This was a really awesome switch-up for the bts. It was really fascinating to learn the stories and crazy things that happened whilst you guys were filming, like how both of you guys almost got detained and how each of you feel about letting someone else edit the footage that you shot. Also, I'm excited to see that the office is making progress, so far it looks really good! :)
I was in London in fall last year, on my senior-year class trip. I used an old Leica Mini-Tripod (folded lengh about 8 inches) as a handle on my DSLR. On the very last day, in the War-Museum, I needed to swap the batteries so I unfolded the tripod (just "spreading" it, without pulling out the legs) and set the camera down on it. Some quite intimidating security (I guess) guy was behind me immediately. Took me fifteen minutes to explain that I don't use a tripod to "set up" the camera, and that, in fact, it's not forbidden in the museum to have a short handle on the camera, which was all I use the thing for. I have to say, though, that anywhere else I've been in the world, they didn't care about any sort of equipment.
This was a really cool style of behind the scenes! I always love all your behind the scenes videos that are filmed as you are out in the field but this format was also very cool since you get to tell stories of events that you weren't able to capture on camera and you share different techniques! I really enjoyed this and I am a big fan of all your work! Thank you for all the hard work you guys do!
Airport security is no joke... I was a part of a musical ambassadors group that went on tour in Europe and I got to bag check the percussion mallet/accessory bag when leaving Germany which happened to have a pair of finger cymbals in it... I have never seen two round objects show up that bright on any metal detector... I was lucky though and didn't get pulled aside or anything. I did have to give the officer at the detector a demonstration though.
Amazing to see how much trouble it is to film in London... it is just ridiculous. I want to go shoot there one day too, hopefully maybe someday they will be less trouble than now. Thank you guys for making an amazing effort to make this videos happen. Devin didn't say anything about if he had trouble running around with the glidecam at all?
It's only really trouble if you don't have the right permits. I've seen film crews all over the place filming various things much more complicated than time lapses. But they get the bother to get the permits.
+Alex Jones according to this they shouldn't be bothering at all: When you don't need permission to film If you are a small crew - five people or fewer - using a handheld camera and your filming will not cause an obstruction then there is no restriction to filming on London’s public highway. In some boroughs this also extends to small crews with a tripod. No licence or any form of official permission is required.
+EduarFilms yeah. So the keywords there are 'handheld' and 'not causing an obstruction', using a tripod or resting it on a bag both technically aren't handheld and both have the potential to cause an obstruction. It's super annoying, but especially in summer, Central London's a busy place and they get really anal about it. It's also worth noting that a lot of the landmarks are property of the crown and not a highway (e.g. Trafalgar sq., Leicester Sq, the South Bank) and so have different rules. It's a massive pain in the arse. But I guess it all boils down to common sense. Don't be shady and don't block the flow of people and I guess you'll be ok.
+EduarFilms If I'd had to guess, Carter did something "methodical" and at certain places for a long time. The computer vision system, maybe with facial recognition even, would flag this person as "suspicious" and alert the cops who then see all these vids of him in various scouting spots. The've been pumping lots of $ into stuff like this since 9/11. If you registered beforehand, they would know you. If you were a tourist, you wouldn't normally act like the Japanese who scouted Pearl Harbor with suitcase cameras. XD
the interesting thing here is that among the most popular cities in Europe is also Venice, and I went there a few months ago and filmed with my glidecam, made timelapses and everything all over the place and not a single soul told me anything. No cops around or anything. Also in Berlin I didn't see anyone saying anything.
I love this behind scenes videos. Can you guys make a technical video sometime about this time lapses. Like when you were talking about the exposure or the time frame between shots. I love to hear your experience in this topic. Thanks guys
That's a funny story about the tube, you have to be as low profile as possible if you do anything! There's a smaller train around London called the DLR.. They're usually more accepting than the regular tube and is does go underground so you can get the same look
Hey Devin, When can we see a video of all your camera gear on why you use it for certain situations an in depth video would be nice. reasons why you use your 5D MARK III, 1DC or Red for different situations including the different lenses you use too. also a time-lapse tutorial from Carter or yourself would be nice. Thanks.
Blimey. Sorry you both had those experiences, Devin. Only in London, eh? On the bright side, you have some very interesting stories to share with the world!
This was great info guys! Can you talk about sound, and more specifically, music. I've been experimenting with vlogging (poorly) and one thing I'm finding is that it's hard to find good music to use for free and to have enough of it that you're not duplicating music from one video to another. Any tips on where to go? Thanks.
A way to get around the whole no tripod thing is to use a monopod, and rest it on your foot, its technically not on the ground of the property so they can't do anything!
+Tom DownieMedia I'm not a fan of twixtar, with slow mo past a certain rate it warps the image a ton and looks horrible, you can get a little bit of slow mo that looks clean but its a hassle. id rather shoot at 60 fps and convert to 24 for a nice clean slow mo. at least that's good good for what I do.
Hi Devin! How do you always keep such a positive mood/how are you so positive? For examle - that wake up scaring. I would've really annoyed and angry ar others :( Cheers
Filming in London - filmlondon.org.uk/get-permission-film "Whatever location you are using, no matter how public it seems, it is likely you'll need to notify or get permission from somebody. The impact of failing to inform relevant authorities could result in unnecessary police resources being deployed."
You'd hardly be filming time-lapse shots to scout out potential terror attack sites. If there was a braincell between the members of our security services, they'd be dangerous.
lol you guys think London is amazing? ffffft Historically yes but these days.... meh. It's fun no doubt, but wouldn't call it amazing. Especially when the first thing a stranger ever says to you on your first day there is "move you fackin plam" >.> go check out the English Countryside instead guys.
Thanks for the shoutout boyyzzz!
Good job with the editing! Looked amazing!
+Williamson Productionz yes i aprrouved

