque curves) and fail to realise that it isn't about maxing out the power figures at their peak values, but having more power and torque available throughout the entire rev range, including most importantly, at the lower revs where most street riding is done. Yeah I'm almost never pumping out the full 160 ponies of my 1290, but I am pumping out 50-60 just casually zipping around at a leisurely 3500-4000rpm in my normal riding as compared to a smaller mid size bike's 30-40. Even more so for torque, at least with this engine. I would say the benefits are most felt on the street with that massive torque gain than the hp gain.
      Anyway, you're not wrong. I do agree with the sentiment that 70hp-100hp is a good place to be and more is not needed. My 701 got around just fine everywhere I went. I'm just merely pointing out that having a bigger engine that can peak higher, but isn't being used that way isn't still a waste as you do still gain benefits across the rev range regardless of how aggressive or docile you are being with the bike vs. a smaller bike, is all. Though admittedly much of that does depend on engine configuration. A parallel twin or v-twin as is this case, will yield different results than an inline 4, for example.

Of course not, but my right hand easily controls how much of it that I need. It’s just the satisfaction of what the bike is that thrills. I remember being wary of the horsepower that my Honda Rc51 made when I first bought it, my Buell X1, or CBR 600f3. I’ve taking them all to the track, but wouldn’t never push them to their limits, I have race bikes for that, crf250s and sv650s, that I use for that. I own two bikes, both have about 75 HP, the first is a 2005 Ducati Monster S2R 800, the second is a 2008 BMW F650 GS Twin. I drove my Ducati during last years vacation almost 3800km all over Germany, without one mile on the Autobahn, twisty roads are much more fun. After this trip spending up to 8 hours a day in the saddle averaging 50kmh, my conclusion was, its doable but I'm to old (almost 60) for this kind of torture.
    So when a nice little BMW F650GS (having the twin cilinder 800cc Rotax engine) showed up on Ebay Kleinanzeigen (Our version of craigslist) in the village next to us, I had to buy. With about the same power as the Ducati for me it is about as fast as the Duc but the riding is completly different, no more back pains, just comfort and the ability to do some gravel roads to. I'll never sell the Ducati because it is my dream bike, will take her out on shorter rides, for vacations and longer trips I sure will take the BMW. Of course I tried the top speed on the Ducati, but I stopped a around 195kmh (about 120mph), because it didn't felt like fun anymore on a naked bike. For me something under/around 100 HP fits the bill.

    Even on the 400 i could do illegal speeds in 3rd gear and keep up with the big boys in the twisties.
    The VFR V4 was nice and torqy down low for some touring and fast enough if you dropped a few, to carve some corners.
    Everything above 60hp is fun and you don't need more than 80 to keep it that way.
    Everything above 100hp is overkill..
    I've seen the R1 coming, selling like hot cakes and be back on the showroom floor a few weeks later, with barely 1000 kilometers on the clock.
    To be followed by the Blackbird, the Hayabusa and the ZX14, that was capped at 299 kph, to keep it safe.
    I have called those bikes madness and i still do.

Before getting that a rode a 48hp naked bike since i didnt have the permission for the bigger bikes yet. And let me tell you, most of the time more horse power simply means more fun. It just is what it is. Then you also have the incredible sound that no other type of motorcycles could ever get close to. Of course its not the most convenient bike to ride and if you just want to drive to work or in a straight line then the motorcycle might just not be for you. But if you know how to ride it i cant Imagine having more fun on any other motorcycle.. Also when you have a powerfull bike even the straights are fun when you kind wind out that kind of power its a different kind of adrenaline pump you get than what a naked bike like yours could ever deliver. No hate. And no i wouldnt want my bike to have less power as due to the great electronics it doesnt feel unrideable in any way shape or form. Even on the streets.

Then my R1 2010 with 182hp. I've had absolute fun on all these motorcycles. Rode my R1 for hours without any back issues or wrists. I don't think they've gotten too crazy with BHP. Maybe the HP at the crank says 200+ but the BHP is probably closer to the 150+ range. Either way, I enjoy cruising these faster Moto's. 👊🤘😎

    Last May I bought a GSX-8R. Max hp = 73, max torque = 52. For me it’s a very fun motorcycle. First, it weighs 452 lbs, meaning the engine has less to push. Second, 90% of the torque arrives below 5000 rpm, making it very user friendly. Since my previous bike was a Honda VFR800 with that incredible V-4 engine producing 105 hp I thought I’d be disappointed with the Suzuki. But it’s anything but - if anything, although I loved the VFR, the GSX-8R is even more fun.

    I agree with what you say. I have a s1000r i got in 2018 and its been moving further back in the garage as even its 160bhp or whatever it is, is really too much for the road. Anywhere from 80-120(depending on engine configuration and torque)i think is perfect for fast fun road riding. Its not possible to fully wring the s1000r neck on the road much.

    If you want to have fun on a bike, look to the torque figures more than outright HP. You'll find you are more comfortable and quicker in real road use.
    Well done yammynoob for talking some sense.

    I thoroughly enjoy the M1000R. That being said at 61% of the power you can have more fun on a Street Triple. The M1000R Competition weighs almost the same as the Street Triple.

      Makes sense it costs over twice as much. Yet lap times wouldn’t be half. Maybe 1.5 seconds back for $12k and bragging rights is what people are really paying for usually

    • @RadDadisRad
      @RadDadisRad 15 дней назад

      @@danieldoyle253 the speed at which it accelerates above 90mph is very noticeable. So high speed sweepers the M is by far and away the better bike because it gets to speed and holds speed. If you are under 120mph the Street Triple is rips the M because it isn’t as rough on tires and is better on fuel.

