Look I enjoy my gaming laptop and need it for rendering/CAD modeling. But if I can get an ipad pro, the keyboard and pen attachment and use it as a mini take on the go laptop that I use for client meetups and light photoshop that'd great. The iPad is also often used for musicians to hold digital scores. You don’t need to carry around boxes of papers, it’s backlit for dark stages and it doesn’t blow away in the wind. Then if you already need an iPad for that it also just becomes your everyday computer because most of the things you do on a computer is word and maybe excel. The iPad is really fits a lot of use cases really well.

I have a laptop, a desktop, an android phone, a nintendo switch, and an ipad. As powerful as the ipad chip is, I found myself picking up the ipad fairly infrequently. When I game at home, I'm on my desktop. If I need to do something quick or check social media, picking out my phone from my pocket is much easier. Want a quick round of mobile gaming? Just use my phone. Need to go on a meeting, or need to travel? My notebook covers my needs. Wanna game with my kids? Nintendo switch. So in the end, I don't really have a reason to pick up the ipad, and thus it is getting less usage each day.

iPads are great for construction on site computing because of their relatively slim profile you can have a really bulky case on it with no issue, easy to train older gentlemen, numbers on iPad is easier on learn than excel on pc,and the big reason, I dropped my iPad Pro 12.9 from 26ft tall roof onto concrete and it was just dented. Been running a electrical company off of iPad os for a while now. My laptop seems almost obsolete, with the exception being that mouse support is amazing on windows and mouse hotkeys and customizable numpad hotkeys are a must have for bidding large projects.
Also the reason i bought the 12.9 pro was for 2 reasons, the screen is the same size as a sheet of paper which i find to be pretty cool. Secondly its great for watching sports while at work.

I've gotten rid of my laptop for a Galaxy Tab S7. Samsung DEX provides a very usable desktop experience. When I work, I have to use VMware to connect to a company server anyway, so I don't have to worry about the limited capabilities of android apps vs. windows apps. After I'm done with work, I close out of the VMware app and rip out the display fromt the keyboard and open an emulator and connect a bluetooth controller and play real games. I read a lot of news and manga, the tablet form factor is great for reading. Best of all, my tablet has a super bright 120hz display and 10+ hrs of battery life. No laptop can match that at ~$600. Also, tablets are lighter than laptops and more durable. I can throw my tablet on my bed with no problem. If I did that with a laptop, it would die.

People seem to forget that iOS is literally MacOS turned into a touch friendly OS. MacOS on an iPad would be a terrible experience just like windows is. What the iPad needs is Pro App compatibility and probably some OS improvements in file management and multitasking. Having the M1, developers should pretty much be able to focus on just making their apps around a touch interfase, which is what Apple seems to be trying to achieve and we’ll probably get some big software announcements around it in WWDC soon (hoping someone like auto desks figures out a good way to make a 3D modeling app for touch, or ZBrush would be pretty insane on an iPad)

The chin is probably there for branding reasons (both in calling back to the previous iMacs and for marketing its thinness), but my major frustration is that it would have been a perfect opportunity to make the iMac modular. Imagine the chin were held on by a series of screws on the back + some magnets or adhesive and could be easily removed and swapped by the user. It seems almost tailor made for that with how all the computing aspects - including the cooling - are tucked into it with the display portion seemingly only having monitor-based components + mic/webcam. It would have been a great (for Apple) compromise on repairability in enabling that basic feature of being able to upgrade your computer separate from your monitor. But they just didn't. They went through all the work of cramming everything into the chin only to not make it swappable as part of their user-/environmentally-hostile insistence on tying the display to the computer like on phones, tablets, and laptops.

It also has native support for audio interfaces, and I found a utility a couple days ago which let the iPad act as a display for a proper computer. Ultimately, I think tablets are great at a couple things (notetaking and drawing), passable at quite a few things, but far from a mandatory device. Maybe the new iPad Pro will awaken some niche market that really utilizes the form factor in a way a normal computer can't be used, but for most work I use my computer.

    - if I m going for a presentation for school, I can access my powerpoint / my text verry easily, even a minute before the presentation. I don't have to go, seat, put my laptop on table.

Apple stopped ‘letting’ users use their old iMacs as a display because that became an obstacle in front of them when they wanted to give the 27” iMac a 5K display. The Intel chip didn’t support that kind of thing. And now the 24” iMac probably won’t support it either because the M1 can’t support it either, it had something to do with the timing controllers and the bandwidth that is allocated to the display as far as I can remember. This would be also why the 3 USB-C ports apart from the 1 Thunderbolt 3 port behind the Pro Display XDR with which you connect your display to your Mac supports not higher than just USB 2.0 speeds.

As a professional IT guy, I agree with Luke, I don't use nor need tablets as a device category, nevermind the quality, but I know a lot of people and even businesses that have no longer got laptops or desktops, but solely use iPads and iPhones. As a matter of fact I'm somewhat active in local scale politics and the complete legislative system is solely based on iPad apps. You cannot access anything any other way. And for reviewing documents, sending mails, messaging people to discuss initiatives, even presenting if your environment is setup for that, etc. it actually works pretty well, particularly as the people in question would be out of their depth to even clean up their desktop from clutter, nevermind do anything productive on a real computer or attach a monitor to the right port. Dito the same reasons for people who are using computers 100% for content consumption. Why should they have a Mac or Windows PC, if they can also just stream on their tablet or use it to control or even display on their TV, as well as going mobile with it, when sitting in the garden, in bed or during comute.

Macbooks don’t have external ‘power’ bricks, they have external ‘charging’ bricks. Apple makes Macbooks in a way that they can hit their max performance without needing to be plugged in (and you might say “that means they aren’t running those machines as fast as they could then”, not really, because performance doesn’t scale linearly with more power being thrown at the same silicon for a higher clock speed, because higher clock speed equals exponentially higher power drawn. That’s why we’re seeing the i9-11900K draw +400W when all of its Turbo Boost limits are lifted off while a Ryzen 9 5950X draws ~250W). Their ‘power supply’ is the battery and the battery only.
