    Anyone else notice the look Ragnar gives the back of Bjorn's head. He's like what did I tell you about leaving Rollo behind in Paris?!

      @ravensthatflywiththenightm7319 3 года назад +20

      Aye. But the weird thing is after the Franks raid the Viking camp, Bjorn tells Torvi that it's somehow Ragnar's fault.
      Did that dumbass forget who left Rollo in Frankia in the first place?

      @@tremaynemillner Most likely, Ragnar, after raiding Paris, told Bjorn to leave someone as the leader of the "presence" they wanted to leave there (the superby and arrogance of these two...disgusting), anyone except Rollo (as for the Seer's prophecy about the Bear crowned by the Princess). But Bjorn, who didn't know that prophecy and believed in his uncle, left him. So, the fault is both of Bjorn and Ragnar, because they were so arrogant and naive enough to believe that the Franks would have left those forces safe and sound in their lands after Ragnar has broken the deal with them by playing dead, until their coming back in spring; massive error, especially from the Norse king, who was very well aware that something similar had already happened somewhere else: ie, the extermination of his colony in Wessex by Aethelwulf (and Ecbert); but differently from that one, the Franks were totally justified to eliminate the Vikings left behind who didn't accept Rollo's deal with the Emperor.

      @@abdirahmanabdirashid3767 I understand what you say, but I doubt Ragnar fell with honor, because he had promised his people that they would have sacked Paris a second time, and after he failed, he exiled himself for a while. By "downfall", i simply meant that Ragnar was not a "hero", "a legend", but above all, we saw him as ruthless barbarian who wanted to take something which didn't belong to him (Paris) and he never mentioned wanting lands there in Frankia, because he believed, after the Wessex matter, it would never have been a chance of coexistence between their two people and faiths (and for some aspects, he was right).
      Rollo instead fell in dishonor among his people far before Paris and getting Normandy: he fell in disgraced (and he deserved it) when he first rebelled and fought against his brother in s2, for he had wanted something that didn't belong to him (Kattegat and Lagertha, his brother's wife). But, at the same time, during s2 e s3, he tried to make amends and searched for forgiveness from his brother and people; but they gave it very few, as Ragnar did not do anything to him when Rollo had defended Kattegat and his family from Jarl BorgNow, in Frankia he didn't take away nothing from his sibling (for Normandy and princess Gisla did not belong to Ragnar) and he was trying to defend what was legittimately his, as Ragnar and co. were not forced to attack absolutely Paris: they could have gone anywhere (maybe in Wessex, avengening the slaughter of his colony, of which is duty as their king); but Ragnar, not accepting that Rollo was successfully gaining what he had dreamed once, a place in what he considered Athelstan's world, and because he wasn't the one famous admired by people of a different culture (as Charles and Gisla surely did not admire him, contrary to Ecbert and Cwenthrith), decided otherwise. And Rollo, as the first Duke of Normandy acted by conseguence.

      @@cristinademartini1284 reasonable point of view, eventhough ragnar was not right and went after things he didnt own, there is nothing dishonourable in invasions, it was there from start of humanity until our last day. ragnar could have gone to paris due to jealousy of rollo getting what he wanted but i think and as seen through ragnar's pain that he just couldnt bear a brother's betrayel which involves sadness and anger hence attack paris. lastly, losing is never dishonourable, its part of war and life so i believe eventhough ragnar didnt have a very strong cause, he was just an adventerous man who didnt want to settle in one place

      @@abdirahmanabdirashid3767 Your point of view is also reasonable, and i agree with you that invasions are a much important part of mankind's history (although, i despise the raping, like the one the two norse brothers did to the frank farm's family... but sadly that's the other coin of war: it is always the innocents who pay the most), but i think you'd be agreeing with me that as it is "allowed" to invade another country, and Ragnar as you said he felt justified doing it because of the pain of Rollo's brother (but i honestly believed it would have been avoided if he had rewarded his sibling with something for his loyalty in s2 e s3; still, it is also true that the foundation of Normandy is an historical fact and it would have happened anyway), it is also justified and, imho, more honorable, doing everything in order to defend yourself from being pillaged, or worse, invaded: hence, the Franks taking Rollo to their side to better know the Norses' tactics of war. One part or another was fated to lose and to win: about Paris, it was fated that the Vikigs would loose, and that the Franks would win.
