He sings the song linkin park recently found in files along with all thier other songs of course but they never released the song on the hybrid album it would be Chester's last song to the world it is called lost. I grew up in a very Christian family in the US. The only music we ever listened to on car trips and such was contemporary christian music or country. Then in 8th grade I heard this album at a friends birthday party, and bought a copy as soon as I could. For the first time someone was talking about the depression and pain that I was living with. For the first time ther was someone who understood what I felt. I still live with mental illness, and I still have that CD in its original case out where I can see it. Because when I am down, when I am suffering, when I am trapped in the darkest corners of my mind, this music is there to to show me that I am not alone. I am glad that they can be there for you too.

Chester has saved countless lives. His music helped us cope and help us feel not alone. The lives he saved, couldn't save him. He was so loved by millions but his demons and trauma was stronger. I miss him and his music. He's saved my life.
They weren't..."stronger"...per se. Fighting these mental health battles isn't like a street fight. It's like a war. And you have to fight it like a war. You have an army of sorts, in your thoughts and feelings. But so does the "enemy". You need to keep your side better supplied, better trained...you need to know what you're doing, get intel on your foe, and use it. THAT is why it's so hard. To face your inner demons is to face not one foe, but a legion of adversaries. And you need to handle it that way. You fight an army with an army. As much as he tried, and as much as others tried to help, what happened to him happens to many others. Too uncoordinated in their efforts, too much pressure. Push your troops too far, and they eventually break. If they break too many times...some of them turn. It's a sad consequence of our deep lack of understanding about both neuroscience and sociology. And frankly, philosophy, as well. It's a failure of not just the world's views and efforts toward mental healthcare, but the world's methods of education as well. Chester and those like him deserved better. Everyone does.

