Ben Coates. Top 5 underrated tight end all time. He’s never mentioned. If Brady had Coates in his prime, the way he uses his tightened he’d put up gronk numbers.
My dad bought season tickets with his friends in 1993. The 1994-1998 years were my favorite because it was before everybody else jumped on the NE train. I got to see great games against the dolphins, Jets, Steelers, Broncos, etc. Fun times. No one took anything for granted back then. Every game won was earned and we enjoyed it. Drew Bledsoe was fun to watch. I'm not sure if anyone had a better arm than him. It looked like he just flicked his wrist on some of those long passes. Fun times😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉
This was the year I started to get into watching football and I remember being heart broken when NE lost to Green Bay in the Super Bowl. But since then I decided to ride or die with my Patriots!!!
We are similar this was the first year I watched the Super Bowl. I rooted for New England because of their jerseys. I was upset they lost but It turned me into there fan. For years I couldn't find that white jersey my size and I finally bought that jersey. This era was my favorite Patriots gear. Especially Curtis Martin was a beast.
I have to admit, this is the first time i saw highlights of Patriots teams that didnt win the super bowl before Brady. I was born in 92 so ive been spoiled with the Brady Belichick era. So its cool to see prior to that dynasty with these highlights
People forget some of those playerson 96 superbowl team won them superbowls 36, 38, 39, and played 42 later on. Ted Johnson, lawyer milloy,, Willie mcginest, Otis smith, teddy bruschi, Ty law, drew bledsoe, Adam Vinatieri , troy brown and suspended for the season Terry Glenn. All those players played in one or more super-bowls with troy brown and teddy bruschi playing 4 super bowls with bruschi and brown playing for the 07 patriots. Also a couple coaches on the team ended up winning super bowls as well, Crennel,Weiss, and Belicheck REPLY
I was 14, my two older brothers went to the game, I watched at home with parents, couple other family members and I was crushed when they gave up that TD kick return after pulling within 7, I still say that Adam Vinatieri was held and mugged on that play, should have come back on a holding call, instead I ran in my room slammed the door and cried myself to sleep lol......Thank God for Brady and the rest of each of our eventual SB Championship Teams
The team was about to relocate! Robert Kraft swooped in at the 11th hour and turned this laughingstock into the greatest sports dynasty of all time! The guy sure as hell knows who to hire!
Drew is still my favourite QB !!!! And they were hands down the best jerseys the patriots ever had. I can tell you without Parcels the dynasty doesn't ever exist.
Yeah man. Glad you enjoyed it. I also uploaded a copy of my 1995 New England Patriots VHS (although they weren't nearly as successful that year. Just a warning.)
Back when the Patriots were starting to become popular & turning heads. Sucks that they didn't win the SB that year. They really had a good team that year.
BrokenHarmony Packers were insanely good that year (probably better than the 91 Redskins even.) The worst part is that the Pats could have won if Bledsoe didn't turn the ball over 4 times. The Pats defense came to play that year in the postseason.
Bledsoe's interceptions had less of an impact then you make them out to be. After the first 2, the Patriots were still able to get the lead. The last 2 happened late in the game down multiple scores with the last one bouncing off the receiver's hands. The defense had it's moments but gave up 2 big plays that went for touchdowns. The special teams were detrimental because they gave up a huge momentum shift in the 3rd quarter after the offense got the game within a touchdown. After the kick return by Desmond Howard the Packers defense dominated because of the momentum swing and the Patriots could not stop Reggie White. Despite 4 interceptions, the Patriots offense still produced more points than the other 2 teams that the Packers played in the playoffs that season.
+Aaron Martinez I still remember the 1996 season vividly. A lot of fans (including myself) felt Parcells was not doing his coaching best in what turned out to be his last Super Bowl game. He was already making his move to the Jets, and that irked his staff, particularly then-assistant head coach Bill Belichick who had assembled a good game plan against Green Bay. Had Parcells and Bob Kraft got along, maybe the outcome of the Big Game could have been different.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned before…but much of this Patriots team (and even it’s coaching staff) ended up setting the groundwork for their early 2000s dynasty
22:43 - Defensive Coordinator Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots takes on Head Coach Tom Coughlin of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game from Foxborough. Not the last time that these two men would be on opposite sides with the Patriots and Jaguars respectively in an AFC Championship Game from Foxborough. Now 21 seasons later, the 2017 Season - Bill Belichick as Head Coach of NE and Tom Coughlin as Executive VP of Football Operations of Jax. Here we go again! Belichick and Coughlin were assistant coaches in 1990 on the Giants and won a Super Bowl together. Coughlin beat Belichick in 2 Super Bowls (XLII and XLVI). Their paths continue to cross.
My favorite part of this video is when I see the kid in the audience jumping for joy wearing a blue and red New England Patriots Starter Pullover Winter Jacket in which he looked super cool in! LOL!
I've long said, the more power Parcells had the worse the Patriots played - getting rid of Irving Fryar, Leonard Russell, Kevin Turner, and Michael Timpson were the most glaring bad personnel moves.
