Bottom line. This band ( all of them) made great music for all of us. Richie will be missed. He did it his way. Right or wrong doesn't matter. The band will go on. Being a dad myself now, I can totally relate to Richie's decision. Of course, you can do that if you have enough money to survive the rest of your life, which he has. But if you child needs you, you are there.
Jon is so classy and he's always said BON JOVI is FAMILY and as a true Italian family they do not air dirty laundry in public. Whatever happened/didnt happen between Jon and Richie will sort itself out in time. These men are like brothers, soon they will start missing each other and be back together. The uniqueness of bon jovi band's music was from Richie's compositions. bon jovi is a good vocalist but richie has given the band its position. there are many talented vocalists, guitarists and drummers. but very few great songwriter and composer.
Who wrote their hits Runaway, Dry County, bed of Roses, always, blaze of glory..? Most of other songs were co-written...

I love how everyone can sit hear and say they hate Richie for leaving and I get that but just be glad they made the records they did the were amazing together and let’s face it it will never be the same without him but he left because he wanted to spend more time with his kids it’s a valid reason yes it was un professional but leave it because it’s either Richie saying he wants to come back and Jon says he’s always welcome so there’s still hope x

I loved Richie more just because he had the courage to leave. Jon has always been jealous about his talent, so can't understand why the band hasn't yet produced at least 3 or 4 albums since 2013.

I've read these post new and old for a time now and it amazes me how many people 'don't know', Bon Jovi was always 'Jon's band', from day one!! Richie joined up with he and David first, then Tico..etc. So, think about it that way, because that is reality!! It was never Richie's band, nor did he create it, he 'joined it' !! He started whining after about 9-10yrs.or so, so Jon made him a 'founding member' !! Runaway was Jon all by himself with a studio band, it was a hit and 'Jon' formed a band. It is and always has been 'his band', so he wants perfection (for the fans) and the band members to show up for work !! Why is that so ...'horrible'? It also wasn't what Richie did, it was how he did it. If he wanted to stay home he shouldn't have made the commitment to tour, simple as that !! He should have never just, 'not shown up' one night at the last minute !! I felt so bad for the fans in Calgary, (and the rest of the band!!) not only was it last minute, it was so late they had to go on without a guitarist at all !! I've heard Richie say at least 5 different excuses !! He hasn't been with his daughter very much either!! He's on tour...huh? Oh and he's with Orianthi, she's a 20 something guitarist,and has also had her own albums, she's very good. I wish Richie well, but I'm not giving him a free pass for taking fans money and not showing up !! He was paid (a LOT) for an entire half of that tour and he wasn't even there!! He was so wishy washy as to whether he'd be back or not, he 'was paid' until Jon just had to say enough is enough !! It was also the 30 yr. mark, how dedicated!! He could/should have finished the tour 'he' signed up for, then did his own thing. To me, that speaks volumes as to how he really feels about 'his fans'. I wish him well, but he didn't do this the right way, plain and simple.
I'll always consider Richie as Jon's superior talent wise but after reading this info I gotta say he did indeed pull a huge dick move on his and the bands fans. As for his being wishy washy about whether he'll return to the band or not I think he needs to make up his damn mind already either he just needs a break from the band or he's leaving them altogether (which to me wouldn't be such a bad thing for him) but he needs to either shit or get off the pot. In other words alcohol & substance abuse.Phil X came in and learned all the songs in 2 days,played his butt off & saved the tour!What happend?The fangirls were crying out,''we want Richie,come back!'' So Jon took him back,big surprise: he bailed again,Phil X had to replace him a second time & he has the nerve to trashtalk on Jon and the band! ''A Bon Jovi-concert without me,is like a Rolling Stones gig,without Keith Richards.'',can you believe this guy?!BTW:Keith Richards never bailed on his band in over 50 years!
Another thing I really don't get,is why Orianthi left A.Cooper,put her solo-career on hold and is wasting her time & imense talent with this loser.Have you seen the live-videos with them?He's totally drunk,sings out of key,messes up the solos and looks literally like a hobo.She on the other hand is singing & playing the guitar like a goddess,which is no wonder,she's a total pro(A.Cooper said she's one of the best musicians,he worked in his career).He's also exploiting her positive,''clean'' image in order to get better press and is tapping into her fanbase.
I really don't know what's more puzzling,the fact that she's so naive,let's him exploit her & ruining her credibillity/career or that some of the fans want him actually back in the band,after all the crap he did?!

