So, just as a safety note: You are vaporizing metal. Microparticles are getting into the air and that can easily enter your lungs. You may already have a setup for that, but if not, I highly recommend it for yourself and anyone that enters your shop. Especially if you have any loved ones using the space ever. Some element of a vacuum + filter to take that away is in my opinion a must for any laser type work. Many materials can be toxic if inhaled, and there is no amount of metal that is safe to be inhaled. Awesome work, good luck on your projects!
Your comment about not catching fire made me wonder what it would do with Magnesium. I know that it burns and can't be put out as easy, and using water makes it burn/flare up. Seen it on shop fires with air compressors. Great Video.

You probably already know this but laser glasses only work for certain ranges/outputs. Make sure you are wearing the correct lenses for the laser in use now that you have several different types. "Don't shoot your eye out." -Ralphie's mom

But just an FYI for anyone who thinks about pirating LightBurn instead of paying for the very reasonable one time license fee: if you use a pirated copy of LightBurn, the software has secret code that will detected its not a legitimate copy and cause it to randomly burn the words "Lightburn is two developers, you are stealing our livelihood." onto a random area of your work piece ever so often! .... don't ask me how I know 😂
I've been thinking about taking the plunge on a fiber laser, and was looking at this one. Still on the fence on this one or another portable/split model.
It is my first so not much experience with others. It seems good for what I want to do. A little more power wouldn't hurt but it is way faster than what I normally use.
@TheClackShack indeed! Once you try Galvo motion systems, gantry feels like walking compared to flying. I 'm building a 90w C02 for cutting, and already, my brain is entertaining a C02 Galvo. 🤣 At 20-40w, I think even a diode Galvo could be possible at 200-300mm² work8ng area. I'd buy one if it weren't $4k.

one thing I wonder; when doing something like the pow-container with high and low parts in the etch, the result seems to not mind the difference in depth, but I wonder if the focus is set to mid of high and low, if the etch is sharper? Yep the thing I would be second concerned about is putting my hand in the way while it is working.... (first is eye protection). I do have another question; eye protection, many people say that the glasses the mfg sends are not the best. Is there a way to verify quality of the eye ware?
Enjoyed your review enough to pull the trigger and buy one (B4 30W). My main project for this machine is marking copper but so far I have had little success. Throughout this process I've been attempting to get some help from ComMarker product support but but this is not going well. Similar to Atezr product support, I get non-specific boneheaded answers to specific questions, repeated requests for stuff I've already sent them, 24 hour delays between responses, many things lost in English to Chinese translation, etc. etc. Have you had this problem? I'm trying to grow a business here and I'm afraid this tool isn't going to work for me. I'm assuming they sent your unit for free, have you used it to make anything?
Luckily, I haven't had to use any of the companies support. I just research and experiment. The fiber is a different animal and the frequency plays a much larger role than I thought. Also, focus is very important. Yes, I have made lots of stuff. challenge coins, dog tags, knife engraves, serialized some parts and done some tumblers.
@@TheClackShack Yes, this machine is super intriguing, incredible detail and speed, I've marked lots of stuff but the main job I bought this for was marking copper. Along the way, I found the 110mm lens had a defect right in the middle forcing me to use the periphery of the 110 mm field, the 200mm lens works but the power is much diminished, the focus motor became intermittent and now the power level seems to be half what it was earlier. I know this stuff can happen on new products sometimes, their support is trying to be helpful, but it just takes so long to get anywhere. Just disappointing!
Curious your thoughts on purchase several months later. My primary purpose would be for engraving tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc. I have literally thousands of tools would like to engrave with good depth and resolution. I have also eyed a 30 watt unit, would like something capable of good speed, penetration, ease of use(is light burn most versatile?), and decent size work area. Secondary purpose would be something I can engrave things like coffee mugs, laptops, Ipad. What say you?
It works good and still does at this point. The depth is good but it requires a few passes for it to dig down. I still enjoy it and have serialized several parts with it.

I got a steal of a deal on my first fiber laser! I ordered a new 30w unit on ebay from a Chinese seller for $1,800 (cheaper than normal because it had a broken Z axis adjustment knob damaged in transit I guess) and 3 weeks after the seller marked it as shipped, the tracking info still showed that the shipping company was still waiting to receive the item from the sellers warehouse, so the seller refunded my order. I immediately went and ordered another unit from a different seller, this one for $1,900 and was a used "re-manufactured" 30W unit. I received the used 30W unit and was shocked a few weeks later when I opened the case to install a rotary axis controller and realized that the actual laser source inside was a 50W raycus! That machine even used should've sold for over $3,000 and I got it for $1,900 😂 but that wasn't the end of the story... two weeks later the first unit I ordered that had already been fully refunded showed up! I held onto it for over a month and never opened it, but the seller never contacted me asking for it back, so I kept it too. So basically I got a brand new 30W unit (just had to fix the Z axis knob which was easy) and a used 50W unit for $1,900 total 😂 and to this day (its been over a year) that first seller never has contacted me about that first unit that I shouldn't have received.
Yep. Fiber/q-switch and MOPA lasers don't do organics, just most metals and some plastics. Unfortunately, there is no one laser for every material or task. Diode, CO2, Fiber/MOPA, and UV: gotta catch them all! 😂

That’s why I use the particulate filter that is behind the machine with the hose over the workpiece.

The number of passes and frequency is what will make parts deeper. I would avoid touching anything while it is working.

ive burned wood but its tedious. glue aluminum foil to the wood and with the right settings will transfer the heat to the wood as a burning.

I also use it to mark parts and tools to keep up with what machine they go to. You can also clean rusty tools

It isn’t made for cutting, it might be possible but I have never tried. At that thickness, I wouldn’t think it would.

Turn your frequency down to 45 it won't heat up as fast don't run at 100%.
Also look for your frequency range 20 to 200?

Holding it steady would be a concern unless gravity was working with you. I really don’t see me using it in that manner.