Linkin park will always be my favorite band. I will miss Chester forever. Such a huge loss. 😭 To give you some background- Chester had a rough life. He was sexually abused by a family friend from the ages of 7 to 13. He was addicted to alcohol and drugs early on. The band really helped him. Chester passed in 2017. He could sing like an angel and scream like the devil. The other singer/rapper is Mike Shinoda also very talented. He plays piano, guitar, wrote all the music with Chester and other band members. He's also an amazing producer. You know, this is the first time I’ve cried listening to this song. I’ve heard it hundreds of times, I’ve seen dozens of reactions, including people who were going through the meaning of the lyrics. And I’m lucky enough to have been raised in a more or less understanding environment, with my parents supporting and loving me even though they didn’t understand my choices for career development or others. I think more than anything my mother is actually happy that I didn’t follow her steps, because her career as a school teacher in Russia for the last 30 years led to nothing but poverty and oppression from the officials - but she feels that she can teach those kids something, and it’s her calling. She was I think the happiest person when I didn’t become a teacher like her, and she didn’t like, but understood completely when I wasted two years of my life working very low wage job as a gaming journalist, because I LIKED it and was happy to get into that industry even if the job itself was to put it mildly less than sufficient for survival. But this song and your reaction just now made me appreciate it all a lot, and I broke at “I may end up failing too, but I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you”. I had a lot of close friends and schoolmates who were raised in such environments, and I don’t think I understood what they were going through just because even being raised without a father or without money to spare, I was mostly a lot happier than some of them, with parents who were drinking, or demanding, or beating them or just completely disrespecting them verbally. I had a friend in I think 3-8th grade, who was such a massive Linkin Park fan that it literally was the only band he listened to, I think he was the one to introduce me to them. But I had no idea back then, because I started learning English properly way, way later. And I think I’ve only now just realized how much this song and pretty much everything Chester and Mike wrote was speaking to him.
Their song "Crawling" came out when I was about 15 and had just developed a really scary (for me) mental illness. It wasn't a time when there was any really good support for mental health, especially for kids, and I felt ao ashamed that I just couldn't tell anyone. So I suffered in silence and cried in my room, but whenever Crawling came on the radio, god it was so cathartic. I hope you get a chance to listen to it. And i'm so much better now. :)
Same, tbh. I could never figure out why Linkin Park resonated with me so much, until a good 12 years later when I was getting treatment for my depression and I could look back and pinpoint the fact that Linkin Park put words to feelings I was unable to express. I know a lot of people rag on them-=-or they used to-- but Linkin Park is a band close to my heart and important to me for the support it gave in confusing and trying times.
Same. I discovered LP at 12 y/o, and basically permanently borrowed Hybrid Theory from my older brother. I listened to it on repeat. Then later alternated between that and Shinedown's Leave a Whisper. They both were able to help me process my complicated emotions surrounding being neurotypical + childhood trauma + my mom being terminally ill. I don't know what I would've done without their music. Eventually God rescued me out of that pit a few years later, but I'll never forget the role LP had in my life so early on.
I first heard "One Step Closer" I believe in Middle School and that was groundbreaking for me. It was 'screamo' but was different because of the 'rap-rock' sub-genre. But the lyrics weren't about some girl or about trying to be different...it was about going through a mental breakdown and no one understanding how close someone is to breaking until it's too late. A feeling I was dealing with from the age of 10yrs old to 25. For once, I felt like I was being heard...just by listening to Linkin Park.
Crawling is such a damn good song. All of their songs in Meteor and Hybrid were amazing. I love Crawling and Numb both. Numb because I was one of those nerdy artist in school, and Crawling now because of my own mental health struggles. Maybe its because he was pouring his own pain and struggles into his music, that it really reaches out to and means something to those of us who've gone through similar things. That sort of "I'm not alone in this" feeling that kinda comforts you. Specially back in the 90s/2000s when mental health was still something rarely touched on by society.
Hi Teddy. Here is a spanish 43 year-old-daddy from Madrid. English was not my first language but when this song burst out in my ears in 2003, twenty years ago, I felt EXACTLY the same sensation you have shown in your honest reaction. And because of the same reason: understand the difference between the parents to their children, but also how similar every generation is just desperately seeking to build our own path in life. This song helped me 20 years ago, and now I have children helps me again because of the perspective it gave me then. Do not worry about your tears, because that only show you have a soul and you are doing well your own path, mate. So, at this point, only I can suggest you is looking for Linking Park album "Meteora" and book around 2 hours of life just for yourself. Linkin Park was the first band (and artist in general) I've ever loved and they'll always have a place in my heart. Their lyrics saved me so many times, I couldn't help but cry watching to this reaction too. That's a simple but powerful song, that's why it hits so hard. New sub here, but I HAVE to say, it's beautiful to see someone discover LP and actually FEEL Chester's words in their soul. That's what he wanted. He didn't just sing cuz he was good at it. He sang what was in his soul and shared it with us. The range in his voice is his range of emotions. The angels wept when he died. I know I did.
Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington wrote the songs for Linkin Park for the first 6 albums. When they did the last Linkin Park album One More Light they decided to bring in some outside songwriters to try something different. Linkin Park was pretty much a self sufficient band because they had pretty much everything needed to make them famous. Every member of Linkin Park is multi-talented. This song is 20 years old and has over 2 billion views on RUclips. The music video is 19 years old this year. You won't find a bad Linkin Park song. Some of my personal favorites are One Step Closer, High Voltage (a hip-hop song), Points of Authority, No More Sorrow, Chester's cover of Rolling in the Deep by Adele, and Heavy (from their last album).
Even more, they reinvented themselves many, MANY times over the course of their career. At first I was mad when I expected 'more of the same' from their third or fourth albums, for example, because I'd fallen in love with their original sound from both 'Hybrid Theory' and 'Reanimation', and even reanimation was a different take on the former. I learned after about three or four sessions sitting down and just playing through the entirety of Meteora at a shot something that would serve me well for all the later albums: Learn to love the differences. Embrace the new styles. Because everything later was almost, but not entirely, completely different, while having that same signature sound to their voices. All of it still spoke to you the same way the early albums did. I think everyone who grew up with LP feels kind of the same way: This is the soundtrack to our lives, much the way the Beatles were for folks in the 60s and 70s, or ACDC and others were in the 80s.
They tried something new every album, there was no resting on what they established for a their sound. It's something I love about them, and will continue to love even if they will no longer produce any more albums. And I won't feel abandoned if they do stop, Chester's loss was hard on everyone involved with Linkin Park, the band themselves, the fans, their tour crew. I can't think of anyone who could replace, let alone reproduce, the sound and vocal style that Chester had.
I'm 45 with a 23 year old son that I don't have the best relationship with. He was born shortly after Linkin Park really hit the scene, so I remember them from the beginning, but I've had my own struggles through the years and their music came back to me a couple years ago. It helped me a lot even as a grown man, because my son could easily be singing this song to me. Go for the ride bro. They have so much more great music. And once again, great reaction. I believe " one more light" from Linkin Park could be an amazing choice for you, it has Chester (the leadsinger) in his raw voice with a very simple instrumentation and the story it tells can reach anyones heart in my opinion. For the fans this meant a lot as it felt like Chester could see you, for Chester it meant a lot because his best friend died and for Linkin Park it meant a lot because Chester died soon after the release. It is another example of a song that has so many meanings depending on the listener.
If you wanna hear Chester’s ability to scream and continue to sing after listen to “ given up” but do the live one. These song are so relatable to so many. They help me personally feel my feelings instead of just living with them constantly idk if that makes sense
Linkin Park, they are my whole adolescence. Thanks to them, I was able to put words on my pains and externalize them to feel so much better. "Numb" was the first song that helped me. The lyrics, the music, the energy, the emotion of this song has something catharsis. If you’re young, if you feel lost, if you want someone to shout or scream for you, feel free to go listen to Linkin Park, don't be hesitate. Really. I understand you, Teddy, when you’re a parent, you don’t want your children to experience what you’ve experienced, especially when you come from far away. Do not repeat our mistakes, live the same pains. It’s hard. Because we can’t and we can’t protect them from everything. Omg I felt that so much when you're talking about your parents. Both of my parents are also alcoholics and even though I got caught up in the drinking in my younger years, I now haven't had a drink in years and my kids have never seen me drunk. My grandparents also were heavy drinkers. We CAN break those generational curses. Chester was just the most relatable guy. I truly think that's why they blew up so big. He could speak to anyone's pain. We lost a real one when we lost him.

