His name is Mike Shinoda. He does make his own solo music and he has/had a side project called Fort Minor. Linkin Park has been made such a huge impact on my life growing up. I was fortunate enough to see them live during the Carnivores Tour while Chester was still with us. Nu Metal has always been one of my favorite genres because it blends rock and hip hop together in a beautiful way. But one of the reasons I have always loved LP is because they also have DJ Hahn who brings in the electronic elements as well. Chester and Mike definitely had something special together.

You know, in 2004 Linkin Park and Jay-Z had a collab (while they were basically the peak of hip-hop and experimental metal/rock), they dropped an album that's each of their biggests hits mixed together, and went on a live tour that was fucking epic. If you're a Jay-Z fan or interested regardless, check out their "Linkin Park feat. Jay-Z - Collision Course: Live 2004". It's kinda like a 10 minute documentary about how it all came together, followed by a 35 mintute live concert that rules.
If you wanna check out individual tracks from it, "Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You", "Jigga What/Faint", "Numb/Encore" are some fucking bangers

Your comment, it hit me pretty hard.
I've been active duty Army for over 10 years. Part of the Army "culture", I guess you could say, is we all develop a very dark, very morbid sense of humor and joke about things most people would never consider poking fun at. Most civilians probably think "they're trained to kill. They're brainwashed. They find death funny. "
The actual truth is: the amount of stress we get put under, the things we have to see, things we have to do, our sleep patterns getting so messed up we develop severe sleeping problems and are capable of functioning with little to no sleep, developing anxiety just from misplacing our military ID or being late to work, the feeling of our hearts stopping and our stomachs coming up our esophagus when we misplaced a serialized piece of equipment that we are liable for, friends whom you consider family leaving the Army or going to another duty station and knowing it is likely you will never see them again, being told that your friend ended their life, anxiety crippling you to the point of being unable to be in or anywhere near crowds of people due to a constant feeling of impending doom, having to quickly make critical decisions under extreme stress and conditions, wanting nothing but to rest, relax, sleep, and imagine it was all a dream. All of this, is just the tip of the iceberg, and the only way to even begin to cope with all of it, be able to keep your emotions in check, be able to temporarily forget about it, is by making horrible jokes about all of it. Because the jokes make it seem a little less real for a short time, and make it feel temporarily that it is not looming over us constantly.
One topic that we make jokes about more then anything else, is suicide. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've said
"I'm gonna go suck start a shotgun."
"I'm gonna go hug a tree with my car."
"I wonder what the barrel of my gun tastes like as the trigger is pulled?"
"I'm gonna go play in traffic during rush hour."
"I think my boot laces will do nicely."
We all say these things to each other with a smile on our faces and we all laugh and have a great time. Then, every day while I'm driving home, and I see a semi truck on the highway, I think about how easy it would be to unbuckle and swerve into that truck head on.
While sitting in my car, trying to mentally prepare for the day, I think and deeply consider "if I take my knife and slash my wrists the long way to bleed out faster, will I pass before someone finds me?"
If I go to a sketchy neighborhood, what would it take for someone to shoot me? Or get a gun and cause chaos so police show up and just have S by cop.
Looking at the balconies of the barracks on base and noticing it only goes up 3 floors and think to myself "no, not tall enough. I'd just be in a lot of pain."
I've made jokes saying to my coworkers "yeah I'm just gonna go home, look at myself in the mirror with disgust and start crying like a little bitch." We all laugh. Little does anyone know, it's not far from reality.
These thoughts are a constant, for me and many, many, MANY others I know. We don't act on these thoughts, there's always something stopping us, but I have had many moments where, as the semi truck passes, my wrist twitches the wheel slightly towards the truck. Holding that knife to my forearm. Seeing a cop walking around downtown and wanting to charge at him with a knife, screaming well in advance so he notices me long before I get anywhere near him, obviously my intent wouldn't be to harm him, but so he would just end it for me.
I hate that these demons are constantly antagonizing me. My antidepressants and counseling barely even helps anymore.
Mental health of my soldiers is so very important to me, I always try to make it the first priority. Having been suffering with mental health problems for years, I didn't want my soldiers to be brushed off like I was. I even got in hot water once because my squad leader and platoon sergeant demanded me to make my soldier cancel his behavioral health counseling appointment because they needed him for a detail. My soldier had scheduled this appointment 3 months prior because that's how long it took for any counselor to be available. And he had told me daily that his mental health was on a downward spiral. I made sure he kept his appointment, I made sure he made it to his appointment, and I made sure he continued to go to counseling. And I was out casted as the NCO who didn't discipline his soldiers.
When you said "Chester was reaching out for help with his song writing", it hit me hard, because I am constantly making these jokes and explaining horrible details of traumatic events for "humor" but it's really me screaming for help. But nobody is listening, or nobody cares.
I was even treated like garbage after spending a week in the hospital on S watch and my commander and 1SG basically accused me of trying to get out of my duties. I felt so unwanted and so expendable that I lost all sense of motivation. Even my wife at the time would brush me off and say I had nothing to complain about, and that she had it worse because she has worse depression then me, worse anxiety then me, she has cystic fibrosis, and so on. I truly felt alone in every aspect of my existence.
I'm slowly getting better, but it's a constant uphill battle every damn day and I often feel "is today the day something happens that pushes me over the edge".
I was/and still am, so sad that Chester passed. I hate that he felt so alone and unheard that he felt the only way to stop the torment was to end it all.
Rest in Peace Chester. You are so deeply missed, this world isn't the same without you

