The best replacement for your damaged or frayed cable, The Fastway® ZIP™ eliminates cable fray and protects your fingers from loose, sharp wire.
It keeps your cable off the ground and out of harm’s way while you’re towing and is a safer, more reliable connection from your tow vehicle to your trailer.
If the distance between your brake switch to the connection point on your tow vehicle is less than 3', get the 4' ZIP Breakaway Cable. If the distance is more than 3', get the 6' ZIP Breakaway Cable.
    ZIP™ BREAKAWAY CABLE
There is a ZIP breakaway cable to fit every trailer. We have two different cable lengths in 3 different styles. The 4′ cables are recommended for bumper pull trailers, and the 6′ cables fit gooseneck or 5th wheel trailers

Thank you for the video! I really don't like the factory cables that hang down. I'll take a look at my trailer to check the length of the factory installed breakaway cable. I'm thinking that it is 6' long. If so, I will buy one of these cables of the same length.

Because these are coiled I tend to go with the longer option. They are a great upgrade!

It shouldn’t attach to the hitch. It should hook up to the tow vehicle, separate from the hitch. If the hitch falls off or fails entirely, your brake system will go with it if it’s not connected directly to your TV.

I understand what you are saying. But where exactly would you hook it? There aren't usually other loops at the back of the vehicle.

Are you serious??? You must be confused with the hitch and the receiver. The hitch is bolted onto the tow vehicle at many points and is as solid as the frame itself. The receiver is held in by 1 pin and if you forget the cotter pin holding that in place your receiver will slide right out. Please you tube hitches in general for basic knowledge 😂😂😂😂

Ahhh it needs to be shorter than your chains are. The purpose is to engage the brakes if the trailer comes off the ball. Also I hope you lifted up the switch and verified you can pull the key out.

It was my understanding that it’s there if the trailer becomes detached from the tow vehicle. Fastway offers a 4’ and 6’ cable option.
Here is what their website says: “If your trailer is still connected with the safety chains use the manual trailer brake control to slow down your trailer and slow down your tow vehicle while pulling off onto the side of the road. If your trailer has become uncoupled and it isn't attached by the safety chains, then your Zip breakaway cable will pull out and the trailer brakes will apply. In this case pull your vehicle over until your trailer comes to a complete stop and you have the chance to assess the situation.”
And yes, I have verified that the emergency switch will engage the brakes in the event that the cable is pulled.

This is incorrect, Tim. Breakaway cables should be LONGER than the chains. It should only activate if chains are broken, disconnected, or the whole hitch system fails.
