  • Ida was a Major Hurricane that produced catastrophic results, especially in southeast Louisiana and New England.
After undergoing Very Rapid Intensification over the Gulf of Mexico, it made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a strong Category 4, with deadly winds and storm surge.
Three days later, Ida produced historically high rainfall, and resulting flash flooding in New England, before departing to the Atlantic.
Directly attributed to Ida were 68 deaths in the USA, 82% of those fatalities were in the Northeast where Ida was far from its landfall intensity, but a degenerating extratropical cyclone, still dumping historically high rainfall amounts and producing catastrophic flooding through the Northeast.
