A fantastic video, I live in Crawley and always wanted to know the exact route of the Worth Way walk. Thank you for the detailed history of the old railway line, it is very much appreciated 👏 👍👍
Where Old Station House is, unsurprisingly there used to be a coal yard, and when the works started for Beeching Way we rehomed a couple of kittens from a litter that lived there 😊
The 400 bus from Caterham via Redhill runs over two similar bridges as it enters East Grinstead. The first crosses the trackbed of the North to East link line, which is heavily overgrown. The other crosses the active railway just North of East Grinstead station. There have been calls for the line to be reopened but I think it is extremely unlikely to happen. Apart from parts of the line having been built over and the objections from local residents to the loss of Forest Way and Worth Way, and trains running past their homes there would be two other problems; firstly I don’t think there is any possible deviation to bypass the section which has been converted to Beeching Way, so the road would have to be closed. This would increase congestion, rather than reducing it. Secondly, the 291 bus pretty much follows the route of the old railway, with an hourly frequency. I have used it from time to time, and it’s quite a nice ride, but other than at school turning out times it seems to carry few passengers despite usually being operated by double deck vehicles. I cannot see how this small number of passengers could possibly justify the cost of rebuilding the railway.😊
Thank you for joining me! I agree its very unlikely to reopen as there's no major towns on the route. While we may see some new railway stations open/reopen from time we won't be in this area. If anything maybe the Bluebell Railway may open part of the Ardingly Branch.

We did this walk when we lived in Maidenbower so it would have been prior to 1997.
Thank you for joining me! Quite a while ago then and before the Bluebell Railway extended into East Grinstead. Happy New Year.
