Willy, I can't understand why you are still applying the "Soviet doctrine" principles of the 2nd WW to the current conflict. 1) Russia does NOT produce inferior armaments, although it produces them in large quantities. This has been proven by Kinzhals, FAB's ability to penetrate western electronic warfare systems where JDAMs have failed against the Russian counterparts, M1A2s and Leopards seem to burn just as well as T72s, Tornado does not seem to have an inferior effect to the ATACAMs. 2) Russian "human wave" tactics are bunk - History Legends as well as multiple other neutral analysts have shown that there is zero evidence of Russians rushing masses of troops vs concentrated fire. In other words: your opening argument is 100% same propaganda as peddled by mass media

Does Willy believe that Russia is suffering more loses then the Ukraine? He is describing Soviet doctrine like it is being used by Russia. His description of soviet doctrine does sound like the playbook used by the Ukraine in last years summer offensive though. Is that NATO doctrine?

Another aspect of the war is the growing embarassment of ukraine allies. Poland recently asked Ukraine to condemn nazism in its army, Hungary is upset that oil doesn't flow anymore, and a lot of europeans have given so much to ukraine that they put themselves in a dire situation. The F16 case emphasised this : Z ask for 100 hundred jets, but he was able to provide only 6 men who completed the training. How does he responds «the west didn't give enough weapons, and it gave too little, too late». Is he blind or what. No, the ukrainian government try to hide its incompetence by rejecting the fault on his allies. Remember the defense lines in the north ? The west depleted its own defense to provide weapons to Ukraine, there were so much missiles and manpad than Ukrainians soldiers used to shoot choppers with anti tank missiles. The west gave everything except its own soldiers (even that is not sure : the international legion, and others private contractors). Ukrainian is factually losing because they didn't mobilise enough men, and they didn't because they couldn't. The hard truth is that there is a number of ukrainians that don't suport this war, and some may prefer Moskow to Kiev. That's why it can't mobilize on a large scale and ressort to kidnapping.

We have built an army for policing the world - the idea was we manage the empire by using airpower and rapid deployment of special operations forces - the Ukraine war is Biden's fetish - Ukraine was not and never was, a US strategic interest (as Biden announced in the days after the Feb 2022 Russian intervention in the CIA-initiated Ukraine civil war) - but involves the opposite of what we've built up over 30 years.
Our strategy and tactics rely on a unipolar world with us as the hegemon power - not the reality - of several great powers (multipolarity) and now instead of one peer power to deal with - two peer powers - as Russian great power war experience and industrial capacity, now makes them de facto, peer military power to NATO/US.
The way out without great power war (resulting in the annihilation of our civilization) is negotiations for a new global security cooperation pact - likely meaning you give China the responsibility for security in her near abroad - and as far as Russia's new found military dominance due to the conduct of this war that Biden et al. forced Russia into producing - is a ring of buffer states who agree to remain neutral on Russia's boarder (so Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Georgia). In other words - a pause - creating a period of strategic neutrality means you can restart your imperium drive to bifurcate Russia after you have built a war industrial base that can supply such a war (which the imperium seems to want to fight at the risk and expense of the western enlightenment itself - a likely function of the MICIMATT - which must be what's driving the politicians to this collective suicide).

