The song is to me, mainly, about wanting something so much that you almost forget who you are, and lose yourself in the chase. It doesn't matter what it is, a relationship or a traumatic childhood that you wanted to be different. In the album No Need to Argue, it it stated that the song was written on the 6th of September, 1992, which is the day Dolores O'Riordan turned 21. To me, it's the point where you get up and realize that even if you could have that which you really want, if you only tried a bit harder - a bit more, it's not worth it any longer. (There's actually a line in the song that goes along with that in my opinion: "You took my thoughts from me, now I want nothing more") Whether it's the childhood dreams you couldn't reach, a love that remained unrequited, or whatever, I see it as the point where you accept that it is what it is and move on. And about the line where she sings " 'cause I've found it all", I don't know if she means her band or not, or if she means that she's turned 21, I interpret it as being the strength to accept and let go. But it's just my insignificant interpretation.
Was the band when i was Young, Thank You So Much for Your songs, my sister and i adore really Love. Number 1 album in the 90's. ..R.I.P wish you could stay with Us for more Original Songs. We Love you.
When I listen to this song it seems like Dolores is singing to this year 2021 and, how we won't let the pandemic get to us anymore. I miss Dolores and Cranberries, I miss their music.
What a beautiful and sad song. Dolores written it. She was abused when she was a kid and this song is about it... I'm so sad for her. Rest in Pearce Dolores.
I just need to vent since I have no one to really talk to about this. I lost my best friend of 11 years to suicide in October last year. I found this song when I was maybe 13 years old, and was always looking forward to hearing it on my 21st birthday since it was my favorite. I dunno why, it just had a lot of sentimental meaning to me and I felt like it would be like a congratulations to myself for making it to 21 years old and to keep pushing. My birthday is in October and I ended up playing it the night of my birthday. It felt so magical as I’d expected and I thought about my friends and my life and how much it had changed up until that point. And I thought of her. Then a week later I got the news. She was also 21. I dunno, it’s taken me a bit to listen to this song again. I hold it dear to my heart, but It isn’t the bittersweet feeling like before anymore. It just feels like I’m longing for my best friend to come back and reminds me of how young she was. And of the night of my birthday and the thoughts that crossed my mind. And that being the last night I actually saw her. It’s so ironic and cruel that I used to use this song as a reminder to myself that I’d made it to 21, yet her life ended at that same age.
My mom played this very song on my 21st birthday this year on February 2, 2021 I turned 21 and my mom played 21 2121 I found it all 21 by The Cranberries it was a good birthday and I’m so glad I finally got the song 21 played I was so happy that I got the song 21 played on my 21st birthday I always wanted the song 21 to be played on my 21st birthday ever since I became a fan at the age of nine years old
