Whenever people try to justify having micro transactions in full priced multiplayer games, I always use Splatoon 3 as an example of why these companies don’t need to include them. F2P is a different story though. I never spend money on MTX regardless of the price of the game, but this new generation has been conditioned to think insanely predatory MTX is normal. Looking at you Cod, Madden, FIFA, and NBA 2K

Hang on, how does such an amazing video have less than 400 views?!

gaming industry is at tipping point where it could either become like a gambling industry like vegas or sport betting, or could stay as an entertainment/art industry like film or book industries. I think it’s lack of regulation which created current mobile gaming landscape, or a lot of AAA games riddled with microtransations. because companies are always willing to exploit situations to make maximum profit. I know Nintendo is trying to maintain decency in the industry but if majority of companies are acting like how they are right now, next atari shock in on the horizon, or it will just become a place for companies to prey on people who are addicted to digital gambling. I strongly believe we need a good regulation to keep this industry healthy.

Amazing video but i genuinely cant in good faith say that games with in-game purchases aren't art man.
Polarising example here but look at, pretty much every major gacha game, theres immense passion there, insane unique artistic expression on display. Is their artistic expression diminished by the existence of gacha?

    • @Orange_Swirl
      @Orange_Swirl 9 месяцев назад

For the actual artwork itself, no.
For the game as a whole? Yes. Because the gacha is so baked into the game's design and monetization scheme, it hurts it as a whole.

@@Orange_Swirl even if it hurts the game's artistic merit, that doesn't make it not art

@@kana_emiya It doesn’t really matter whether it’s art, imo. It’s unethical, especially if children or teens are involved. Art doesn’t justify the predatory nature of games with gacha elements or elements which have the goal of frustrating you enough to make in-game purchases. That’s not to say that in-game purchases are inherently unethical, but the way they’re used can be.

i like your videos but your recording/editing settings need a little work because it sounds like your mic is peaking/crispy to me in all your videos.. pretty tough to listen to

To me, there are two kinds of video games, Art and Sport. Minecraft, Breath of the Wild, God of War are art; Call of Duty, Mario Kart, Fortnite are sports. Both can be spoiled by the industry.

The Zelda BotW Amiibo's provided the player with regular high quality weapon drops throughout the game, basically working like cheats making the game much easier.

Yes and in BotW that’s the only way to get wolf Link.

@dylanbanning In game purchases just don't belong anywhere, even on a mobile device.

personally i can't in good fath call Amiibo's "predatory" because:
      1) every Amiibo works on All 3ds, Wii U and Switch games that have Amiibo functionality (which means that just one amiibo can get you all those "rewards")
      2) an Amiibo game pretty much never reminds you of Amiibo support (not counting the places where you can actually use them)
      3) when an specific Amiibo has something special tied to it it's always a "bonus" feature that can be ignored and skipped (from what ive seen they also never advertise the specific Amiibo)

strictly speaking, anything and everything is art. In the case of video games i doubt it will ever go away due to over-monetisation because it's super accesable. Even if you don't want to pay €100 to get your game on a platform like Steam, there is always another platform where you're game can be uploaded for free and the same also goes for engines
video games as a medium are also in a unique place where you don't have to feel bad for enjoying it because you have to actively participate in it (compared to film where it sometimes feeld like you just waisted hours of your life)

I agree but I feel like Fortnite is the only game to correctly do microtransactions because they only change how you look. And the currency they use can be earned for free if you play enough.
