Butzemann and Charming of the Plow 2024

I'm grateful to be able to celebrate all of these things with amazing friends. Hopefully our little community grows even bigger this year. Dísablót is a time to honor the women in our lives, our female ancestors, mentors, and which ever goddesses or female spirits you may believe in. Charming of the Plow is an old Germanic folk custom where people bless their gardening and farming tools for the coming season. Sometimes baked goods were buried on the property as an offering to the land and land spirits. The Butzemann is a Pennsylvania German Urglaawe tradition. It's like a magical scarecrow that is meant to serve as a protective ward for your garden and home.
I am leaving for South Dakota in a few days, so Dísablót, Charming of the Plow, and the Butzemann all had to be done in the same day. Typically I'd want to spread these different ceremonies out over a longer timeframe, but time was not on our side. I feel like the whole thing was very awkward, but I know if I keep practicing, the ceremonies will get better and feel more natural. I wasn't raised with European Pagan spiritual culture, so it's all new to me. It's become another aspect of who I am as a person. I am no less of a native for adding more tools to my spiritual toolkit to take care of myself, my family, and my community. I am mixed blood and multicultural. It's who I am.