I believe am about 15 yrs older than you and when this song came out, in my part of the world it was played so often for so long, that even though I originally loved it, it was to the point that I never revisited it for the last decade at least because it was so overplayed. But to watch someone listening for the first time and connecting to it so emotionally, it was like hearing it again for the first time and I can remember how it felt to be that past version of me. This is the real magic of reaction channels but it takes someone like you to be willing to be so emotionally open on camera and not just casually throwing a judgement of good vs. bad at it. Yes Teddy, they re-mixed this song with Jay-Z. Thats probably where you’ve heard it before. Linkin Park has so many relatable songs and I’m sure you will love them as much as millions have already. Their library is huge but I would try Faint, Crawling, Papercut, In The End, or One Step Closer next. Papercut has more rap in it and One Step Closer has a little more metal and aggression.

Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability. Knowing you don't have to post an emotional reaction but do, crushes the stigma around expressing difficult things - especially for young men. So glad you're exploring new genres. I think most of us superglued ourselves to a genre on our way to adulthood, and it takes time to realize that loving one genre doesn't have to mean ignoring others. In the 80s, it seemed you could only like rock or rap, but not both. (Which I skipped altogether going the punk/alternative route.) Probably the reason why I'm just now seriously opening myself up to hip-hop/rap, so I'm on the other side of your coin. Later, I was listening to the Cranberries, not Tupac. I've been listening to Linkin Park from day 1 and I'm 54 now and will always love them. The day Chester died I felt like I lost part of me. In the end is my favorite song by them❤
You're reaction is pretty much how I felt as a teen hearing this. Hearing his pain, made me feel like I wasn't alone in what I was feeling, and with that was she sheer amount of empathy I felt with all that felt it. Check out the first concert after Chester died. The crowd singing instead of him, you could feel the mourning.

