Back in the 1980s and early 1990s I would eat lunch at two of the restaurants in Fayetteville regularly. As it is the county seat I got to know many of the lawyers and judges in Fayetteville. The two restaurants I would have lunch at were Shad's and Elliott's.
I'd imagine that the newly created New River Gorge National Park will bring in a buncha new visitors - enjoy the opportunities created, and congrats to WV for the Park!
I’ve been on the road since September 8th, sightseeing and looking for a new home. I think this is it. Fayetteville is definitely a cool small town, beautiful and the people are Nice!
Did you buy a house there? If so, what drew you to this area? I'm retiring in the near future and want to move to a peaceful town where people mind their own business and other people's things.
Love West Virginia in from Ohio and we love a long weekend in West VA. The gorges, the caves, the shopping and then, the stuck to your ribs food, and some of the most wonderful people I our country.
Tudor's Biscuit World is by far the best breakfast you can buy from a chain. If you drive by one slam on your brakes and stop. If you cause an accident then buy the other guy a biscuit too. The Peppi is godly.
When I used to eat lunch in Fayetteville I knew many of the lawyers. A few years ago I took part in a walking / running competition at the city park. Going to the Cathedral Cafe is very enjoyable.
This is where I grew up so it was great to see the town as I remembered it. The white columned Legion Hall across from the gymnasium was the home of my Grand-Mother. You need to do a story on the Fayette Airport and its great history. I came in there several years ago and flew my Powered Parachute from there to the bridge just like ole' Frank Thomas did on a daily basis. What great memories I have of that airport.
I used to guide for Gauley Expeditions and we were at the south end of the strip. Frank would come around after trips and fly people over the New River Gorge and bridge. I remember he was hard of hearing, but loved to recite poetry to the ladies. Frank actually crash landed on Hwy 19 one time cause he ran out of gas. We kept a piece of the plane in the outfitters store for a souvenir. Oh, and the runway had a hill in the middle and a bit crooked too. Craziest thing I ever did was fly with him, only once!
Brings back SO many memories, I used to live 500 yards from McCoy Field, I went to Fayetteville elementary and then my family moved to Indianapolis, In. I moved back and went to high school for a while and got to reunite with some of my friends I hadn't seen sense we we're little kids. I remember it ALL so well and have been going their all my life and was just their at Tutors this last fall, great place to get some vittles if your real hungry! My family is from there, my grandmother lived in a place where a coal mining camp used to be in k more, I think that's what they called that area back when my grandmother was young, it's just passed the McCoy Field park, We used to walk down the access road in front of her house when I was a kid and watch them working on the bridge, her house was just a short walk from the building sight so we'd go see it every couple of days as it was built, I remember when the towers fell on one side, I was thirteen and was in town in school when the word got out. Lot of great memories living there as a young lad, wouldn't trade them for the world! Thank you for posting it, it made my day to see it, I still live in Indy but my mind and heart is in Fayetteville. Joe T.
Really nice video tour. Wait a minute... isn't that the courthouse that lightning hit and sent Marty Mcfly back to the future? I swear I've seen it somewhere...
Does anyone know where Union soldiers may have been buried ? My gg grandfather died June 1st 1864. at a regement hospital in Fayetteville. Thanks for any advise. The tour was great, would love to come visit.
There are two really old cemeteries there that he could be buried in. There are many books about the rich history there, I'm sure someone could help you. A man whose name is Dale Payne is probably your go to guy for answers. He has written many books about F'ville.
Just watched this great video. My family came to this area in the 1880s. We still own our family farm on 16 past the old dairy farm. Great people love wva
@@browningbelgium2326 There is quite a few around the area, in downtown fayetteville that i know of that are pretty nice, but i dont know the prices or if they are still avaliable at the moment.
15 years ago I lived in nearby Oak Hill and loved to come and hike/bike in this area. Cool town always and now a brewery too! No tour available, but looking forward to my birthday break here as well as Charleston. Wanting to test out the SECRET SANDWICH SOCIETY w/ a Bridge Brew Works brew for lunch. Hike and then check-in at the B&B plus go to the "original" Pies & Pints too. Hopefully it'll be SUNNY while in the area that I was so fortunate to reside in for a year. Cheers!

That was a long time ago mentioning Shad's. He was my neighbor growing up and uncle to my BFF. We called him Uncle Shad to lol

There were union soldier graves in a field near the airport. I believe when they built Wal Mart they dug up the graves. Go figure?

You people must be hard up for a story. "Hippie" doesn't even begin to describe it.
I lived there for a year, the nickname of this town was Stank Well Falls. Not sure who came up with that
Bogan master
Video to fast, could enjoy the town.
If you stop, eat at Tudors and keep going.
