What should I do with whatsapp data since 2012?

For the very same reasons I completely stopped using WhatsApp. It has been 2 years and I have never looked back since. I am so glad I am not the only one feeling this way about such apps and social media.

It has been great. At first it felt weird and people were confused as to why I had done such a thing. I told them if they wanted to contact me, they could still text me or call me, that it didn’t make any difference. I realised that most of those people who would text me day and night to ask favours or questions on WhatsApp disappeared. It became this informal platform where there is no room for privacy. People expect you to answer immediately and they can even see if you read the message or not. Anyways, in the end my true friends actually have gotten used to it and now I have no problem. If I really need WhatsApp for group messaging I get someone’s phone number and tell them kindly to inform me if something important happens. Sometimes people need photos, I simply ask their emails instead of phone number. I realised that it also creates this barrier, people take you more seriously and it feels a lot formal.

I didn’t use voice messages that often. It is somewhere between texting and calling so it has always been “weird” to me. Honestly if I want to talk long enough I call my friends which they have gotten used to and we started to find it to be more meaningful. We don’t call each other that frequently but when we do we have a lot to share. For informal chats, I use old fashioned text messages still. Plus, I have an iPhone and so does many people including my family. So I use iMessage when needed, it is a very good application specifically if you want to send pictures or voice messages. Good side of it is that nobody knows when or if you are online. You could use that if you also have an iPhone and if you want a more smooth transition.

Are you still keeping away from WhatsApp etc? Has it been beneficial, or not?