The DevinSuperTramp video was so well formatted and the city just looked incredible in 4K!!!
Excellent Job you guys! Keep up the good work!
I love the time lapse and slow motion using together, it have a good contrast.
One of my inspirations to kickstart my filmmaking journey! :)
You mean it was DEVINstating.
I'll see myself out.....
+Nathan Walborn at least you tried... :D
+Nathan Walborn i was just about yo say the same thing lol
Carter, your video gave me the motivation to shoot a timelapse of my own city man. Thank you so much!
What an insane story! I just wish that could be captured in video!

i always love these behind the scenes
Great video..... always love the BTS...
Have a great one you all..

Awesome video guys. Not very many people out there that have your kind of determination.

Love your t-shirt, Devin....... YOSHI !!!
It was DEVINSTATING
I love this behind scenes videos. Can you guys make a technical video sometime about this time lapses. Like when you were talking about the exposure or the time frame between shots. I love to hear your experience in this topic. Thanks guys

Very very good video!
That about london
you guys are awesome ;)

The atmosphere in London does flow, so that was a good choice Carter. I like your T-shirt Devin. :-) Are we going to get new office vlogs soon?

Thanks.
in all the timelapse's, if you watch in HD, you can see black dots all overs the screen, like the lens was dirty or somthing
Awesome video! What timelapse motorized mount were you guys using? Looking for one that works. Thanks
A scenic shot of a Morley's would have fit in perfectly tbh
Blimey. Sorry you both had those experiences, Devin. Only in London, eh? On the bright side, you have some very interesting stories to share with the world!
Carter .... Alone, no food, no water, no camera crew, surviving in London!
Hey, love your videos! Great job! 5th
Nice Video!!! How did you Do the timelapse? Sorry for wrong english;-) I'm from Germany

Nice
Sick

They definitely should've got a sunset time-lapse up primrose hill
i just wanted to know how did you film the timelapse with the british guard standing in front of the camera
did he/she got mad or told you to leave.
Ur cool devin
Hey Devin I was wondering, when you are filming do you use autofocus? Thanks
Can you guys give a update on your headquarter?
how can we make slow motion shots with a 60fps else camera?
You can slow it down in editing, then render and see how smooth it turns out... Sometimes
+MrJohnweez 55x slower post production
convert it down from 60 fps to 24 it makes it slow motion not always clean tho depending on ss
+MrJohnweez Using a plugin called twixtor works surprisingly well with the right setting :D
Where's that affiliate link to purchase that thing for the time lapses?
Can u put the link of the remote in?
you are best
Hi Devin!
How do you always keep such a positive mood/how are you so positive?
For examle - that wake up scaring. I would've really annoyed and angry ar others
:(
Cheers
How did you shoot your timeplapse ?
How many fps dose the dragon do ?
whats the jacket devin is wearing, i know its volcom but can someone give me the link to it???

Devin can you come to Estonia, its full of big forests Google it!
3rd love you guys
Was the break up Devin-stating?
You missed covent garden though...
Hi
You maybe wrong. Beijing have the most CCTV in the world and it is really scary.
The video you're trying to watch cannot be viewed in your current country or location.
really??? WHY??
why didn't Carter just say he was a pro filmer to the people who made a problem of him filming?
Filming in London - filmlondon.org.uk/get-permission-film
"Whatever location you are using, no matter how public it seems, it is likely you'll need to notify or get permission from somebody. The impact of failing to inform relevant authorities could result in unnecessary police resources being deployed."
comcast=Hell
+Shz Won True but if it gives YT some competition, then it could make for a better YT.
london is allot more easy to film in than you make it out to be!
Sucks about what happened in London with you guys, I guess thats the world we live in now :(
Same story with tripods in India.
Check out the timelapse short film I made of London on my channel!
DID U SAY FUCKING COMCAST?!?!
this world is beautiful, and humans are amazing, but also extremely fucked up
you should repeat what the other person says. makes for a longer video
risk = reward
It's police actually
All the traveling they do and they didn't know about England's evil laws? Do they know what the 'city of London' is and what it represents?
You'd hardly be filming time-lapse shots to scout out potential terror attack sites. If there was a braincell between the members of our security services, they'd be dangerous.
27th :1
COMCAST IS NOT A GOOD COMPANY, I WILL NOT BE WATCHING ANYTHING OVER THERE.
Im from Britain and they don't give anyone room to breath to be creative. a big shame!.