Also, Ukraine wants to join NATO still, while this one of the reasons this whole conflict started. Only the USA can change this, but I don't hink Trump/Vance can end this conflict, because there's the deepstate (CIA, Pentagon, etc.) that doesn't want this conflict to end I think. Concerning the workforce and NCOs, I would like to add a few elements. In fact, we have a good example of this with a discussion between General Bonaparte who returned victorious from the Egyptian campaign and another French General who had been defeated in Italy. The second General indicates that he was beaten because his army was outnumbered. To which Bonaparte replied that it was normal because “it is always the most numerous who win”. The other General then points out that Bonaparte's army was outnumbered in Egypt, but had won. Bonaparte then responds that this is normal because "it is always the most numerous who win"...
Faced with incomprehension, Bonaparte then explained one of the three basic military principles, first we should not take the overall number, but the number on a point. In fact, the three principles complement each other: concentration of efforts, economy of forces and freedom of action. The concentration of efforts will consist of analyzing the entire enemy force, and concentrating its efforts on the weakest point. Let's imagine that we have 6 very small abcdef groups and the enemy has 3 (ABC) but very strong. If the enemy's point B is the weakest, we will attack him. But be careful: we are definitely not going to attack point B with our abcdef groups because otherwise, the enemy's groups A and C will come to the rescue! We are therefore going to attack enemy group A with our small group a, C with our group f and we are going to attack the enemy's weak group (B) with bcde.
The goal of our groups a and f is not to defeat A and C which is unthinkable in any cases, but simply to prevent A and C from coming to help B. For this we must "save our forces" (economy of forces - 2nd point of military logic): we will calculate the minimum that we must engage against A and C to contain them, and put everything else against B. If we do not put enough forces against A and C, these two groups will break free and help B and if we put too many forces against A and C, we risk having difficulty defeating B.
The 3rd point is that we must maintain our “freedom of action”, therefore a sort of freedom of movement. Because when B is crushed by our small groups bcde, we will have to analyze the situation of group a against A and of group f against C in order to determine which enemy group we must focus our effort on, either depending on the weakness of one of the enemy groupe or depending on the difficulty of our groups a or f to maintain themselves against A and C.
For the moment the Russians are constantly maneuvering while the Ukrainians are losing their "freedom of action" because as soon as they move to help, they create a "hole" and the Russians rush into it. For the Ukrainians the question is therefore permanent: the Russians are advancing on village X. OK, but do we go there, or do we protect village Y, where we are? If the Ukrainians stay on Y, then X will fall and if they move to protect X, Y will fall. As for the concentration of efforts, now it can only be on the Russian side because the concentration of efforts, as said previously, does not only consist of attacking a point, but also of preventing the arrival of help. We must therefore maintain our freedom of action while disturbing the enemy one. However, overall, if the Ukrainians concentrate their efforts on one point, they will no longer have the necessary manpower to fix the Russians on the other points. The breaking point is approaching...

The first thing that comes to mind is Ukraine was also in Soviet Union and the Red Army. So their initial fight was with USSR doctrine. Second thing that comes to mind when they speak of training Ukrainian troops in the West, what makes one believe that NATO doctrine is superior? Next is the common perception that Russians are wasteful of manpower. That info comes only from the Ukrainian and western side. That has not been proven. Ukrainians and Russians love their children equally. Next I would use general Syrskyy as an example. He was educated in Russia, he is a Russian like many, many, other Ukrainian soldiers are. And many Generals he fights against today are his former classmates. Many Ukrainian soldiers have family in Russia. I have been trying to get this through. This war is a Civil War of Slavic brothers where one wants to join the enemy camp while the other is trying to prevent it.

Western artillery is objectively better than the Russian artillery: it shoots further, faster and with better precision while demanding less crew per piece.
The problem is as always the quantity. Western forces didn't keep the old scrap around when getting new toys as it costs too much to store in conditions that are acceptable. Soviet and later Russia kept it around, as they don't care if the odd piece blows up due to lack of maintenance or bad ammunition. Just occupational hazard.

On the other end of the spectrum Iraq was a walkover (just talking military campaign, not the post war mess) So its all about the context e.g. sponsors, economy, citizen support, and geography etc. that dictates how effective your tech will be. Every Ukrainian brigade that has its own telegram or social media channel talks about the new recruits that have been placed there since the last mobilisation, so how can you state what has happened to them. The answer is they have been sent to the front to patch up under-strength companies. The 2 brigades that were trapped though not encircled who went to Ivanika has about 100 men, Some groups report there are only 5 left alive or uninjured.
Ukraine is now using ground drones after laughing at Russia's own ground drones. Ukraine is now using the Volachansk industrial unit.

What China and Russia have is a skilled workforce and engineers. The West can build industry but cannot find anyone to man them/The uSa has to use oaps to help them build shells. Apprenticeship went away in the west years ago.
Russia has tested a new air defence system that has destroyed a Ukrainian MIG 540 km away. which will prove problematic for F16's. as for The Russian airforce not doing well it did destroy the Ukrainian air force at the start but people who claim that sending planes in when your opponent has a strong air defence system is correct.

