Without going too deep into plot territory there is actually a very valid reason why all the characters in this have utterly insane or nonsensical backstories to their lives. Almost as if the series has gone on for TOO long now and the creators were trying to make them stay interesting however they could.
It’s probably because the target demographic for this series is for teens. So like, sure, a teen can destroy the world or run a country no matter how stupid it sounds.
