How are running empty buses giving any useful data. You’re running the EV without any load, not stopping and loading, unloading passengers. No real world driving experience, and are you using the EV on a mix of short and long trips.
They had a electric school bus fire in Huntsville Ontario yesterday morning going to the school. The driver said there was a problem and he pulled over and stepped. One student smelled smoke. Every one got out and it went up in flames
@MichaelOKeefe2009 The other electric bus fire happened in Quebec after the driver dropped off the last kid after school. I don't know if these busses belong to the Lions bus company in the states that build them
@@disneyfan9099def not better to drive, the ev busses are supposedly slower than the diesel ones. Also not likely to last longer, properly maintained diesel busses last a really long time. Most states or even the individual districts have rules that cap how long they keep busses anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.
2 EV school busses have caught fire here in Canada in the last week , luckily kids were evacuated successfully. They are manufactured by Lion Electric out of Quebec.
And parts are made in China and apparently Lion bus is on the verge of bankruptcy. They are not Electric buses, they are Battery buses. And they are almost 3 times the cost of a diesel or Propane bus and still need a diesel fired heater to supply heat and hydraulic brakes. These cordless buses are NOT the answer
There have been at least 2 and possibly 3 EV school bus fires. Being monitored by fire officials they has stated, it's not a question of if a fire occurs but when and if it kills children. So far the incidents were on empty electric busses. There were also some mass transit EV busses that also caught fire.
They should have went with Natural Gas. My district bought a whole fleet of CNG Bluebirds about 8 years ago, they’re very happy with the fleet and budgetary savings.
Electric school buses are a joke. No range particularly in cold areas. Can you imagine your kids being frozen or incinerated out in the country because the bus ran out of charge and the batteries blew up? All this and 5 times the cost.
The fact that anyone's actually surprised or shocked that this was going to go in the toilet this quick is amazing electric vehicles have not been doing very good their biggest drawback is the fact that they can only store so much energy we don't have the technology and batteries yet on top of that the huge weight difference is on most the items it would be one thing if these were hybrids but they're not we should never have been trying to make things all electric in the first place all that makes it is controllable as you can clearly see they can't charge them like they would like because that has to be controlled to keep the grid from failing
Actually, no. Diesel buses ran into the issues of DPF and DEF problems, with sensors malfunctioning constantly, bringing buses to their knees. Where I'm from, all the bus companies said to hell with diesel, and switched back to gasoline powered buses. Way fewer problems, far greater uptime. Sure, gas buses use a bit more fuel than diesel engined buses do, but cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, and right now, gas is cheaper than diesel by far. Plus, they can have juice brakes instead of air brakes, so less qualifications that the drivers need to pass. I'm a diesel guy at heart, but when you put dollars to dogshit, going back to gasoline engines to get away from all the horse$#!t, seems like a no-brainer.
If charging these buses cost just as much as gas then it’s a waste of time. The only way to make it work is to install solar panels, windmills alternative electric.
Electric power stamped on the bus with green lettering is extremely deceptive. Electric MAY be the future but it is not feasible right now. As a heavy truck tech myself very few of us in the field are familiar with this new tech and I seriously doubt any heavy training is be done so we as techs can service these busses when things go wrong. Cost of new tools probably is forced onto the tech, the school district isn’t going to pay for it I promise you that 😂
Anaheim California has a fleet of electric city bus, ive ridden on one, I took it from our hotel to Disneyland, I was impressed how it drove, they never had fire.
So they haven’t made the switch from paper to electronic charts, the maintenance shop is outdated and in disrepair and they can’t afford to hire drivers. So…..what’s to stop them from pissing away the next 10 year’s budget on a bunch of unproven and ‘fragile’ electric busses? This emission free transportation wetdream sounds like something we can’t afford. But we must soldier onward if we are to achieve the next goal; emission free Bullet Trains!
Who doesn’t love a yellow school bus, right? Can you raise your hand if you love a yellow school bus, right? Just - there’s something about the - and - and most of us, many of us went to school on the yellow school bus, right?
Ok so they locked into a bad contract. Have poor maintenance facilities, not enough drivers and old paper systems. How are ANY of these issues related to the busses being electric? Sound more like incompetent management using electric as a scapegoat or distraction.
Yeah total incompetence is the issue. If you take one of those electric busses and compare to one diesel the electric prob would win in every single way. Mismanagement already had ruined the district. Also if the charger company isn’t fulfilling their terms regarding vehicle to grid they should be sued for breech of contract. Also ppl traditional fueled busses catch fire too and they have the same exits as this so saying “it’s a death trap” is bull. I own pure ev, plug in ev and a gas truck for hauling rarely. They all have a place for now. No one needs to get their panties in a wad lol
So ev buses cost the same to operate as diesel buses but are infinitely cleaner? Not ideal, but certainly not a loss. Most of this report was about all the other problems in the system but the actual buses. The buses are almost a highlight considering all the other disfunction.
So let me ask you this- If the district was to return to an all diesel fleet would all the nay-sayers then be pleased? Because it sounds as if it is a district shortcoming NOT an electric bus shortcoming. By the way-The district better fix the problems as all petro powered busses will be banned in just a few years. ZERO emissions vehicles are powered by electric OR hydrogen (which is used to generate electricity) Take your pick. The world is not going back to petro. Get over it. !
Actually, most of EV owners are going back to petrol. Some cities and places banning them for being fire hazards, like boats, and underground parking lots. Hydrogen is even a bigger joke than pure electric, you can't fill'em up, as there are near to zero hydrogen stations, and even if you find one, the nozzle usually freezes to your car during filling, preventing you to take it off. You can't install solar panels to make hydrogen fuel at home either, like you can do with EVs. Get over it :)
Who doesn’t love a yellow school bus, right? Can you raise your hand if you love a yellow school bus, right? Just - there’s something about the - and - and most of us, many of us went to school on the yellow school bus, right?
What a joke, Somebody got a kickback on this one.
Not counting any electric bus issues, it sounds like the bus system is dysfunctional. 35% of routes are empty is ridiculous.
I'd use stronger words than that. Just why are they running empty busses?
How are running empty buses giving any useful data. You’re running the EV without any load, not stopping and loading, unloading passengers. No real world driving experience, and are you using the EV on a mix of short and long trips.

