    As a MacLeod descendant, I appreciate the folklore behind the Fairy Flag. I was given a printed copy of the flag many years ago by my aunt, who told me the story of its origin. I have carried it with me ever since, including during my military service in Iraq.

      Not lost brother, I'm a mcleod.. it was amazing what I was able to find doing geneology searches on some of the ancestry sites,,, like my side of the family were loyalists during the revolutionary war, and fought in a highland regiment. his land was siezed and his family moved to the frontier...which is now present day Alabama ... But you would also find that quite a few have already traced the lineage all the way back as far as the 1300s... you just need to discover which branch you are from. shealbhú go tapa lucks

      @@williammcleod192Are you still in Alabama?? I find that interesting, because I used to hear certain people from Alabama that sounded identical to a certain Scottish dialect. I grew up in that area. Once, when I heard an interview with Sheena Easton speaking, I told my husband that I couldn't believe she was from Alabama. I later discovered that she was from Lanarkshire. I have always analysed accents from early childhood. Later, I earned a degree in Linguistics at the University, so that I could better understand them. That was just one of the reasons.

    I always been fascinated by the story of the McLeods. When my mom remarried, she married a Mc Leod. His dad was, if i remember correctly he was the president of the Clan McLeod soceity. He traveled all over the world. He told me many stories about the history of the McLeods. I wish i knew something about the history of the Parretts which is my last name.

    I'm a McLeod.
    As a baby, I had a very rare blood.
    3 people in the world had it, according to the world blood bank. And my spleen was intent on killing my blood, as it thought it was an anti body. Once the spleen was removed, and the blood found, I survived, and have never looked back. I'm positive that being a Mcleod helped me survive.

The opera "The Immortal Hour" was about the Faery princess who marries a King for a year and a day and then returns to the Sidhe. Some think a Faery women inspired William Sharp's writing....

    The marriage between the fairy and human might be the inspiration to JRR Tolkien as Fairy actually basically mean elf. Not the modern understanding and the human and elf must be the inspiration of Beren and Luthien.
    And since I believe in traditional folklore I whole heartedly believe someone out there is part Elf in Scotland.

    Thoroughly enjoyable story about the fairy flag of Dunvegan castle, i prefer the one on Harald Hanrada.i visited the castle a few years ago and saw the flag in its framed picture its certainly a ragged remnant of curiosity and it makes one wonder if it really was a magical relic from fairyland or not. Personally speaking id like to think it was.

    I had a dram about this flag a few weeks back. So Im walking up stone stairs to see this "Fairy Flag" and someone is explaining to me that it can only be used three times to rejuvenate the land...and that it's already been used twice. So we walk into this moldering room and I see this Fairy Flag and immediately start weeping...like weeping so hard I can see my tears splashing on the ground as I roll up into a ball. Next people are helping me up and rushing me out of the room and down the stairs where I start to get hold of myself and three clean shaven men with long black hair and violet eyes hand me an old rapier. I take the weapon, tears still all over my face, and these three black haired men bow to me and rush out the main gate of this castle. I start to follow them but look back over my shoulder at the high room with the Fairy Flag....and the window flashes like lightning. I turn and take off full run after the other three men who have now made it to the forest. I run as fast as I can but I can barely catch up with them.....and then I wake up gasping for air.

    Hi, Liath: As a descendant of Clan MacLeod, it is nice to know that the truth about the history of the Clan is being retold is being told accurately. I tend to believe the version of my great grandfather Harald Hafdansson nine or ten generations removed bringing the fairy flag with him into battle. I tend to believe that the stories about this flag's magical properties were meant to inspire my kinsmen to stay strong in the face of adversity.

    • @LiathWolf
      @LiathWolf  Год назад +1

    I got DNA kits for myself and my children for Christmas. I have since learned that I'm mostly Scottish! What's interesting is that I've always been fascinated with Scotland and Ireland even as a child; though I wasn't raised with this information. One of my favorite movies growing up was Darby O'Gill And The Little People. To be honest...I still watch it a lot and I'm half a century years old! 😂 It really makes me wonder about how much of our tastes are actually in our DNA, yuh know?
    My home is decorated like a comfy castle and I've always had a way with the animals and plants. I even still dress up as a fae for Halloween! 😜
    It's been so exciting to learn about Scotland's traditions and great history. That it's my family's lineage is awesome!. I have always wanted to visit there and I learn something new every day as I search records. When I do, I hope to be able to visit any ancestors that I have there.
    Thank you for being a part of my adventure and learning! Your knowledge is much appreciated! 🙏🏼💚