@@reaper4earthcod801i hope you are doing well. Your story is heartbreaking, and i am sure common. You are not alone. So many missed my cries as a teenager. When i believe i was closest to making the thoughts i had reality my brother's best friend, who had been like my brother since i was 5, knocked on my window and called me out to talk. He hadn't seen me in months because we moved away. He asked what was wrong and told me loved me. Being seen in that moment did so much to help. I hope you have found support. I couldn't be happier seeing so many people talking about LP and hearing the collective stories of healing associated with this music. I truly believe that they were miracles in a lot of lives, I can't count the times they have saved me in my own life and many others I know, or how many people were able to work through hard times and survive bad situations because they could feel and hear what they themselves didn't know how to express before hearing LP. It felt OK to express and feel emotions that people try to say are bad or wrong and that we should be patient and understanding, to push those "ugly" feelings down and ignore them, not talk about them to just squish it all in until you forget about them. The lyrics captured my life in music not only did they let me just feel and be myself, it felt good to do so.
RIP Chester and all the miracles you share with the world

Fun fact if someone hasn't already mentioned it: Before their first album released, Chester confirmed their label tried to get rid of Mike Shinoda and therefore their entire rapping aspect. Then Hybrid Theory went Diamond.

I love MVs. I will always watch that. Then live. MVs are an extension of the art of the song. There is vocals and instruments but there is also the way bodies move. The dancing maybe. I want to see what the artist is thinking. Sometimes they tell a personal story in the MV that you can't understand just from audio. If you look at LP's song "What I've Done" it's beautiful but with the visuals they give you in the MV, it's a new experience completely. I absolutely want to see that visual story. I would recommend that MV!

Teddy, you responded to my comment in your first LP reaction. I told how I just lost my son and we used to just sing so loud to them all the time. My parents taught me about the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. as his mom i taught him 80s music and early rap (Sugar Hill gang, etc), early 90s. He was only 17yrs younger than me, so "our music" was this, nu-metal, grunge and alt. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Korn, Chevelle, Deftones. He's been gone 2 months today. This brought tears to my eyes, thinking of him being gone, thinking of how the clock does tick life away, so we've gotta make every day count. I'm so buried in my grief that i listen to the music we loved and that makes me feel closer to him but when i need a break i love BTS and your kpop reactions. Thanks for doing In The End. And again, F**K FEN***YL!!! Keep rocking, Teddy.

Mike Shinoda (the rapper) had a side project rap group called FORT MINOR their most famous song was "Remember the Name". You'll prob remember it if you hear it but its a great song. FORT MINOR really has a linkin park vibe minus that rock element and chester. so completely different lol but similar. kinda sorta. lol not really.

I’m now 65, and have been a rocker since I was 6. Grew up on psychedelic rock, Motown, Beatles weren’t hard enough for me when they came out. So, I was born this way. Not into death metal, speed metal either. I have known so many musicians in every genre and know that those kinds of rock are the simplest to do. No thanks. But to each his/her own. Got off track here. Sorry. My point is, music, for people like us, you, me, your fans, means a lot. We feel it. It moves us. For positivity it’s progression rock band YES. My favorite band. Alice In Chains is amazing. And Linkin Park. So many more to list, but I’ve talked enough. Love your reactions sir! I think music has kept my soul and spirit young. I’ve been a DJ on radio and internet since 80. Such an incredible great life I’ve been given. Thank you for sharing yours with us. ☮️❤️😎🎼

I think people ask for the music in a visual format because your reaction is in a visual format. I personally love reactions to live performances over MV or lyric video because I think the emotion gets through the most in a live performance. But I enjoy music in many formats. Like musical theater. These different media can go hand in hand to support the themes in the music.
As for the meaning of the song. I have struggled with existential questions my whole life. It isn't the happiest conclusion but I just feel like the most we can do for each other is to minimize the suffering while we are here. Everyone has their own way of coping (or not.)

The lyrics are a little bit off. I think it's auto-generated. Here are the actual lyrics.
One thing I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
    To explain in due time
    All I know
    Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
    The clock ticks life away
    It's so unreal
    Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Tryin' to hold on, did-didn't even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside and even though I tried
    It all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually
Be a memory of a time when I tried so hard
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mockin' me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised it got so far
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end
You kept everything inside and even though I tried
    It all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually
Be a memory of a time when I tried so hard
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
    For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
    For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

The reason we ask for you to react to the music videos is because as you get into their later videos it sets the stage for their song "One More Light". LP music videos are just their catalyst to help you understand what they are talking about and makes the lyrics so much deeper. LP doesn't make any bad music videos at all

I've always read this as being about the struggle with depression and CPTSD from the sexual abuse Chester suffered as a child. Being stuck alone up on the tower being a symbol of the isolation that all of those things bring as well as the way abusers isolate their victims and all the time and life lost to those things. The rain at the end being both an out pouring of pain and emotion, finally letting it out after hiding it for so many years, as well as a cleansing of the soul. I used to blast and scream and cry to this song when I was still being abused. Thank you Chester for giving me a voice

Personally, I don't think MV's have to be the worst thing about music. I see it as just another avenue the artist can use to further express themselves, if they choose to. Of course it has become the norm now, to have an MV, and a lot of artists might even do it just because they feel like they have to, and therefore make MV's that don't really matter. But others treat it as an art form of its own, that can be used to get the message of the song out to even more people. I think a good example of this could be NF, who litters his MV's with little details, that all have specific meanings, that can help to further the message of the songs.
So when used correctly, MV's can take the music to the next level. But I do see your point, that some artists don't put that care into the MV's, and just make some generic shit because the consumers want an MV. But that doesn't mean MV's as a whole are bad.