Old foxboro was a dump with metal bleachers instead of seats lol. But the atmosphere was so much better. If you had the chance to go to a big game in both than you’ll understand. The crowd noise was so much more in the old one. The stadium shook Gillette. Putting the bridge with the openness. Takes away a lot of the Noise. It gets loud , but if Brady got to play the whole dynasty in old foxboro it would be up there with KC and Seattle as far as noise. As seen with the raiders playoff game. The old foxboro. In the snow. One of the loudest it’s ever been ...Tuck rule baby. Happened to other teams during they year and happened against the pats playing the jets earlier in the year. Just salty fans don’t want to know that.
The 1996 Patriots team was young and rising. It was unfortunate Bill Parcells and Robert Kraft had their differences with each other at that time, which caused Parcells to move to the Jets. And we had to painfully watch the team decline after that.
I know right just imagine Bill belicheck coaching these group of players, and in 1997 the nucleus of this team was there, but Pete Carroll fucked this team over from 1997 to 1999, and as great as Carroll is now with the Seahawks, the players in 1997 to 1999 were MUCH better than the legion of boom, i would take ty law over Sherman any day and this was when you were still allowed to get physical with the qb and recievers
It certainly did not help that numerous Patriot players defected to the Jets between 1997-1999. Curtis Martin was the one that hurts the most. Don't forget that Bill Belichick was Assistant Head Coach & Defensive Backs Coach on this 1996 team. So he already knew the core players that eventually helped win the first three Patriots Super Bowl titles. It was amazing how fast Belichick rebuilt the team when he came back as head coach and instilled his style of football. As for Dave Meggett, I remember him as the precursor to Kevin Faulk, the change-of-pace third down back. Never knew he's in prison, but sad to read that Meggett will be a free man in 17 years, at age 67.
yup and the only guy i can remember that came back to the pats after their stint with the jets was otis smith, looks like he was loyal to belicheck and his coaching staff, and remember he was cut by the jets in 1996, and the pats signed him during the 1996 season,
And then Otis Smith moved back to the Jets for 1997-1999. I was surprised Otis returned to the Patriots again in 2000. Perhaps he did feel he flourishes under this particular style of football. Of the Pats players who defected for the Jets with Parcells, Otis is the only one to ever come back to New England. Not a lot of Pats fans appreciate him for that. And he got a Super Bowl ring in the end for that choice. Interesting note: The starting secondary for the Pats in Super Bowls XXXI and XXXVI were practically identical save for one player... Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, and Otis played in both. Willie Clay (XXXI) and Tebucky Jones (XXXVI) were the difference.
Imagine if Bledsoe had more than 1 credible receiver and tight end. That super bowl hinged entirely on a blown coverage and poor special teams. Most underrated team with the most underrated QB in history
Yeah..the youngest player to throw for over 20k yards and over 43k before he retired at only 34...251 touchdowns and all of this with little to no talent around him...but yea..he wasn't elite at all...::rolls eyes::
Weadfreek as a fellow die-hard patriots fan, Drew was a great quarterback for a few seasons (95-99). at times he was wayyyyy too careless with the football and depended on the long ball far too often. throwing passes behind his head as he was falling down and throwing into double and even triple coverage when he shouldn't. That's why Brady was such a breath of fresh air. He didn't try to force things that weren't there and panic. He took what the defense gave him and showed the maturity and composure of a veteran early one. Bledsoe was a very competent QB for most of his career with plenty of flashes of brilliance but ultimately the game passed him by.
Bledsoe was playing today's game 20 years ago. He always tried to make something happen and sometimes it worked against him, but he had little to no offense to work with so he had to do it. Secondly..with Brady..when you get paired with the single greatest head coach in history from day 1 and follow his system, you're going to be successful. Also..I don't hear too many people bitching about how many INT's Favre threw back in the day...Brady is amazing but put him with another team and another coach and I think he's mediocre at best.
Weadfreek little to no offense? I'll admit his weapons aren't as potent as the Pats weapons as of late, but to say he had no offense is plain dumb. he played behind a strong offensive line and had options such as Curtis Martin, Ben Coates, Terry Glenn and Shawn Jefferson for the bulk of his career. hardly a weak offense
Key Additions Terry Glenn At WR (1st round pick out of Ohio State University in 1996 96/97 All Rookie) Shawn Jefferson At WR (Via Free Agency) Lawyer Milloy at FS (3rd round pick out of Washington) T.Bruschi Linebacker Otis Smith Cornerback (Free Agency) Key losses Vincent Brown Linebacker (Retirement) Michael Thompson at Receiver (Via Free Agency- signs with Chicago) Key players Drew Bledsoe at Quarterback (Number one pick in 93) Ty Law Cornerback Mcginest at Defensive end Curtis Martin H-Back (95/96 Rookie of the year) Vincent Brisby Receiver Ben Coates at TE (Leads the team in reception touchdowns in 96) Bruce Armstrong At offensive tackle Ted Johnson Middle Linebacker Chris Slade Outside Linebacker Willie Clay SS 96/97 NFL Season New England wins 11 games Defeats Pittsburgh in the Divisional Round Defeats Jacksonville in the Conference title game Loses to Green Bay in SBXXXI
If Parcells didn't have his head and heart in NY already during that SB and or just ran Curtis Martin more, rather than that like 14 passes in a row stretch, or some amount way to many without a single rush, where they did nothing and went nowhere, when Martin was gashing the Packers all over the place and they had no answer for him, oh well, least we got the next two plus decades or success now......GO PATS!!!!!!!
