  • The Sedations of Nations: The underlying reasons why our mental health systems are failing
In this presentation, Dr. James Davies calls for major social and economic reform to tackle the crisis in poor mental health outcomes, revealing the political, corporate and economic motives behind the promotion of the medical model, which depoliticises, individualises, commodifies and pathologises our emotional distress - a model, while handsomely serving neoliberal aims and objectives, has presided over decades of worsening clinical outcomes.

The biomedical approach to emotional/ psychological suffering is so popular because it is easier than looking at the underlying issues that are causing the pain.

And the powers that be specifically do not want us looking deeper, because they benefit economically from the way things are now. They don’t want anything to change.

Until WE are uncommoditized as a person / people / society nothing will change.
It's not a bottom up problem but a top down problem, the top being capitalism.
    Profit before People.

After being labelled as having a DEPENDANT PERSONALITY in 1981 ---- and after years of medical neglect ----- I have now been told that i will never walk again ---- this was confirmed yesterday by a doctor who still does not even know the legal spelling of my name. Am I the only one who has been treated like this ?
    I doubt it,

do you mean something akin to being labeled '''somatoform'' disorder, and then medical specialists find there is an effective disease there? or more of them?

Toil and overwork lead to increases in physical injury, but we wouldn't be foolish enough to include that the body is infallible to everything barring environment. That mental illness can occur without cause is evident. The great irony is that by ignoring the lived experience of those with endogenous mental diseases you are engaging in the same silencing strategies employed by the pharmaceutical industry.

Does this individual truly believe that political reform is the answer to the world's growing disillusionment? Wow, he is undoubtedly brilliant. However, I wish that he could see the old paradigm is delipidated and cannot be reorganized. We Baha'is are in the process of erecting a fresh paradigm that serves the world of humanity through just means.

You can look him up. I was fortunate to have Dr Davies as my lecturer. I believe he is still a professor at Roehampton. He can also be found online through his psychotherapy practice.

No doctor has ever assessed my physical condition since 1981 or even bothered to confirm the legal spelling of my name ---- which had caused the muddle in 1981 ----- when i was dosed with Lithium until i was widowed in 1987.
    I have kept 5-year diaries from 1965 --- 2020 ---- described as "ideas of grandeur bordering on delusions" in 2019 ---- and I have been chair-bound since 2020 ----
I have beeen TEMPTED TO PUBLISH MY HILARIOUSLY FUNNY MEDICAL NOTES --- are you interested ? FOR EXAMPLE in 2020 it was said that ----
The second of my three sons, who drowned rescuing a deep sea fishing colleague in 1997 was aged 30 years old before he was born ----
That I have an "unspecified uterine prolapse" after the hysterectomy in 1988 ----
And that a Cerebrovascular accident in June 2016 and a Transient ischaemic attack in November 2016 were due to BIPOLA DISORDER ---

I feel sorry for what you've been through. I had been put under antidepressants and antipsychotics to numb pain. afterwards, a good dentist helped me, a good chiropractor as well, a good gynaecologist, etc., etc.,

Clearly, Davies is very confused, tying himself up in knots because he thinks psychiatry is a single exception to the idea that medicine is a success story. Wow!