This is one of those tracks that defines a lot of my life... both in the songs content and also because of where I was in my life when this song came out - one of the many reasons why Linkin Park was one of a kind and still is to this day... Chester was an insane vocalist, his pain and emotions were always front and center.

One of the biggest emotional reactions in my life was right after Chester died Godsmack did a tribute in VR (I was an early adopter) infront of a live audience in a park talking about mental health. I broke down completely.

This band got me through my teens. Without Chester's voice, and the music of LP, I don't know if I would be here still. I am so in love with Chester 💔 I saw their last ever show. It was incredible. Chester was so, so beautiful 💔 Chester and Mike wrote most of the lyrics (the beautiful one, and the piano player/backing vocalist). Chester had a lot of really awful things happen to him as a child, and he was ruthlessly bullied in school. He struggled with substances for most of his life. Linkin park was my introduction to rock music when they first came out when i was in 5th grade. A friend had their album and he let me borrow it and i fell in love. I grew up with them. Idk what i would have done growing up without them as their music got me through a lot. I'm 32 now but they will forever hold a place in my heart.

I grew up in a very Christian family in the US. The only music we ever listened to on car trips and such was contemporary christian music or country. Then in 8th grade I heard this album at a friends birthday party, and bought a copy as soon as I could. For the first time someone was talking about the depression and pain that I was living with. For the first time ther was someone who understood what I felt. I still live with mental illness, and I still have that CD in its original case out where I can see it. Because when I am down, when I am suffering, when I am trapped in the darkest corners of my mind, this music is there to to show me that I am not alone. I am glad that they can be there for you too.

They weren't..."stronger"...per se. Fighting these mental health battles isn't like a street fight. It's like a war. And you have to fight it like a war. You have an army of sorts, in your thoughts and feelings. But so does the "enemy". You need to keep your side better supplied, better trained...you need to know what you're doing, get intel on your foe, and use it.
THAT is why it's so hard. To face your inner demons is to face not one foe, but a legion of adversaries. And you need to handle it that way. You fight an army with an army.
As much as he tried, and as much as others tried to help, what happened to him happens to many others. Too uncoordinated in their efforts, too much pressure. Push your troops too far, and they eventually break. If they break too many times...some of them turn.
It's a sad consequence of our deep lack of understanding about both neuroscience and sociology. And frankly, philosophy, as well. It's a failure of not just the world's views and efforts toward mental healthcare, but the world's methods of education as well. Chester and those like him deserved better. Everyone does.

You know, this is the first time I’ve cried listening to this song. I’ve heard it hundreds of times, I’ve seen dozens of reactions, including people who were going through the meaning of the lyrics. And I’m lucky enough to have been raised in a more or less understanding environment, with my parents supporting and loving me even though they didn’t understand my choices for career development or others. I think more than anything my mother is actually happy that I didn’t follow her steps, because her career as a school teacher in Russia for the last 30 years led to nothing but poverty and oppression from the officials - but she feels that she can teach those kids something, and it’s her calling. She was I think the happiest person when I didn’t become a teacher like her, and she didn’t like, but understood completely when I wasted two years of my life working very low wage job as a gaming journalist, because I LIKED it and was happy to get into that industry even if the job itself was to put it mildly less than sufficient for survival. But this song and your reaction just now made me appreciate it all a lot, and I broke at “I may end up failing too, but I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you”. I had a lot of close friends and schoolmates who were raised in such environments, and I don’t think I understood what they were going through just because even being raised without a father or without money to spare, I was mostly a lot happier than some of them, with parents who were drinking, or demanding, or beating them or just completely disrespecting them verbally. I had a friend in I think 3-8th grade, who was such a massive Linkin Park fan that it literally was the only band he listened to, I think he was the one to introduce me to them. But I had no idea back then, because I started learning English properly way, way later. And I think I’ve only now just realized how much this song and pretty much everything Chester and Mike wrote was speaking to him.
Their song "Crawling" came out when I was about 15 and had just developed a really scary (for me) mental illness. It wasn't a time when there was any really good support for mental health, especially for kids, and I felt ao ashamed that I just couldn't tell anyone. So I suffered in silence and cried in my room, but whenever Crawling came on the radio, god it was so cathartic. I hope you get a chance to listen to it. And i'm so much better now. :)