Bruce Armstrong, Willie McGinnest, & Robert Kraft deserve too be in the Hall Of Fame, in my opinion? Drew Bledsoe COULD HAVE BEEN, until it all feel apart!
Many Pats fans forget that this was the season that ignited the dynasty. If AV hadn't of made a rookie mistake of kicking to Howard in that Super Bowl, who knows what could've happened because we outplayed the Packers for much of that game.
Sorry when you turn the football over so much you wont win. Bledsoes interception were costly, one of them was noy his fault because vicent brisby could not hold on to the catch.
As great as this season was, it's ranked 20th best in Patriots history if grading by SRS (+5.1, Pro-Football-Reference). And for context, the 2001 SB Champion Patriots are ranked 25th with an SRS of (+4.3). SRS obviously can't account for variables and isn't subjective, otherwise the 2001 Patriots would rank inside the Top 10 Patriot teams of all time. Yup, I'd say the Patriots have some history, even if most of it's greatest moments happened after 1993.
The 93-94-95-96 seasons created the Patriot Way... Drew and Bill were there 1st. Kraft came in 94 and by his OWN ADMISSION blew up the Dynasty that could have started here. His biggest regret. Parcells biggest regret too.Loosing Parcells, Belichick and Martin. They could have skipped the Pete Carrol era and gone strait to Belichick in 2000. Difference? No way Drew, Ben and Curtis don't get back to the championship before 2001. Drew would of been a 1st ballot HOF QB. Chances are they'd of STILL gotten Brady in 2000.
Martin was such a beast. Shame that he followed Parcells over to the Jets. It's like when your ex-girlfriend starts dating some dude you know who is a total douchebag.
This was my favorite Patriots team. Very dignified and like-able. Kraft had yet to put his "mark" on the team. It was still Parcells and Bledsoes. This team they have now is detestable from the owner right down to the ball boy.
What's your gripe with today's team? If you ask me, Parcells was an overrated disloyal egomaniac. It probably hurts his pride so bad that Belichick now has 5 rings as a head coach and he only has two.
heydudedolfan13 Patriots are great, Red Soxs are good, Celtics are getting much better, Bruins are mediocre. 10 championships in 15 years. It doesn't get much better then that.
heydudedolfan13 The Dolphins are going to have to fight for 2nd in the AFC East if they want to make the Playoffs again. And it is Crazy how the Dolphins still haven't found a good qb after Marino.
Ben Coates. Top 5 underrated tight end all time. He’s never mentioned. If Brady had Coates in his prime, the way he uses his tightened he’d put up gronk numbers.
I totally agree w/ you
Loved this Pats team. I remember how exciting that year was and watching them make a playoff run. Bledsoe was always my favorite.

SetsunaAngel99 they are still legit in New England. It’s outside of New England is where most of the bandwagon fucks are.
Funny how everything came together for drew that year and he still couldn't win the big game.
He was a good QB but not on TB12’s level!
23:07 this ain't Tampa lol
front runners only care about the tom brady era
The late 90s teams had the talent. They just lacked the coach and a qb with balls to fimish the job
@@scottaznavourian5791 Drew was a good but not great QB!
I can't believe how heavy I look at the 4:07 mark on this video.........I'll never wear a green suit again. I had a great time at the game though
James Arnold Is that really you?
11:22 former Patriot Leonard Russell
3:43 Ricky Reynolds
3:19 Shawn Jefferson
curtis mvp
Martin was such a beast. Shame that he followed Parcells over to the Jets. It's like when your ex-girlfriend starts dating some dude you know who is a total douchebag.
Meggett still in prison

How the hell did he get in?
This was my favorite Patriots team. Very dignified and like-able. Kraft had yet to put his "mark" on the team. It was still Parcells and Bledsoes. This team they have now is detestable from the owner right down to the ball boy.
What's your gripe with today's team? If you ask me, Parcells was an overrated disloyal egomaniac. It probably hurts his pride so bad that Belichick now has 5 rings as a head coach and he only has two.
BrokenHarmony That's why their The Class of The League & the most dominant Dynasty of the past decade & a half & their not finished
NY sport teams are in decline.
heydudedolfan13 Patriots are great, Red Soxs are good, Celtics are getting much better, Bruins are mediocre.
10 championships in 15 years. It doesn't get much better then that.
heydudedolfan13 The Dolphins are going to have to fight for 2nd in the AFC East if they want to make the Playoffs again. And it is Crazy how the Dolphins still haven't found a good qb after Marino.