ok 1st off he did tell jon he didn't want to start that tour yet, but jon insisted. he has still spent plenty of time with his kid. see the thing is when you tour with BJ its a constant non stop 14 months, when you do what richie is doing now it is 2-3 week cycles which leaves plenty of family time..and btw its boy jbj that takes your money. he wouldn't even cancel a few shows while tico was in the hospital, wow that left a whole 2 members of the band to play.but hey to each his own

I was there at that final concert in Brisbane. Fucking awesome show, even if there was a HUGE hole in the stage..... Jon and the boys put on a hell of a show for that final show of the world tour!! Too bad it was Brisbane and not all of the Sydney shows.... Brisbane sucks, Sydney audiences are fucking amazing.
Best live version of Prayer I have seen in decades, too. 80,000+ people belting out the lyrics at the beginning acapela part... Jon's genuine, heartfelt smile said it all. The crowd took over and just kept going. Goosebumps remembering it now.

What Richie did was unprofessional. He simply put his fans down. That's one thing Jon would never EVER do. And how I know? He keeps on hammering his voice during live shows, just to play as much of his old songs as fans want to. Jon Bon Jovi, the real definition of rockstar!
Jon is an absolute professional - trough and through. He has an incredible work ethic. Plus he is a very sharp businessman that won't let anyone screw with his company. Sambora on the other hand is a good song writer, great guitarist and was a good counterpart to Jon, but all those years of hard work and still partying just have worn him out. And it shows!

@Johnny Dong he didn't show up to a concert. That's what is unprofessional. If he wanted out, it was bad timing and should've given jon head notice to he can prepare for that. Not just not show up when you got a million fans waiting to see you.

I was referring too the TOTALLY unprofessional way Richie just left. After 30+ years he owned Jon AT THE VERY LEAST A PERSONAL CALL and time to prepare.
When you're with a successful band, you have a responsibility to remain with them. Your band mates rely on that continuity, and the ones who gave you everything you've got, the fans deserve it. Peter Cetera comes to mind also.
Richie did it for 30 years! That’s long enough for anyone. Usually anyone who works for a company for that long retires. Why does everyone think it’s so different for him??? He is human just like the rest of us. He made it known he was ready to slow down some but Jon wouldn’t listen to him. Richie was already in his 50’s when he left. He was tired of the being gone for 18 months at a time. Let’s see some of y’all who are complaining do that and see how you feel.

@@ferox965 being in a band shouldn’t require you to do 2 back to back 16 month tours either. They need time off just like you do. As Richie and Jon have both said you don’t even get days off. They wrote, recorded, produced albums, did interviews and it was non stop. No human should be expected to do that especially back to back!!

I think Jon said it all when he called it a machine. I have heard that Jon can be difficult to work with, its basically his way or no way. Honestly, I am surprised Ritchie has lasted as long in the band as he has. I mean he is a super talented guy outside of being a guitarist but I think they just make each other better. Bon Jovi certainly is never going to find a better guitarist for the band than Ritchie that's for sure!

@@CB394 Sambora is a very underrated guitarist. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and many others probably can't play Flight of the Bumblebee, either. Playing FOR THE SONG is what a true musician does, and no one cares about who can play the fastest 16th or 64th notes. Only guitar masturbation dorks worry about that stuff.
Not only did Richie bring great guitar playing and songwriting to the band, he also brought a singing voice that is better than Jon Bongiovi's. Jon and Richie's vocal harmonies were excellent.
I don't understand why people overlook Sambora's huge contributions to that band.

Bon Jovi is currently volunteering as a dishwasher to help feed the hungry.
He's a Rock Star but he gives back. It's also good to see him back up his old friend and not throw him under the bus, in spite of Sambora leaving the band high and dry during a show. (We've all had our own moments like Sambora so there's no reason to throw stones. He needs to get himself happy again. And being a father was what was important to him at that time. )
Actually he's (sometimes) washing dishes in his and his wife's restaurant that caters to the less fortunate. I think he's an awesome guy.