I could never figure out why Linkin Park resonated with me so much, until a good 12 years later when I was getting treatment for my depression and I could look back and pinpoint the fact that Linkin Park put words to feelings I was unable to express. I know a lot of people rag on them-=-or they used to-- but Linkin Park is a band close to my heart and important to me for the support it gave in confusing and trying times.

Same. I discovered LP at 12 y/o, and basically permanently borrowed Hybrid Theory from my older brother. I listened to it on repeat. Then later alternated between that and Shinedown's Leave a Whisper. They both were able to help me process my complicated emotions surrounding being neurotypical + childhood trauma + my mom being terminally ill. I don't know what I would've done without their music. Eventually God rescued me out of that pit a few years later, but I'll never forget the role LP had in my life so early on.
I first heard "One Step Closer" I believe in Middle School and that was groundbreaking for me. It was 'screamo' but was different because of the 'rap-rock' sub-genre. But the lyrics weren't about some girl or about trying to be different...it was about going through a mental breakdown and no one understanding how close someone is to breaking until it's too late. A feeling I was dealing with from the age of 10yrs old to 25. For once, I felt like I was being heard...just by listening to Linkin Park.
Crawling is such a damn good song. All of their songs in Meteor and Hybrid were amazing. I love Crawling and Numb both. Numb because I was one of those nerdy artist in school, and Crawling now because of my own mental health struggles. Maybe its because he was pouring his own pain and struggles into his music, that it really reaches out to and means something to those of us who've gone through similar things. That sort of "I'm not alone in this" feeling that kinda comforts you. Specially back in the 90s/2000s when mental health was still something rarely touched on by society.
Hi Teddy. Here is a spanish 43 year-old-daddy from Madrid. English was not my first language but when this song burst out in my ears in 2003, twenty years ago, I felt EXACTLY the same sensation you have shown in your honest reaction. And because of the same reason: understand the difference between the parents to their children, but also how similar every generation is just desperately seeking to build our own path in life. This song helped me 20 years ago, and now I have children helps me again because of the perspective it gave me then. Do not worry about your tears, because that only show you have a soul and you are doing well your own path, mate.

New sub here, but I HAVE to say, it's beautiful to see someone discover LP and actually FEEL Chester's words in their soul. That's what he wanted. He didn't just sing cuz he was good at it. He sang what was in his soul and shared it with us. The range in his voice is his range of emotions. The angels wept when he died. I know I did.
Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington wrote the songs for Linkin Park for the first 6 albums. When they did the last Linkin Park album One More Light they decided to bring in some outside songwriters to try something different. Linkin Park was pretty much a self sufficient band because they had pretty much everything needed to make them famous. Every member of Linkin Park is multi-talented.
This song is 20 years old and has over 2 billion views on RUclips. The music video is 19 years old this year.
You won't find a bad Linkin Park song. Some of my personal favorites are One Step Closer, High Voltage (a hip-hop song), Points of Authority, No More Sorrow, Chester's cover of Rolling in the Deep by Adele, and Heavy (from their last album).

