    Hey guys I'll keep updating this comment with things I missed:
    An Option Card cannot be played without having the same colored Digimon and/or Tamer card in the Battler or Raising area. However, this does not apply to Option cards checked in the Security Stack. You can freely use all Security Effects during a security check regardless of your colors in play.

      Overall I think this was a great introductory video into the game! Only other things I can think of for an introductory video that might have been nice are:
      1.) It's mandatory to use all effects when they are triggered unless they specifically say "You May do X"(except for AncientGarurumon which says you may but is actually mandatory because it's a mistranslation -_-) or there's a cost involved like "do X to do Y". You sort of went into this but explaining they have to use the effects could be helpful as there are definitely times you might not want to use an effect.
      2.) All effects of options, digimon and tamers are "Do as much as you can". So, as an example in the video, if you didn't have a digimon in play and you wanted to not give your opponent too much memory, you can choose to just play Death Claw (assuming you have a purple tamer or digimon in the breeding area to let you use a purple option card) for the 1 cost. You can't delete your opponents digimon because you don't have one to pay the cost, but you can still play it to only give your opponent 1 memory. This is most important for effects that state Do X THEN Y because those ones, even if you can't do X, you still do Y
      3.) This might be a bit too advance for an introductory video but, the fact that, when multiple effects trigger at the same time (so all the When Attacking effects), the owner of the effects can choose the order of which effect to activate first amongst their own and, the turn's players effects always happen before their opponents from the same timing. Then, if an effect is added because of another effect completing, that newly added effect will "jump the cue" and activate prior to all remaining effects that were waiting to be used.
      It might also be nice to go into the other common keywords like Reboot, Recovery, Security Attack, Digi-Burst but I understand leaving those out of an introductory video. Those are more for future videos for more advance mechanics. Happy to see this video regardless though. It's my favourite TCG and you guys are my favourite TCG players to watch videos of :P

      Here's a couple:
      - You can always pass your turn without commiting to any plays or attacking. Doing so will always make your opponent start their turn at 3 memory, regardless of how much memory you had left when you passed.
      - Whenever a Digimon has Security Attack +X, it means it checks X more security cards when attacking, as all Digimon have regular Security Attack by default. For example, a Digimon with Security Attack +2 will check 3 cards when attacking security. Also a Digimon that attacks multiple security in one attack has to survive all checks in order to attack to complete. In the previous example, if the Digimon has 11k DP and it hits a Digimon with 12k DP on his first check, then the attacking Digimon will be deleted before he can continue the battle.
      - You forgot to mention summoning sickness, as in Digimons that get played without digivolving cannot attack the turn they're played, unless they have the Rush ability.
      - Any boost or ability a Digimon gains will remain even after that Digimon digivolves. So if a Digimon gets a 2k DP boost for the turn while it's lvl 5, for example, it'll still remain with that boost if it evolves into lvl 6.

    • @RobertHinchey
      @RobertHinchey 3 года назад +1

      @@consoleman94 To be fair on that last point, it's probably best in a video on the basics that he didn't mention that as it's not actually always the case.
      As an example, say the SEC BT1 Metalgreymon which has default security attack +2 evolves into BT1 Wargreymon
      When the digimon evolves into Wargreymon it'll lose the Security Attack +2 that the Metalgreymon had but gain Security Attack +1 because it digivolved that turn. This means he'll only have Security Attack +1 instead of Security Attack Plus 3
      If BT1 Wargreymon evolved further into Omnimon (on the same turn) though, it'd keep the security attack +1 because that effect is for the turn.
      Then there's the global effects like BT5 Rosemon which, for the turn, gives all your digimon with Digi-burst Security Attack +1. If you used Rosemon's ability and then evolved her into Chaosmon, who doesn't have a digi-burst effect himself, Chaosmon won't be affected by the effect of Rosemon anymore even though the mon had digi-burst at the time of the effect being used
      Alternatively, if you evolve say BT1 RustTyranomon into Rafflesimon, even if after the effect was used, Rafflesimon would still benefit from the effects of Rosemon's digi-burst of security attack +1 even though they didn't have digi-burst when Rosemon used it's effect.
      While it is true that the vast majority of effects last for the turn and continue with the mon if it evolves/de-evolves, saying that all effects always carry over could just cause problems with newer players who don't know the intricacies of which type of effects you're talking about will last.

      Yup, we're always afraid of Bandai screwing up and breaking it, but not yet. It's very balanced. As in, you can make some amazing Digimon, but usually it takes a lot of memory, and as such gives your opponent time to either get rid of it, or at least brace himself for it a little.