Leaving that alone for now, however, here is something to consider about the F-16. It would be great if someone on this channel or one of your contacts could sort out the social background of the Ukrainian F-16 pilots and pilot candidates. I could be flat wrong about this, but jet sales by the United States to many foreign air forces has really been a sale of polo ponies. Scions of the rich get to fly them. Flying the jets, for the most part and with some interesting exceptions, has to do with giving rich young men a thrill -- a scarf around the neck, bragging at the bar while waving top gun hands. They are not expected to risk the pilots' lives.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive), Ukrainian fire fighters stood nearby, did nothing and watched them burned alive. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbass. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbass would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland, 2 Polish civilians in a border village were murdered by a Ukrainian missile. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, "Our children will go to schools and kindergartens - theirs will hide in the basements". Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand - up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbass (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The Azov troops trapped in the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but Azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. Everything above can be fact checked and verified.

All soldiers in the armed forces should be tried and convicted, according to you and your reasons, they are all guilty of something that put another at risk.

Willie the Russians use deep battle attrition warfare. Heavy utilisation of artillery to soften enemy positions, keep up pressure with multiple small scale operations using mechanized forces (using tanks as mobile feild guns, and rotary as CAS). Once one operation bears fruit, deploy the reserve and rush b suka as deep as possible till stiff resistance is met. Then repeate process. On an operational level avoud encirclements and use culdrens to attrite enemy forces in a fire pocket with artillery.
They used this in ww2; the meat waves described were a myth.

By the way, talking of meat waves.
The advantage of vastly superior numbers have been a constant Russian tactic since the great Northern War.
Sweden simply melted before the Russians.
      Consider this.
The only confirmed fatalities by Mediazona are those provided by Prigozhin about Bakhmut.
      They are as follows.
      19.5k.
17.5k prisoners out of 50k recruited.
Infer what you can from that.
      Remember. 1 year ago.
Also remember that this almost caused an overthrow of Putin.
You can't seriously ignore the ww2 penal brigades and the current Storm V and Storm Z brigades.
Putin isn't going to throw away an obviously workable tactic whether large or small units are utilised.
      HEELLLLOOOOOOOOOO!

I was a US Marine and i went to boot in late 2005 and even back then having grown up around my foster dad that had been a udt guy in the navy in Korea i thought our training was bad and was gonna cause casualties and we had practically no house to house skills at all a lot of swat tactics that dont work in a active warzone. Felt like we were trained by cops instead of fighters

You keep saying this, most of military equipments in the west aren't technologically superior, they are just expensive and unnecessarily complicated.

While I keep hearing about the training requirements needed for the aircraft, I haven't heard much about the training and logistics support for the maintenance of the aircraft. I'm sure it will consist mainly of "Contractors", but it's much more involved than I think most people realize.

Willy, are you saying the Russians are losing hundred of thousands in this attritional war, while having gross superiority in manpower, artillery ,missiles, drones ? In that case what would you estimate Ukrainian losses at . Would it be Ukrainian losses of 30,000 like Zelensky had estimated ? Seriously now, you can't be suggesting that Ukrainian losses are less than Russian ?

    What is NATO doctrine???
Do you mean a war with total dominance against countries that do not have aviation, satellites and a tenfold advantage in infantry and equipment?!
We can then say that Russia used NATO doctrine against Georgia in 2008 or Russia against ISIS in Syria.
When they talk about comparing the doctrines of NATO and Russia, they usually say that NATO has fewer losses, but I would like to see how NATO doctrine works in conditions of trench warfare without total air dominance...

"Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics" General Omar Bradley USA (WW2). Russia is outproducing Ukraine (and NATO) in both Arty (King of battlefield), Missiles (Kinzal vs ATACM), SAM (S-300/400 vs Patriots) and many other systems. Like most wars, there is a learning curve for soldiers/officers and it takes years sometimes when new weapons (Drones/FAB/other) are added to the battlefield. Thanks WillyOAM.

Worse tanks? Willy, when the T-64 came out, it was much better than anything the West really had. The T-72 started out as a cheap mass production model, but eventually superseded the T-64. The T-80 and T-90 tanks are also fairly good tanks. The Soviets had good tanks.
