My mother visited Scotland when I was very little and I believe this castle is one of the places she went to see.

What a wonderful tale! Knights from the King Arthur sagas would instantly recognise the conflicting demands of love and comradeship, and the necessary balance of courage and craftiness.

A few years ago now I was fortunate enough to be able to see Culloden and the museum there. While they didn't have any garters or if they did, I missed them, they did have a pair of braces (suspenders for US readers) that had a Jacobite message woven into them. To me they seemed surprisingly modern, I tend to think of clothing with political messages printed on it as relatively recent, I had thought that until about 70 years ago it was more usual for people to signal political leanings with either colours or particular garments or styles of garments.
I also have to admire the amount of time that must have gone into weaving those braces, that sort of weaving is very slow going.

There is nothing that is more magical in Scotland, than spending a few nights with a fire by the side of Loch Ness.