  • @daviddent5662
    @daviddent5662 3 года назад +16

    So it's not only got a good balanced Mana base that makes one have to check how they play lest they give their opponent a advantage BUT it also has a version of MTG's Mutate and Yugioh's Extra Deck that is more fair and fun?! Amazing! Little bit of Pokemon and Vanguard action going on too with players being able to guard or just rush into the shields. LOVE THAT!
    It also occured to me as I was leaving this solves one of my biggest gripes in modern Yugioh that monsters became nothing more than faceless component pieces as the game evolved to focus more on the extra deck, Just wow. Whoever worked on this deserves a medal for that alone.

    Digimon is the best TCG I've played in a long time, and is currently my go-to game. The Memory Gauge is the best mana system I've ever seen in a game, and there's always something you can do during your turn. The bonus card you get to draw for digivolving always helps keep your hand fresh, and even when there's nothing to digivolve, you can still just play them right from your hand, with some even having the added benefit of "On Play" effects. The game is currently exploding in praise and popularity, and it's already been hinted that a digital client for the game is on the way.
    While Magic, Pokemon and Yugioh may always be the Top 3 games in terms of sales, I believe at the rate the game is going, Digimon can at least be a Top 4 game for a long time.

    Theres quite abit more to teach players about this game but this was a great start. The best advice I can give to learning this game is to try and not let other games rules dictate how you play this game. Yugioh being the perfect example on how convoluted rules can be, and in turn how confused players are when playing. Honestly just follow what the cards say and if says to do A and B but you can only do B. Thats ok just do B. Thats how this game is played.

      There are some more complicated rulings that can come into play but for the most part yea. For example "I'll Drag You Into the Depths" works against the Omnimon from Bt5 that prevents a card effect from removing it from play. Other rules like "when attacking" effects always happen before an opponent can declare a blocker or security effect. This becomes more relevant with LordKnightmon and it's effect that allows you to play a card from hand. That card still gets it's on play effect before an opponent can declare blocker or reveal a security check. A lot of people forget this/ignore this.

    • @atbender89
      @atbender89 3 года назад

      @@MaPleWoRlDOrder Ill drag you into the depths works against it because Omnimon needs to return a lv 6 under it to protect itself. Drag works if the card has no cards under it. So there's not a weird interaction there.

    • @consoleman94
      @consoleman94 3 года назад +1

      During your Breeding Phase, you can only hatch a Digi Egg or move a digimon in the raising area to the battle area. You can only do one of those per turn. There's no such thing as attack or defense position in Digimon, you suspend your digimon when attacking (place them in "defense position"), and they do not unsuspend until the start of your next turn usually.

    Great video! Absolutely got me hooked
    So the question is... I have a budget of $50... What should I buy to build a fun/semi competitive deck
    (Not biased with any colour as I have so many favourite Digimon across the sets) 😅

    • @consoleman94
      @consoleman94 2 года назад

      Green decks tend to generally be cheapest in whatever meta is happening at the time, since most of their cards are low rarity or don't require that many SRs.

    Great video for a new comer! I have cards in my deck that will do more than one security check. Does that allow me to for instance attack a suspended digimon and do one check or do both have to be checks?

    Hello, just want to ask, can you use the effect of suspended tamers to gain memory at the start of your turn?

  • @nocrot1

    Reminds me a little of Duel Masters with it's win condition and blocker enemy effects.

    questions about breeder zone. can u keep digivolving ur digimon in the breeding area? can they be attacked or forced to suspend etc?

    • @consoleman94
      @consoleman94 3 года назад +1

      While a Digimon is on the breeding area, it is unaffected by anything that happens in the battle area. They cannot be attacked, destroyed, suspended, etc. You also always digivolve your digimon in the breeding area as you would normally, and it is not mandatory to move them out of the breeding area during your raising phase.

    does your card about setting up also not specify the number of security? (pokemon and vanguard both being 6)
    digimon card game instructions 1
    [setting up]
    1 shuffle egg deck
    2 shuffle deck and place in deck zone, next, place the top cards (unspecified) of your deck in your security stack

    • @consoleman94
      @consoleman94 3 года назад

      You always start with 5 security.

    What if a player ends their turn with the counter still in their Zone? For example: player 1 ends their turn with the counter still on 4 memory for them. EDIT: Anytime you still have memory at the end of your turn the counter goes to the enemy giving them 3 memory.

    Question, do the inherited abilities trigger simultaneously or sequentially? In the video you drew 2 cards on the attack trigger instead of drawing 1 and trash 1 two times.

    Great vid. Another key point, is that you can have actually more than 4 copies of a card. You can run, for example, 4 agumon from set 1 and another 4 from set 2. This goes for tamers as well.

    joking aside i have noticed boosters are actually available now, starter decks on the other hand i haven't really seen except for overpriced online. Depending on where you live your luck may be different.

      Yeah SD are crazy. In Digimon they are the only source of some amazing Digimon and option cards, my recomendation is, if you're getting into the game, or plan to, pre order the next SD's. They are essential going foward, with great Alternative art reprints, AND come with the Memory boosters, game changing cards!
