- Over its 75-year history, millions of people have experienced moments of magic among the exotic trompe l'oeils, bedouin tent and magnificent night sky of Atlanta's fabulous Fox Theatre. A galaxy of stars - from Leontyne Price to Elvis Presley and from Rachmaninoff to Jeff Foxworthy - has played on its stage. Built in 1929, the Fox was nearly demolished in the '70s, but was saved to become premiere entertainment center we have today.
Original air date: 2004. Want more History? Check out our website at www.gpb.org/te...
Love the Fox, glad it was saved because it really is one of the last great buildings in Atlanta, the History is amazing!
San Francisco, lost its Fox in 1963...one of the most elegant of the "hard top" movie palaces. Was demolished in 1963, in spite of a valent effort to save the Fox. Its "voice" was one of four 4/36 Wurlitzer Organs. Many of us native San Franciscans still miss this treasure! The late George Wright gave four mid-night concerts on that magnificent organ...These filled the 3,500 seats! A huge monolith structure marks the spot...looks like a tombstone!
I have a coffee mug that is imprinted with 'Save the Fox's on it.
PLEASE REMASTER!!! Madea will pay for it!!!