Even more, they reinvented themselves many, MANY times over the course of their career. At first I was mad when I expected 'more of the same' from their third or fourth albums, for example, because I'd fallen in love with their original sound from both 'Hybrid Theory' and 'Reanimation', and even reanimation was a different take on the former.
I learned after about three or four sessions sitting down and just playing through the entirety of Meteora at a shot something that would serve me well for all the later albums: Learn to love the differences. Embrace the new styles. Because everything later was almost, but not entirely, completely different, while having that same signature sound to their voices. All of it still spoke to you the same way the early albums did.
I think everyone who grew up with LP feels kind of the same way: This is the soundtrack to our lives, much the way the Beatles were for folks in the 60s and 70s, or ACDC and others were in the 80s.
They tried something new every album, there was no resting on what they established for a their sound. It's something I love about them, and will continue to love even if they will no longer produce any more albums. And I won't feel abandoned if they do stop, Chester's loss was hard on everyone involved with Linkin Park, the band themselves, the fans, their tour crew. I can't think of anyone who could replace, let alone reproduce, the sound and vocal style that Chester had.

I'm 45 with a 23 year old son that I don't have the best relationship with. He was born shortly after Linkin Park really hit the scene, so I remember them from the beginning, but I've had my own struggles through the years and their music came back to me a couple years ago. It helped me a lot even as a grown man, because my son could easily be singing this song to me. Go for the ride bro. They have so much more great music. And once again, great reaction. I feel the feels.

I believe " one more light" from Linkin Park could be an amazing choice for you, it has Chester (the leadsinger) in his raw voice with a very simple instrumentation and the story it tells can reach anyones heart in my opinion. For the fans this meant a lot as it felt like Chester could see you, for Chester it meant a lot because his best friend died and for Linkin Park it meant a lot because Chester died soon after the release. It is another example of a song that has so many meanings depending on the listener.
Chester was an amazing soul but very tortured. He is missed by his fans and his music will live on to remember what a wonderful person he was.

Omg I felt that so much when you're talking about your parents. Both of my parents are also alcoholics and even though I got caught up in the drinking in my younger years, I now haven't had a drink in years and my kids have never seen me drunk. My grandparents also were heavy drinkers. We CAN break those generational curses. Chester was just the most relatable guy. I truly think that's why they blew up so big. He could speak to anyone's pain. We lost a real one when we lost him.

I believe am about 15 yrs older than you and when this song came out, in my part of the world it was played so often for so long, that even though I originally loved it, it was to the point that I never revisited it for the last decade at least because it was so overplayed.
But to watch someone listening for the first time and connecting to it so emotionally, it was like hearing it again for the first time and I can remember how it felt to be that past version of me. This is the real magic of reaction channels but it takes someone like you to be willing to be so emotionally open on camera and not just casually throwing a judgement of good vs. bad at it. Yes Teddy, they re-mixed this song with Jay-Z. Thats probably where you’ve heard it before. Linkin Park has so many relatable songs and I’m sure you will love them as much as millions have already. Their library is huge but I would try Faint, Crawling, Papercut, In The End, or One Step Closer next. Papercut has more rap in it and One Step Closer has a little more metal and aggression.
They didn’t even just remix it, Jay-Z and Mike Shinoda decided they should just re-record everything for all the songs on Collision Course.

So glad you're exploring new genres. I think most of us superglued ourselves to a genre on our way to adulthood, and it takes time to realize that loving one genre doesn't have to mean ignoring others. In the 80s, it seemed you could only like rock or rap, but not both. (Which I skipped altogether going the punk/alternative route.) Probably the reason why I'm just now seriously opening myself up to hip-hop/rap, so I'm on the other side of your coin. Later, I was listening to the Cranberries, not Tupac. Discovering Ren has really diversified my feeds. I'm learning.

Hearing his pain, made me feel like I wasn't alone in what I was feeling, and with that was she sheer amount of empathy I felt with all that felt it. Check out the first concert after Chester died. The crowd singing instead of him, you could feel the mourning.

This is one of those tracks that defines a lot of my life... both in the songs content and also because of where I was in my life when this song came out - one of the many reasons why Linkin Park was one of a kind and still is to this day... Chester was an insane vocalist, his pain and emotions were always front and center.

Linkin park was my introduction to rock music when they first came out when i was in 5th grade. A friend had their album and he let me borrow it and i fell in love. I grew up with them. Idk what i would have done growing up without them as their music got me through a lot. I'm 32 now but they will forever hold a place in my heart.