Pathetic
I'm glad they got out safely.
SCRAAAAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what electric school buses are.
Not really
And It's a waste of money.
@MichaelOKeefe2009 The other electric bus fire happened in Quebec after the driver dropped off the last kid after school. I don't know if these busses belong to the Lions bus company in the states that build them
Scrap and would be a waste of money if anything just use them as a battery backup storage forget trying to drive them
Montgomery County is wasting millions of dollars on these stupid buses!! 😢😢
The wealthiest county in Maryland. The most liberal county in Maryland. You get what you vote for they made their bed now they can lay in it.
electric fire trucks , electric stupidity everywhere
No savings? Then what’s the point of going electric?
Better to drive and they are supposed to last somewhat longer
@@disneyfan9099 Nope. Not even that.
Those who think B-EVs at scale are the future: we have some data at fleet scale now, and you're getting screwed.
We are to be good stewards of the environment

That bus company hosed that school district! They’re leasing the buses with all benefits going to the company!
waste of taxpayer money.
Standard government contract. Long on promises and far short on meeting them.
wait.... @3:04 "inability to charge all electric buses during the mid-day layover?" LOL. This is a joke, right?
What should happen? Is you get one bus and you use it and then you evaluate then you make a decision.

Bahahahahhaa… what a scam!
And all of this comes as a huge surprise to exactly whom?
I have seen buses catch on fire in Chinese dash cam videos. A few of the passengers get out in time.
Diesel buses worked fine. Electric buses don't. Where did the wisdom to wait and see it something works before jumping in go.

EV'S SUCK!!!
I'm glad you find it useless.

These are just rolling fire traps for all kids that ride them, sue the school boards
Company i work for bought a small amount of electric school buses. The little green lights in front went from green to yellow😅
yeah how about the fires ? is that not important ?
There are woke ev buses.
All the schools had to do was ask me ! When the democrats are involved it’s a CF Don’t forget the 10% for the big guy on top of the other cost!
It worked so well the first time around they probably placed there second order to the bankrupt school bus maker ,