Personally, I think it would be better if the media would stop acting like crows and let them settle this in private. Being harassed that way is not helping. It just fuels the situation even more. Jon and Richie have been best friends for more than 30 years, they shared everything on stage and behind it. They are both now in their 50s, Richie wants to explore his own way, he's an adult he's free to do what he wants. On his hand, Jon is keeping with his band with Phil and John Shanks as brand new addition. They are doing great so we should just leave them alone. If Richie wants to be back with the boys, he's the only one who should make the move. Our job as fans is to support them whatever it's gonna be.

WIthout richie, the band has no more music level in his compositions and in the arrengments. He is/was the MUSIC on the band. Jon knows how to write lyrics too, but THE MUSIC , the good one... comes from Richie. i know it or sure. I kno a friend of the band ... so long >!

Yes he wanted to spent time with his Family and his Girlfriend but also he couldn´t live his musical spirit in this Band anymore. Bon Jovi changed on there musical way and when you have to play the same style over and over again and didn´t get the space for improvisation you want to quit and thats totaly fine. It´s better than trying to get as much money with an old concept you don´t like.

I thought that book was written by Jon, and if all that was true, and I'm not saying it wasn't, why did they all stay together for so long? Jon and Richie wrote some great hits together, why would he settle for so many years on such a small percentage. I don't know I just don't get greed anyway. Sure I know even a rock band is a business, it should also be a brotherhood, a very strong bond. I know even families break up, and don't speak to each other over money, but damn if you made money together at least share the shit. Well that's my opinion anyway, I think Phil is doing a great job filling Richie's shoes, but it would be nice to see them do a reunion show just once before I croak.
i wouldn't have trusted the EX manager only since he's an ex, meaning him having grudges against bon jovi. LOT of reporters (or whatever those people interviewing on backstage doing) said that Jon was always full of himself, i mean, literally full of himself. They saw him suddenly gave an autograph, bouncing around (yes, bouncing up and down), and not even pay attention about the others.
secondly, why richie stuck together.. well, it's not like richie can stand on his own if he was not jon's guitarist. there are joe satriani, steve vai, etc. if he wanted to compete all alone. so MAYBE that's why. besides, 1% of 200 MILLION dollars has reached 2M anyway. and they made it per year from LIVE PERFORMANCE, not to mention about the album loyalty. if you're not greedy enough.. well 2-5million dollars per year should be enough.
i don't know about phil x. has never seen their performances ever since richie left. there're no more "richie!" before the solo. and i don't think richie will ever want to be on same stage as phil. speaking of skill, phil plays with skill, richie with soul.
Andre Gunadi Richie has a great voice, and did do a solo cd even when he was still a member of the band. I agree why would he want to be on the same stage with Phil, but you can't blame Phil for taking the job. Okay so we do agree that even 1% adds up to a lot of money. I haven't seen Phil play live, but I have seen videos here on youtube that show Phil, and he is very good. As far as Jon being full of himself, it doesn't surprise me, but confidence can also be betrayed as being full of himself.
Yes on your last point I agree also, Richie does play with soul, and I will also add with passion and heart. His leaving was a big surprise to me, I really didn't see that coming, but he did admit on the news a few days ago, that he did have to go to rehab for doing drugs again. At least Jon didn't give that away saying he left for "personal reasons." The last time Richie couldn't do concerts was a bad time with his dad dying, but they weren't touring at that time. However, what Jon said could have been that perhaps God forbid Richie's mom was sick, or something was going on with his daughter. So I do give Jon credit for not just blurting it out. Whatever we could go on and on about this, but I still like the old music, the new songs can't come close to the way the others came across.
I'm still s fan of Bon Jovi, and I still love Richie and wish him the best. After all is said and done all of this is not putting money in anyone's pocket, except when we, the fans buy their cd's and they profit from it.

Also his ''I wanna be recognised as a solo artist without beeing held back by Bon Jovi'' is total BS.Watch his live gigs with Orianthi.2/3 of the setlist are Bon Jovi hits,2-3 solo songs and when he's ''allowing'' her to play one of her own songs,she makes him look like an amateur(which is no wonder,this girls was playing with guys like S.Vai & C.Santana).Btw:he's clearly drinking again & a total mess on stage.All the reviews,state that he does a poor job and instead they are praising Orianthi for her vocals/guitarplaying.When this insanly talented but sadly naive girl realises,that he's using her to sell tickes & dumps his old,drunk arse,nobody will show up to his concerts,mark my words!