    Yammy, you should try the older 2000's Triumph Sprint RS 955i.
    It's a "litre" bike but with manageable power and great street drivability and comfortable as heck.

    Now that it’s 2025 I’ve been riding 50 years!! I had a Yamaha 1100 and an XL 500 in the 80’s as a teenager and now at 55 I have a GasGas 700 and a Ducati Streetfighter V2 (and have been testing V4’s). This is nothing new Young Man Yam! Being free is being fast and in the right hands a litre bike makes life tolerable!! Haha

    I'm a big guy, putting my butt on an SV650 would look like a gorilla riding a football. I have to ride a big bike so it doesn't feel like a bicycle, and so I don't look ridiculous. That being said I sacrifice a lot of handling because of it. Current ride is a new Z H2, the size is perfect the power is beyond anything I can use and it's twitchy as hell. Why Kawa didn't put a steering stabilizer on it I don't understand. But it takes that big a bike for me to be comfortable.

    After getting a GS (1200) even liter bikes feel like scooters now
    The thing pops a power wheelie in 1st gear at 2000 RPM
    The thing that makes the bike so fun to ride is the insane amount of torque at all the time (around 100nm at 5k) and max rpm at 9k
    I've done 100mph in first gear on a s1000rr and it felt slow at first and very fast at the end, something that you don't want and need on the street

    23 gsx-s750z 2wheelsdynoworks tuned and -1/+4 sprockets. it makes 100hp @ 10k rpm and 55lbs/ft @ 9krpm TO THE WHEEL. it's a brilliant smooth power delivery, beautiful intake, deep grunt to powerful high rev scream exhaust sound/notes, robust and sexy design with the legendary k5 gsxr based engine and chassis make it the most desirable bike in its class.... except everyone ignored it and got the mt09 hooligan wheelie machine.

    I have about 140 horses on my early 2000's 1050 speed triple It's absolutely enough for street even in track it's enough. On track sure could be more but I don't race. I do track only to become better on street and I don't have to squid so much on street. Because as Yammie said in some very very old video on 7 something something riders you'll meet "Life is not behind the corner it is the corner" and realistically you have way more fun on around 100 horses on a twisty road

    My ninja 400 is not the most powerful thing out there, but its really fun to open it up and ride it to its limit sometimes, even if the limit doesn't seem that great to some. Most people cant ride a powerful bike to its limit, only due to the lack of ability of the rider. Get a bike you can push to the limit of your ability I am sure you'll have more fun.

    @Yammie Noob youre right. but theres also another perspective, price. modern bikes cost an insane amount. in my local currency a ducati would cost around 2 mil. thats more expensive than a house. if i had the money i sure would buy one. for the passion. even a new kawasaki zx25rr is like 500k. you could get a proper car for that price. me, id choose the bike because thats what i like. but any random person would choose the car. thats why in my country having a 250 is seen as owning a beast of a motorcycle. thats why liter bikes are dying. the price. admit it if you could choose between a s1000 and a 300, youd choose the s1k any day. if only you could. that what the market needs bikes that are accessible. things that wont cost you 10 years of life savings. admit it, the screams of a four cylinder liter bike will send chills through you too bad affording one is so hard. respect.

    I've been riding here is Scotland for for 26 years. I've never been on track, but I have seen 160+mph on the speedo a few times, and honestly, theres no point. After many faster bikes, and with the bugetary constraints of a mortgage and kids, I find myself owning an 18 year old Ninja 650, and I fckin love it! It's fast enough to overtake anything on my local moutain roads with ease, and it's midrange punch is way better for the road than the high end power 600 supersport I used to own.

    I am happy to ride with 56hp motorcycle, and i can have much more fun with much less pressure than if i had over 100hp. I sometimes think that i should upgrade to something around 70-80hp, but then again my fun is to have machine that gives me plenty of options to correct my own and mistakes of others without much pressure. Not to have machine where without electronics i would need to stress out ecery second about yhe amount of power that i should use to be reasonably safe.

    That's why I own a 650 and a 1000. 650 can be used for anything and still be enjoyable. The 1000 is when you just want to open up on some back roads or at a track. I live in ohio. There are some way out there roads you can ride on where zero people go, and you can really just fly. I'll admit I love my 650. The main reason I got my 1000 was for a cruise control being bmw s1000rr plus it was always my dream bike.

    Torque > HP
    My 1st gen MT-03 (660cc 1 cylinder) only makes 48hp but it also makes 58Nm (43ft-lbs) stock which makes it loads of fun to ride (and some simple performance mods really makes it a lot better as well). 80% of my riding is on twisty back roads with not the best roads (gravel, dirt, etc. from farmers) so it consists mainly of accelerating and braking and that's where that torque is so much fun.
    I did my lessons on a MT-07 (we have mandatory riding lessons) and I wouldn't say that MT-07 was much more fun than my MT-03.
    At the end of the day, you're riding to have fun. Constantly going through the gears is part of which makes it fun. On my roads, a 1000 would 80% of the time be in first gear.
    Only long highway riding is where it's struggling but it's a big thumper coming from a supermoto, it wasn't meant for that.

    Spite’s recent video of the CB-1000R did very well. I think more people are starting to realize that less is more, especially when it comes to riding on the street. That 140hp is plenty and more than you would ever need. Im sure it will last 100k miles as well
