If you were born in 1200 you may have lived a very short life, if you survived infancy and childhood that is. Nothing beats hearing ( and in my case a little playing) this sort of music on instruments made to the authentic design of those times. HAPPY LISTENING FOLKS ( and playing) .. live life, play hard!
No, your previous life was the 21st C, when men could make music not by minstrel as today but by magic glowing box, upon which they could see all the world and its wisdom like the scrying glasses of the wizards of the Great Forest today., But such times were over 1,000 years ago, just before the war of the magic Suns, and we speak not of such times of heresie today.
That is an irony considering that the middle ages were soothing for virtually no one.... a hard, hard time to be a human being. The music is sublime though.
Actually, History doesn't say that. That's a stereothype used by those who don't know History =) There were rough times, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, but, at the same time, lots of achievments. European languages and countries came to existence, Universities were built, the Vikings made everything a lot more interesting, and some of the most beautiful hand-written books of all time were copied, thanks to a lot of hard work, and artistic talent, by monks. There was also a lot of intercultural contact, between Europe and the Islam, and the Arabs "exported" things that we take for granted, like the numbers as we know it today, for example. Lot of stuff going on, in the Middle Ages...
HeathenDance Understand that the middle ages were placed around the little ice age which did indeed result in chilly and cloudy conditions across much of Europe.
HeathenDance The Europeans also came to the Arabian lands to study and even learn the Arabic language because they had the upper power of military and science, don't forget that European lords/kings hired Arabian engineers to help them siege the castle.
This was the pop music of the day. They didn't divide things into classical and pop back then. They were just thrilled to find someone talented enough to carry the tune.
They also had plenty of works of literature that one would not be surprised to find on the modern internet. Chaucer wrote one of the most hilariously vulgar stories ever in the Canterbury Tales, to the point where he actually takes a moment beforehand to warn the reader. Meaningful lyrics and ribald jokes are not owned by any one era. *Derk was the nyght as pich or as the cole/and at the wyndow out she putte hir hole,/And Absolon, hym fil no bet ne wers/but with his mouthe he kiste her naked ers.*
I listened to this while revising for my history exam just to put me in a historical mood and never thought i'd say this but medieval music is growing on me!
Merchants Row, now that brings back memories of my childhood, when we played in the grassy eeire ruins of a long straight road an hour's walk west of our village of Luddon, where our old granddad told tales of merchant shops that once sold fantastic boxes the size of a goose upon which you could see the whole world, and access all knowledge, like the scrying glasses today of the witches of Epping Waste, but then any man with money could have this magic, also smaller boxes, maybe the size of a small rat, upon which you could talk and be heard across the hills, even to Bristol a week's ride away by fast stallion!! Sad he has now passed away, for he once told me the name of this 'Merchants Row', Hoxfard Street I think he said. But that of course was before the Magic War when men fought with fabulous Sun Bombs that rose in the West, and could destroy any city even in a single day.
I remember something I can't explain, maybe my past life is a lone warrior lurking in the wilderness or an adventurer :) Damn , when I hear medieval musics I felt something I can't explain, my imagination goes to somewhere ...
Same. Almost as if the moment u were born this was playing. For me I know why and maybe you do too. I am one of the most important of my family members everyone says. My mom can't have children. They always die in her. So one day my dad went to Mexico to pray in that church. And I was born. So I always had a connection with churches. And I think the way medieval music is is very similar to church music.
If I was born in this ages I wold be an assassin like altair from ac but in reality I would be a simple peasant dreaming of greater things like some people back then.
those days were awful ... diseases , no fresh water,a bath every month, no good food conservation, people were ugly due to arranger marriage , superstition ...

And now it's weakened to nothingness .... Thanks to liberalism and its outreach to the Muslim hordes who have taken over under the guise of liberal multiculturalism. They'd rather submit to the hordes than to be labeled as a so called racist. So sad.
Carl Breitman The Catholic Church emerged from the ashes of the fall of the Roman Empire and United Europe once more. Through early and high middle ages, Christedom was united.

Lutes, chimes, depending on the time period of the music it could include a Violin *Violins first developed in the early 1500s*. But most probably the Vielle *predecessor to the Violin*. For plucking as I said it may be a Lute or other plucking instruments *mandore, gittern, psaltery etc*. Definitely a flute was used. I'm sure there are others but I can't name them all! Hope this helped! :)
Judging by the resonance and the origin of the first song (Herr Olof, Swedish), I'm going to guess that you're hearing a somewhat modern version of a nyckelharpa, ie. keyed fiddle.
Yes! Where the myths of faeries dwell in magical forests with the rocky European mountains along with fields of yellow flowers growing amongst green grass in the valley in the spring sun while a cool breeze goes pass? YES!
I agree, I am proud to be European too, but never forget how wonderful and exciting the other continents are. The future is worldly and open, and I hope that one day nationality will play a secondary role to the type of person you are, not the other way around.

i was living in these times in my previous life that's why im fond of this music
I'm glad that someone feels the same as me
Not really, you just yearn for a romanticized version of life. A simpler happier, more natural life.
I mean, technically we all were. (If the past life thing is real)
This has a very authentic quality to it.
It’s wonderful how music can transport you, even across many hundreds of years.
Is it just me who loves this type of music??
No. I love it.
i also love this sort of music, it transports me to the middle ages and it's so soothing too. =)

history said that medieval is sunk in the darkness. but through the music, I start to think diffirent

more like 21th century going to sunk in darkness. Each day it`s darker and darker.
Instant time travel back into history!
The Medieval songs have deeper meanings than today’s songs
Victorious Victorious Agreed, but I would have felt differently 40 or 50 years ago, when there were real craftspeople on the pop charts.
Victorious Victorious true that😉
Daphne Vetulani 😜

Yes, because half the children died before reaching 18. Yet average people that came to adulthood used to die after 60.

The Medieval period left Europe stronger and better than it had been at the end of the Roman Empire.
And now it's weakened to nothingness .... Thanks to liberalism and its outreach to the Muslim hordes who have taken over under the guise of liberal multiculturalism. They'd rather submit to the hordes than to be labeled as a so called racist.

Hi Vinod. The Greek/Eastern Orthodox Churches also contributed much to the Middle Ages.

Javier Añón sounds like a modern arrangement... there were no strings like the ones heard in that piece in the middle ages.
