I actually cut mine in half closer to the spline but on the larger part of the shaft. Sniped an inch out. Tapered it and welded them back using angle iron to keep it straight. On my other axle that is. This axle I had laying in the yard that was done my a company somewhere around russleville arkansas. Not sure where. But they just cut the end off and Resplined it.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding a detailed "how-to" on axle shortening. How do you shorten the axle shafts themselves?
